Lovers: Tell me something you hated about it. Even if it's small, rant about it as much as you like. Haters: Tell me one thing (or more if you feel so inclined) that you liked about the Veilguard. Not allowed to be sarcastic My idea for this thread is to find common ground. At the end of the day, we are all on this board because we're fans of Dragon Age. It seems to be a 50/50 on this game but it's 100% true we're only here on an obscure forum because we're fans. I can't stop you from posting in bad faith but I hope you don't?

I am a hater. I actually compiled a list of things I liked as I played the game. - I didn't mind new artstyle, liked it fine.
- Gorgeous environment appearance.
- Good CC, needed eye presets, more hair, bigger butts and breasts, but good nonetheless
- Gave you an item to interact with the environment even if the respective party member isn’t with you so you don't feel like you have to constantly swap characters to keep moving forward.
- After BG3, I was actually relieved that there was no inventory management.
- If banter gets interrupted due to combat it restarts the banter afterwards.
- Camera panouts to help us see -the pretty thing- and to introduce a village/city.
- One tiny bug in 82 hours on PS5 that was fixed with a simple reload.
- Can change difficulty anytime.
- Named saves
- Autosave being right before a decision for us repeaters
- Easy to use photo mode
- Transmog so I could keep the cool looking armor appearance without losing specs
- Casual outfits continuing from Inquisition so I don't have to wear plate armor for a makeout scene
- Prompty for equipping the loot when you get it
- Considering all of the AOE attacks, I can see and accept why they made the companions immortal. If they don't have the skills to program AI to avoid the AOE, I'd rather they do this.
I would say Quality of Life considerations regarding interacting with the reality of this being a game was on the forefront of someone's mind for most of these. More story related- I thought Taash was hilarious in banter with Lucanis.
- That stormrider was a good dragon fight. Even in Keeper mode I was on the edge, spamming Taash’s invulnerability. The dragon moved a lot, taking advantage of the environment.
- If you get close to the edge, your character will actually get close to the edge, and then act like they’re going to fall off, and then wiggle waggle. That amused me.
- Can pet animals and feel the cat purr through your controller.
- Reactivity to a Grey Warden Rook was acceptable to good.
- I liked the two times I could choose to say nothing as Rook.
- I like that we get missives even if I didn't like the content of the missives.
- I was impressed that the crows would try to organize a defense against the dragon despite the fact that their assassin skills are not remotely appropriate for this type of defense. I’m moved that their love for Treviso is so great that they would risk their lives protecting it.
- Manfred won two-out-of-three on rock-paper-scissors.
- I liked Assan and that I could choose the fate of the Griffons.
- Chance Candide is too conspicuous, enough said.
- I ultimately consider the story consequences of the Minrathous/Treviso choice weak, but initially what the Shadow Dragon hideout and the streets outside looked like was a shadow punch of darkness to the gut.
- If i remove the grief of never getting to see Weishaupt at it's full strength, yes, the entire Weishaupt sequence was great.
- Viscount Aveline sounds badass
- the Delamorte Mansion and getting there being pretty
- Wardens and the hidden flower meadow was pretty. Should have been where the romance scenes happened
- I liked that Emmrich becoming a lich vs manfred WAS a decision.
- It's always going to be sad for someone to fear death as they die, so points for the Cyrion death scene
- Ghila'nain stabbing things as an octopus and being an almost omniscient blighted cloud was cool things for the bad guy to have as skills. She was scarier than Elgy.
- The Butcher was a good antaganist for the 5 minutes we knew him.
- Solas's trick to swap with Rook was clever and quite in line with him being a Trickster.
- I liked Harding's death, felt it fit her arc.
- I could be rude to the inquisitor upon initial meeting.
- The room of the dead in the final sequence was meaningful even without any of the named companions being there for me.
- I got to cuss at Solas and pick an ending that made sure he was miserable while also seeing him recognize he was a loser.

They removed all the rams, wolves, and random wildlife that attacks or gets in your way? I guess that's the only thing I really liked.
I would say I liked the environment but... In Inquisition I spent a lot of time walking around, exploring, or just looking at the scenery. In Veilguard...I don't know...it's beautiful but if you really look at it, the places where you can go are very few and after a while it's...repetitive.

I wouldn't say I'm a 'lover' but I am enjoying the game and having fun. One thing I hate: the Varric recaps, which are also spoilery. I'm glad I can skip them; wish I had in my first run.

I had the same issue with some of the journal entries in Witcher 3. Since they were all written by 'future Dandelion' he had a tendency to say things the player shouldn't/couldn't know at the time. I've seen the same with some of the codex entries in this game - comments on entries from companions not recruited yet.

Like the game, but I dislike the way Rook constantly says someones name when they are sharing emotions. For example with Taash. "Oh Taash" like Taash Is a child, bugs me.
Dislike/hate that companions are Invulnerable and you get a majority of the aggro. Playing ranged can be Infuriating at times.
Dislike the Venatori as enemies and seeming endless. Like what Is the command structure etc? Same goes for the Antaam.
Will probably remember more annoyances later.

Dislike the Venatori as enemies and seeming endless. Oh ya, the amount of Venatori Rook kills is like a third of the population of Minrathous because they made those fights respawn.

Environment and especially vista type of shots look great. Also, shoot me - I actually like the 'run down the tunnel' DA2 and DAO map types. I liked the way Inquisition looked too, but it drove me bananas that I had to run 50 times around some giant hill to locate an obscure path to the top that looks almost identical to the rest of the unclaimable hillside, just so I could reach a shard.

I despise this game, but I will say that it runs pretty well. In an age of developers putting out broken games at launch - looking at you, CD ProjektRed - Veilguard’s technical performance is excellent.

Not allowed to be sarcastic I will never forgive you for this. The environmental art is insanely good, even the damned rubble looks great. It's crazy how detailed and gorgeous the visuals are in the game. The lighting is excellent and the art really shines in Arlathan and Rivain. The reactivity in your background and class choice(if mage, so far) is something that stands out in a very positive way. It allows me to very briefly forget about the other aspects of the game that I do not like. The mage combat is actually enjoyable in comparison to Inquisition, in particular, Spellblade. It reminds me of Knight Enchanter and feels fun to play. Meeting Davrin was a much needed panacea when playing the game. It's a really great moment when he questions why we're taking anything Solas says seriously and why we're carrying on with an Abomination. In general, he's a good companion. Neve is also an adult who's easy to take seriously and has a cynical and sharp sense of humor. Those two and Emmrich are clearly superior to the rest of the cast.

I like the game overall, but I weep for what they did with the Inquisitor. So much wasted potential. This is why she was left behind in Trespasser? So she could... battle darkspawn in codex entries? Really?

I am a lover, can't deny that. Over 200 hours in and still playing.
What I don't like about the game and would personally take points off the game's score are mostly technical issues - subpar face animations, subpar voice acting (except Emmerich and both female Rook), repetitive puzzles, teleporting back after falling, teleporting off water and lack of loadout saving.
The aforementioned issues are shortcomings, or shortcuts (due to rushed development), or perhaps oversights. Some of them can be patched, so there is that.
There are other aspects of the game which don't particularly please me too much, but they are there by design, they are intentional, they are what the game is supposed to be like, and I don't think they are necessarily worth taking points from the game (it would be like taking a point off the Pyramid of Giza because of its square base). These are: the over-sanitized presentation, every society in North Thedas being all-inclusive (contrary to what we have been told), limited player agency, not able to dismiss companions, no dual wield warrior Rook (despite Taash), shallow romances, complete lack of humor/dark humor, and most conversations feeling like a therapy session.

Really? Ya, that was rough. I've never actually argued for a previous protagonist to come back but Rook was so... Rook. And everything felt like the Inquisitor could have easily been the protagonist- Varric's death, Solas being one of the antagonists. I also was heavily in favor of them being at least an Advisor role. And then the Inqy blanket forgive Solas for everything, by association making 1 of 3 imported choices void. (vow to stop vs redeem, they're all redeem endings)

I like it more than I don't, but the lack of dialogue with companions outside cutscenes bugs me. Also, smooches. Let me make out with my LI after a mission, dammit.
Just how easy it was to drown also really got old after a while.
I didn't care for the amount of jumping required in certain parts, though that could just be me and my bad timing/reflexes.
Not being able to get a griffon as a Grey Warden is also bullshit. (Rook saved them all, why can't she get one??)
I'm sad that I couldn't have an Inquisitor who actively hated Solas, considering you can punch him in DAI/completely shut him down in Trespasser. Let my Adaar talk about how much he sucks, dammit.
While I love the exploration features of the companions, I'm a little sad that there aren't class-based features in the same way anymore. I need to pick all the locks.
I don't have the need to play an evil asshole like some do (more power to you, it's just not what I like), but let me be rougher around the edges. The potential snark was toned down from before.
