While promotion grinding was fun in the beginning (at least for me and most people I remember playing with), soon it started to feel absolutely silly. Also it divides the community in such a way that even recommending builds became something impractical. In DAMP we never had a serious Youtuber coming up with builds for a reason: they don't really matter! Promoting is far more important and effective than builds. It feels like Bioware purposefully made everything in their power to fragment DAMP's community as thin as possible: Lack of dedicated servers, Region-locked matchmaking (Black Screen of Death for those who dared trespass it), one of the poorest if not the poorest netcoding in recent gaming, an extremely divisive loot progression, infinite power grinding via Promotions and 100-only Global Leaderboards. I hope by now they have learned their lesson.'t What if this was a big internal secret war between EA and Bioware? Like EA insisted that DAI have multiplayer and microtransactions, Bioware didn't envision multiplayer for DAI, so they made it as crappy as possible on purpose. It wasn't that bad, the key glitch broke the game and a lot of peeps quit. They couldn't make the money ME3's did after that to pump out a lot of dlc, which further lost even more players. The lesson to BW here is to not to let a game breaking glitch stand with no word of even acknowledging it's existence for over FOUR MONTHS - could have been longer, I can't remember.

Lots, Umbrella Corps, Alien Vs Predator - both awful games overall, I played at a friends house, don't judge me, lol. Assassin Creed Unity was garbage on release, I heard it got better but never reinstalled it - it was free on my xbox1 anyways, I didn't feel like I wasted my money, lol. There was some crappy Star Trek game that came out after the rebooted series that was garbage on release, never played that one myself though, I don't even know if it got any better. You probably never heard of it, but Defiance on the 360 was garbage on release and didn't really improve once they got it to quit crashing for literally days on end, I mostly just played it for so long because a lot of my me3 friends were playing it. The Tomb Raider reboot had dumb mp, that could probably just be my opinion though cuz I just tried it once and thought it was dumb and never played the mp aspect again, sp was great though. I'd say Battleborn is worse on the fact that on it's worst days, I flat out can't connect to a game because so few peeps play it, at least I can rock solo in Daimp. I could probably go on but I feel like I'm ranting now. Wow, I never realized that I hated so many games, wtf, lol.

That's a hilarious discussion. Still, why are we even having a promotion system again? It's like one of those ideas that someone thinks is great and insists on having in the game even though it gets pointed out that it's a terrible idea but they still insist and then put a cap on it to make it passable. It encourages people to play for longer than they may have otherwise, because they have a carrot dangling in front of their faces. It's *possible* to design these bonuses and balance the game around them; so that with max bonuses, your character is comparable in power to their ME3MP counterpart. This provides a natural progression towards Gold and Platinum difficulties without actually breaking balance, because it's factored in. Now, is Bioware clever enough to actually do that? Who knows. In response to the question that you pose at the end of your post: I'll give you a few clues: Clue 1: the crucible in mass effect 3 Clue 2: citadel child Clue 3: the nexus's need for water AND ice. Clue 4: mass effect 2. Equipped with these clues, i think we have the answer to your question

I saw that the bonus is 1% and capped at 10% total so, assuming that info is correct, it isn't really game breaking. It was on the MECoop reddit. Also saw a claim that the devs said that the prestige or whatever is essential to surviving a gold run. Which sounds like "9/10 platinum games won't have extractions" I think I failed maybe 3 platinum extractions in 100 tries. The 10% thing is a very recent piece of information. Up until then we had no idea of how it would be like. The closest thing he had to compare and make up some conjectures was DAMP model, in which stats are either capped at 80% or simply uncapped. 10%, or something like 10 promotions per class (assuming there are similarities with the previous models) sounds like a sensible number, attainable even for the casual masses. I think this is a smart decision from Bioware - and I don't openly say things like this about Bioware very often on the forums. As for "you need this and that to survive given difficulty", I still recall DAMP devs saying that you need to play as team to succeed even on the lowest difficulty and that soloing was pretty much impossible. A few months later, people like Proto were speed-soloing Heartbreaker. So yeah, the devs could not have been any wronger about their own game.

What if this was a big internal secret war between EA and Bioware? Like EA insisted that DAI have multiplayer and microtransactions, Bioware didn't envision multiplayer for DAI, so they made it as crappy as possible on purpose. Absurd as it may sound, DA:I was initially intended to be Multiplayer only. Shifting it back to a Campaign-oriented game and having Multiplayer as a side element might have been Bioware's smartest decision ever. God forbid DA:I was just DAIMP.

I don't openly suck Bioware's dick either, but this is something I won't grief too much. If base health is 500 and then you promote 10 times to get 550 (assuming its always calculated around base, and even if it stacks on the previous, you're really only getting up to like 800 and I think thats a far less likely way of them doing it) isn't enough that it breaks the game DAIMP style, nor is it insignificant enough to not even bother. Sometimes those few extra ticks of health make the difference.

While I sure have played worse games *cough Duke Nukem*, the combination of studio expectations, potential for something good and loving the DA universe made DAIMP probably my most negative MP experience since I quit playing COD during MW3 after my breaking 2nd controller and 2nd headset during that game.

"Lets intentionally make our game shit and have a huge part that is received incredibly negatively by our diehard fanbase and casuals that will taint their experience with our game" I sure hope that wasn't the decision making.

To clarify on this: Fernando Melo DiscoBabaloo there is a cap (lvl 10) for bonus stats Pearl @fatherofpearl1 DiscoBabaloo Is it 1% gain per level? 0.1? 10? Sounds good so far but it depends on the gains per level. Fernando Melo DiscoBabaloo@fatherofpearl1 depends on the stat This is not what I was hoping to hear, but hopefully it's minuscule gains per level across the board.

Yikes, that does leave a lot of room for error. And while it is negative and cynical to look at it that way, its also relatively accurate way to approach this sort of thing. I'm hoping its minimal enough that it isn't critical to do, but at least gives you a small enough reward to be worthwhile. I'd honestly prefer if they did it COD style-ish, where you open up another spec option for a class. So in ME3 you could have say 2 different Asari Vanguard builds so you could have your stasis/lift grenade sniper build, and your charge/claymore/lift grenade build.

I'm thankful we don't have obtainable "Godmode" in MEA:MP.
Edit: Well the Health buff looks to be +1%, so the Shield buff is gotta also be at +1%. Power recharge could also be at +1% due to (IIRC) the weight cap being on a -100%/+100% scale instead of a 200% cap. If the shield regen delay is the same as ME3MP which is 4 seconds base, but you have a fixed 3 second gate cooldown, I can see -1% decrease in regen delay, at -10% that would be a 3.60 second shield regen delay. The wild card is HP regen cap.

The key glitch was but one of at least half a dozen gamebreaking issues. Since it "wasn't that bad", name one game that had worse multiplayer. BF4 at launch. It took Dice quet some time to patch that mess. Edit. Granted, after they fixed it,game was awesome. But,I still remember pain, frustration, rage.

Also from the tweets there is no promotions. Just gotta play a variety of characters. Some can level one perk while others will level another.

So you just play them, no need to promote nor anything to acquire these bonuses? I assume things ought to be a bit more grindy than just playing a variety of characters. Playing a variety of characters is hardly a chore.

But yes, you can still reset character lvls for respeccing (there's also reset cards), but it's not tied into the prestige lvl mechanic. Your experience points with one char raise both it's lvl and the lvl of the associated prestige stat. Even after you reach lvl 20 as far as I understand it.
