Carver Hawke. Brother of a famous woman (or man). Son of a mysterious man. Maybe a Grey Warden, at times a Templar. Sometimes also dead. But always misunderstood.

BEST BABY BRO.
Carver's one of my favorite characters in the franchise. From the moment he turned his grumpy little face on me, I loved him. I remember the original Carver thread on the BSN - it's loooooong buried, but I had a ton of fun lurking there. I love how he sticks up for Hawke even when he's wrestling with his own issues and feelings of resentment, I love his adorable crush on Merrill, I love how he grows as a person when he's out of Hawke's shadow. He really comes into his own and I'm ridiculously proud of him.
It helps that Lukas Kristjanson wrote him. He's written several of my favorite characters.
Seriously, read this shit from before the game came out. It's HILARIOUS.

Yep I've became a Lukas Kristjanson fan through the years.(Carver , Aveline , Arishok , Sera I really liked them) Love Carver , loved the fact he's whiny and he's so over "Hawke" , I replayed DA2 a bit recently and there's a letter Carver get from a girl he knew in Lothering , and she goes on and on how she loves Hawke .Ah , ah.

His sense of inadequacy, his pretty obvious inferiority complex and inherent insecurity . Even his childish selfishness. I just couldn't help but root for him to find himself. And he reminded me a bit of Alistair at the beginning but without the wit and self-deprecating humor to mask it all. I love how Carver is the only character whose growth we can actually witness. I find the others in DA2 too set in their own persona already, and while Hawke can have an impact on their opinions, they are who they are and the change is slight, IMO. by Berserker79

Carver is my favorite of the siblings. I love the way he and Hawke banter and the relationship between them. I've made him both a Templar and a Warden, and I really like both versions.... although that comic above is really making me wish Carver had been in DAI! Although we are probably lucky he didn't, not sure I could have chosen between them like that, lol. I think I would have just thrown my Inquisitor at the demon at that point.

The little brother I never had! Thanks for making this thread! Carver is one of my favorite DA2 characters. I drag him along at every possible opportunity and have a really hard time playing without him in the game. (Sorry Bethany...) Okay, this would be the 3th thread, what I wanted to create. You overtook me. Thank you! Your reward: Just a suggestion, but you might want to hide this behind a spoiler tag since this thread is in the DA2 section, not DAI?

I'm sf glad there is a thread for the best character of DA my baby brother!
I have yet to finish a non-mage Hawke because there is no Carver, there is no point. He just makes the game better for me.

I played a warrior Hawke first but after meeting Carver I did a speedrun to make a mage Hawke and take Carver with me. I have nothing against Bethany, I like her actually, but I just felt Carver added more to the game for me. by Minttu

My fem Hawke being friends, instead of rivals, with Carver made being mean to mages in Act 1 worth it. The Legacy DLC made me cry.
Heck, the above comic about the Fade choice made me nearly choke up. I love my baby brother.
Bethany was super bland. But I've considered that maybe I just didn't give her a chance like I gave Carver. :/

I think the highest I've gotten him is to warm neutral? And that's also with the help of Legacy. The Carver/Hawke feels in that dlc are one of the reasons I love it. Link

LinkIt was my 2nd run through and I was doing all the things I hadn't done before. Be a mage; rival my lover, Anders. Be Fenris' friend. Then I noticed doing all that that would make Carver my friend. It also happened to require? Being pro circle. I didn't kill mages but I sent them packing to the circle every chance. Except Emille; that was because I disliked Meredith so much at that point and also didn't need to rack up any more points. My first play through, I dumped my sister for Anders as soon As I found him, so I have like...20 minutes of Bethany experience and my impression was pretty bland. Anyway, he was 20 points short of the max by legacy and all full up at the end of that expansion. Act 3, so Leandra's ghost/memory talked with me and I cried.

Yes, I like Leandra's scene, its very nice. But I like Carver's scene too, after the Legacy. If you can collect all traces of their father, then Carver is reconciled even in rival, if it fails, Carver will still jealous. (I see Bethany boring it did the dlc-s with her.) (I never sent in the Circle that poor mages! Maybe I can't rival with Anders...)

(Always rival... not 100%, but ~75-80) For starters, don’t bring him if you’re going to help mages over templars -- an exception to this is when dealing with Kerran. You can chose to let him go without penalty. However, Carver likes it when you help templars/are pro-Circle, so bring him along for that if you take those paths. Also, in Legacy, chose the Diplomatic or Blue speech choices when in conversation with him -- he likes those and in the last conversation (after finding Malcolm's will) it will earn you +15 friendship points. Also, side with Larius if Carver is a Warden. (Haven't had him as a templar yet, so I can't speak for that.) There are also many other little gains in other quests, some of which I found recently, so I’m sure there’s more. I can give you a little list here of what friend points I know of, if you like? (I can’t think of it all right now.)

If you're digging for a certain outcome, one should focus on the Hawke sibling and Isabella in the first act. You have the rest of the game and some DLCs for everyone else. For example, after dragging Merrill and Anders to all my "being mean to mages" missions in Act 1, I find out that in Act 2 or 3 there are some magic books you can destroy and gain up to 50 rival points. Fifty! I didn't have to be mean to mages to rival her, all I had to do was destroy the evil vibe books! I could have dragged Isabella places instead of her; so second game, that pirate again runs away with the Koslun book. I have never had an Act 3 Isabella. I just got too focused on the idea I should get him all maxed by end of act 1, but it's impossible to get ALL of them maxed. Ah well. I've learned well enough on that point for play through 3. Vex, the Dexter like murderer who doesn't even care that Carver dies.... Which I guess I shouldn't mention that on the Carver love thread hahaha

Carver lover here, just wanted to say hi. Thanks DarkSnow for starting this. I love the pics (especially Spirit's) and stuff so far. I am looking forward to another DA2 run now that I am on PC (already in progress) and can change approval via open console (already changed). Of course it also helps I am using zpliam's face mod on Nexus for Carver which, while it doesn't thankfully change him too much, it does give him a very nice five o'clock shadow. I know it's cheating, but I don't care I want to see a full run with "friend" Carver to see if Act I is any different. Are their subsequent meet-ups different or preset. How deep is BioWare's game? This inquiring mind wants to know, has to know. But...then your Hawke can be whoever they want to be! hahaha

Now that I think about it, I'm fairly certain I've gotten him farther into Friend zone than just warm neutral, with help from Legacy... It's been a while so I'd have to check. But we always end on a positive note(And I'm happy you liked the pic. ) Anyway, this isn't cheating. It's totally for science! Yes. My canon Carver doesn't look like the default, but what man doesn't look handsome with stubble?
