I had the Davrin/Harding situation spoiled unfortunately. Everything else was still a surprise like the nonsensical Varric twist I didn't see coming because it was so dumb, I guess. The whole unearned regret melodrama actually made me almost laugh and not cry.
I sacrificed Davrin, didn't know Assan would also die. Still don't regret it. Davrin has an expiration date as a warden and Harding just got together with Taash and has a possibly happy future. Also Davrin was all about the heroic sacrifice. Sucks about his boy but as much as I love animals I don't rate them higher than a human life unless that human is a terrible person.
Nobody else died, Strife was hurt but apparently survived. I already forgot who I assigned to what exactly. Neve did the wards?? (which looked like it would fail for a moment but it went fine after all), sent Taash to fight the juggernaut, I believe. Lucanis I sent as a mage killer to do his name justice.
What confuses me is that Bellara got kidnapped but internet says the person assigned to the wards gets taken. So now I'm confused. Unless I'm confusing two different situations. In any case, very glad I didn't miss out on the Neve romance scene. I assume because she can be taken you get another "I love you" moment later in case she wasn't around for the final lighthouse night. Having that moment twice is super weird though. Man, I would have been so pissed off if I screwed that up unknowingly. The Neve romance was the only thing besides Solas I thought was we'll written.
Talked Solas down with the help of ghost Mythal. My Lavellan romanced Solas but Rook told her to walk away and not try to fix this broken mass murderer and go down with him. So he went alone.
The ending was mostly a shrug for me. The least emotional BioWare game for me, no wait, I think that was Andromeda. I don't know if it's my dislike for the writing in general or how forced all the emotions feel. Way too melodramatic.
So no crying, I was also never into the Solas romance but will watch it play out on YT, I guess. I also want to reload the last save and trick Solas just to see his face.
I'm glad we did get an ending to the elven business, I hate unfinished stories, so now I can put this franchise and BioWare as a studio behind me, but can't say I'm satisfied with it. No vengeful Mythal, barely any relevance of her or Morrigan was a major disappointment for me. They are both my favorite characters and the game did nothing much with them. Everything about the storytelling of the actual main plot feels way too rushed while the game spent an eternity on mind numbing companion fluff. Terrible balancing.
The endgame did in no way make up for the rest of the game. Even SkillUp claimed the final few hours were strong. I thought they were well executed but absolutely not worth the other 90 or so hours it took me to get there.

Harding just got together with Taash and has a possibly happy future. I was kind of sad about that when Harding died in my playthrough, but then Taash also died later I also want to reload the last save and trick Solas just to see his face I prefer the trick ending over the redeem ending, haven't tried fighting Solas yet

I prefer the trick ending over the redeem ending, haven't tried fighting Solas yet I watched it just now and I agree! That is the arrogant bastard I enjoyed. He really WAS just like the other evanuris in the end. I'm pleasantly surprised the game didn't totally whitewash him. He remained a trickster until the very last moment. He was NOT doing anything to save the world after all. He was going to bring the veil down same as before and used Rook like a pawn. That's my favorite part and best twist of the game to me. DAV twisted so many reoccurring characters into shells of theie former selves but Solas was still Solas, arrogant prick as ever. He did not deserve a happy ending with Lavellan imo.

Just finished the game. Loved the redeem ending with Mythal letting Solas go. Very moving conclusion to his arc. One of my favorite parts of the game.
Unfortunately I was spoiled about Varric part way through my playthrough, so that didn’t make as much of an impact.
Harding made the sacrifice. Davrin was one of my main team members and tank throughout the game, so I didn’t want to send him. Also happy not to see Assan die.

I like Harding, but I don't think I'll be able to sacrifice Davrin more than once. I'm allergic to baby griffon deaths, so unless I'm romancing her it probably won't happen again. Poor Taash, I'll have to romance someone with them to compensate.
I knew about Varric well ahead of time, since I'm a person who likes spoilers. Knowing beforehand didn't stop it from being an emotional gut punch, at least for me.
Because I'm a completionist, all the factions were at three stars by the end and no one else died. Even with choosing Minrathous, I still got the Antivan Crows there at the end. I haven't tried choosing Treviso yet, but that will be in my new playthrough.
As for Solas, so far I've tricked him in one ending, redeemed him in the other. Honestly, tricking him is more satisfying to me. He richly deserved it at that point, so many times over.

I went back and tried all the endings with my original Rook (except the solo redeem, obviously). I agree, Trick is the most satisfying ending in theory. However, my warden was not smart enough to have earned it, so I mostly got annoyed at Solas being stupid enough to fall for it. My current Rook, however, I’m going to enjoy him getting to trick the Dreadwolf himself, considering he’s a disillusioned Elf, tired of Gods behaving like bullies.

It’s so hard to piece together one’s feelings about this game, after so long, and with so many ways I envisioned this game to be. But I think I’ve strung together a question that slowly cracks into my feelings on the game. So… the lore - specifically, the Trespasser related lore.
This game has been built up for 3 games, with the last piece of media garnering so much intrigue, it left the fandom creating theories 10 years later. However, with The Veilguard, most revelations were revealed in exposition, and even then, there was no real explanation for the who’s or the why’s and the how’s. This happened mostly within the mural scenes. While I loved them and found them to be the strongest part of this game, barely any of what’s in the murals are touched upon outside the meetings - except for Harding. And when we follow Harding on her little Titan adventure, we still don’t really get answers!
The entire conversation with Solas at the end of Trespasser. WHY DOES OUR WORLD HAVE TO DIE FOR THE ELVES TO BE RESTORED? That’s never answered! Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain decide to create a red lyrium dagger since we have the blue one…. OH, OKAY, SURE? I definitely know what the blue dagger is, too. And how it became uncorrupted from The Red Lyrium idol. Sure.
Would have also been neat to get some answers on the nature of the Titans for obvious reasons. Mythal called them monsters, yet the dwarves reverred her? Guess we’re losing that plot point.
Not that I don’t think BioWare wanted to go all in with the lore. They had to catch new players up, and pretty much spent and entire act doing so. Players can’t be bombarded with these concepts early on. And if it’s not early on, chances are it won’t be a huge focus and it’ll end up getting cut. Such is video game development. Still love the game. Hoping for a DLC or two, I think the game needs it.

From what I've vaguely gathered (after like 50 hours, I stopped reading codices..) before the veil, spirit could embodies themselves using lyrium. Spirit would turn themselves into elves. (but cole showed they could also mimic humans) .In Trespasser I believe it's hinted via the Forbidden ones they could leave form and take form (also see Mythal dead went back to a spirit/wisp). Post Veil elves don't work that way anymore. They aren't spirit. They aren't immortal and ubber magical. So if you'd bring that back, one the whole catastrophe of the veil ripping would kill a lot of people and then the "new" elves would end up top of the food chain again.
But yes you don't really have that talk with Solas, or current elves and what would happen to them? But I'd say the ancient elves and current elves are almost difference species.

That's a reaction I normally have to close relatives dying, not fictional characters! One of the best Dragon Age characters, for sure, and I'll certainly miss Brian Bloom's beautiful narration if and when there's another game. (Maybe they should treat him like Duncan in DAO and just have Varric do it from beyond the grave ...)

With each playthrough I complete, my thought is Inq would have been a better choice filling the role Varric has in the game. The whole thing was weird. Sure, Solas was using blood magic to make Rook think Varric was alive, but wouldn't Rook have brought him up in normal/ambient dialogue around the Lighthouse occasionally, to which other companions would have been like, "Huh???". "Hey, did you guys make sure Varric got some of today's dinner?", etc. Someone else in this thread mentioned how neither Neve nor Harding sit down and discuss his death either. It was quite immersion-breaking for me.
