Pretty sure even the physical copy is just a download code. Unless you're wanting to have a box to showcase on a shelf (which may be the case!), at the end of the day it's more or less the same end result.

Still don't understand why a digital copy costs as much as a physical copy. I suspect it is partly because the physical media is a trivial proportion of the production cost. But mainly because the retailers would be up in arms if digital prices undercut them. Keeping digital prices on parity (or even higher) keeps the retailers happy and digital profit margins high.

But mainly because the retailers would be up in arms if digital prices undercut them. Keeping digital prices on parity (or even higher) keeps the retailers happy and digital profit margins high. I think 3rd party distribution is part of the equation as well. I believe it is estimated that Steam and probably every other publisher takes a 20% cut to distribute digitally. Now EA could sell their games for less since it is their service, but then I think it could get into problems when they sell their games for less and others for more, it could even be a legal problem for them as well since they are making their product on their service look better then other products. As far as the prices being exactly the same I think it is because people have also accepted it, for if there wasn't a market for digital games they would have adjustments to attract people and lowering the cost is one option.

With digital, you have no materials costs, no retailer cost, and cheaper distribution costs (debatable). Which is why games on Steam are so steeply discounted so quickly. But gamers, especially console gamers, are accustomed to paying $60/game, so why drop that when you can make higher margins? When I wanted to buy the entire Mass Effect trilogy on PC (I already had it on Xbox 360), I was annoyed that all the DLC was still full price, costing about $100 CAD.

When I wanted to buy the entire Mass Effect trilogy on PC (I already had it on Xbox 360), I was annoyed that all the DLC was still full price, costing about $100 CAD. I wish I could find the article, but I once read that the cost for an optical disk to be created and shipped is not very high either because it is done in bulk, it is higher then digital, but not to the level people would think. Where the high costs are deal with people and salaries for the development of the game and marketing of the game. Wouldn't the amount you pay the service be considered a retailer cost? I know its a little more murky with EA and Origin since EA does own Origin, but as I mentioned above there could be reasons why EA doesn't just sell their games for 20% less compared to any other game on their store. I did a little Google searching and there was a 1948 case with the United States v. Paramount Pictures in where the studios owned their own theaters and had exclusive distribution rights to that and it was found to be an Anti-Trust case. Now EA has gotten around that by also using GOG for their older games, but I could see a problem if they started to give themselves a lower price compared to other games.

Wouldn't the amount you pay the service be considered a retailer cost? Depends how you look at it. It could be seen as either retailer cost or distribution cost, as it kind of combined the two. It's an old article (2010?), but kotaku posted a breakdown of where your $60 goes from a video game purchase. Less than half of it goes to the publisher, which has to cover the entire cost of development and marketing. The rest goes to retailer, platform and distribution. Surely digital cuts down significantly on that second group, which accounts for more than half. Obviously it varies game to game.

Not sure if this is the article you are referring to for it was a quick Google search. LinkThere could be some charges for that $4 does cover when dealing with digital distribution and I doubt it is exactly the same.

I've been looking for the same. I found it on Amazon, but other than that I can't find it anywhere at the moment. The GAME website is pretty vague, they seem to be only offering the one with the Nomad or a Die-Cast version exclusive to them or the normal game.
I imagine in store you can preorder the deluxe version like you can with most games. I'm just going to buy it from MS Store instead as I realized I have the 10% EA Access discount.
Hope this helps some.

I believe a dev tweeted that for PS4 there is no physical copy of the deluxe or above editions of the game for outside of the US. I assume that's the same for the Xbone too. Which makes me super sad because I have nothing to put in my steelcase now....
It's available to pre-order on Xbox live as a digital download but like thats it :/

I haven't been able to find a physical version in the UK so today I preordered the deluxe version digitally. Bit of a discount from EA Access, so wasn't too bad. So might have to go digital if you want the deluxe.

Was intending on getting the Deluxe Edition as I like to have everything available but i'm one of those weird people that likes having discs. Would be totally disappointed if there is no disc option for the Deluxe in the UK. I believe a dev tweeted that for PS4 there is no physical copy of the deluxe or above editions of the game for outside of the US. I assume that's the same for the Xbone too. Here's the tweet:
User: @bio_derek @russiancatsjen @gamblemike and for PS4? Is there a deluxe physical copy available in the future?
Derek French @lebkuchenbaer @gamblemike MEA PS4 Deluxe is available for pre-order only in North America. Digital after that and everywhere else.
Im sure it's the same for xbox.

I finally put in my preorder a week or so ago, when the obligatory 'mp is optional' tweet finally came out.
Now I just have to decide first playthrough. Normally I would say sisRyder, since I like how my girls look but my guys usually look like dorks.
However, with the weapon renaming, I'm strongly tempted to make a slightly crazy broRyder named Shaun, and give him an assault rifle named Happy Monday, a grenade launcher named Black Grape, and a sword named Ruthless Assassin.
