Carver loves the fair game! Sorry, it maybe because I am getting old, but what did Carver say?

Ah, Okay. Good to know thanks.
Also a heads-up too..
I generally do it once I meet everyone in Act 3.
Lilly, Al/Tegean, de launches etc.
Their dialogue changes if you met them prior to MOA. ---------------------
Carver does have slightly; different dialogue towards a female Hawke over a male Hawke.
Sides, while Carver can be a bit of a dick, I actually prefer him to Bethany.
I always make Carver a Grey Warden. To me it seems as though that was what he was meant to be.
Thanks, but for some odd reason none of the dlc is working for me, despite Origin and the game saying they are installed. So I will miss out on MotA, and Legacy. As for Carver and Bethany. Although he was initially a dick Carver is more upbeat than Bethany. Bethany came off as sad. Not in a pathetic way but in a depressing way. Especially once she became a Warden. Carver in my game was taken by the Warden's but I have not seen him since. I remember first seeing Bethany as a Warden when the Qunari attack. I am currently in act II so the Qunari will attack soon.

I can help!
Let us start with the simple:
Check and make sure you are login and are online.
Be sure your game is up to date -patches etc. Run a repair if need be.
IF none of that fixes the issue, let me know,
-------------------------------------------
But yeah that is the reason I prefer Carver over Bethany.
Bethany just seems -as you put it- depressed. Carver while he can be a dick, he can be funny and more happy.

Thanks for the tips. I've reinstalled the game a month ago, and it installed all dlc. It's even listed as installed in the game itself. Origin is always online for me. I did not know I could go offline. I bought the dlc's when I first bought the game a year ago and I've never been able to use them and I don't know why? Since this is my second time through the game I am using mods could that be the cause? Also when I first played DA2, I only had one mod installed and it was to clean up some of the companions hands.

No.
Unlike Inquisition MODs, do not affect DLCs. I have close to 100 DA2 MODs and not one has affected the DLCs in any way.
Well how about this for confusion. There are actually two Origin online things. One: to be online with Origin and another to allow Origin to run in game. Steam has the same thing. But, alas I won't go farther then that.
OK.
While I could sit here and give you instructions on what to try etc. It would be not fair to take over this thread to do so.
I strongly advise you to contact E.A. to solve the issue.
Be sure to contact them through live chat to get the best help. E-mail is useless.
Good Luck!
Oh and to get back on topic....
Go Carver!

I like the scene in Act 1 where Carver starts laying into Hawke, saying you're to blame for Bethany's death. If you agree with him he's totally blindsided - he was clearly just being an arse for the sake of being an arse and didn't expect you to say that!

Made once PT as wanted to know how much friendship I can get from Carver in the game, incl 2 DLCs. So: - I made him a GW; - I consulted the internet almost every 5 minutes to learn in which quests I could het his approval; - consulted the internet to learn what exactly to say to get higher approval from Carver; - took him to missions where I could get max approval even if Carver didn't suit that mission at all as he just died during the battle.
In general, incl the whole game with all DLCs I could get about 75-80 % approval from Carver. Don't know whether you can get more but it was actually interesting to learn the results of other choices and dialogues.
Carver, as I have written elsewhere, is one of my favorite characters. I understand his reactions very well, his rival dialogues. I feel sorry for him because of what he feels. Tbh it even frustrates me a little that people just don't care about him, don't even try to understand his point of view, WHY he behaves like that. But in spite of his rival reactions he still loves his family, protects them; otherwise he could have just go to Denerim and become someone, betraying his family, but he restrained his huge desire "to be someone, to bring good to this world, to put his warrior abilities to good use", just to protect his family. Can you imagine the pressure he experienced? I can. And saying "it is aweful" is not the word suitable to describe those emotions, the state he was in. Carver made his own sacrafice, but some players just don't pay any attention to such things.
Anyway: GW Carver, even according to his letter, suits him greatly. And I always make him a GW. Plus I would like to have Carver not as a mage (mages are mot my thing, really don't like to play a mage). But the game decided to get rid of Carver if you are not a mage. Pitty.

If you agree with him he's totally blindsided - he was clearly just being an arse for the sake of being an arse and didn't expect you to say that! A little late to reply here, but I never knew about this!
It totally fits his character that he would be blindsided by Hawke saying this. For most of the game, he's so blinded by his resentment towards his older sibling that he never really stops to consider that they might blame themselves for the death of Bethany (and later their mother) and always be carrying that guilt around with them.
Same with a Warden Carver joking in his letter about it being Hawke's fault that he caught the Blight, not thinking that Hawke would blame themselves for this. Varric even indicates this to Cassandra, saying that if Hawke knew what would happen to their brother, they'd have never have brought Carver into the Deep Roads with the expedition.

likely based on an interview I once saw with the Phelps twins (the ones playing the Weasley twins in Harry Potter) who got asked the same dumb question
