Eternal Frontier Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of things that look interesting. To boldly dive into more books. Humanity has avoided interstellar war for centuries.
It was a time of peace, prosperity, and exploration. But when an unexpected attack cripples a scientific vessel, the SRES Argo, it appears that time has come to an end.
Chief Medical Officer Tag Brewer is the ship’s only survivor. He is alone in the far reaches of space. To survive he must restore and protect the downed vessel from its unknown attackers on a planet as deadly as it is mysterious. He vows to do everything in his power to seek justice for his fallen crew.
When Tag uncovers a sinister secret about those who attacked the Argo, he realizes far more is at stake than just his survival. Something more powerful, more technologically advanced, and more ruthless has emerged from the darkest voids of the galaxy. It’s up to Tag to survive long enough to warn humanity and stop the dawn of a new war.

Just finished this: Am now reading this: 'Inversions' is my favorite Iain M Banks novel. I hope you enjoy it. ...Or I'd feel foolish It was very good, I was able to figure out a few things ahead of time but was surprised by one set of events at the end of the book. As with most books I read I am usually sad that the book ends. (But I get over it as soon as I start a new book.)

I started reading them based on Jordan Peterson's recommendation. I'd read 1984 in high school, but I didn't appreciate it then like I am now. It's kinda funny (and sad), isn't it - because for me it was the same. Usually the books I was forced to read I couldn't really connect to. When I came back to them later I suddenly realized that they were not boring or stupid at all. We never read 1984 in class, though, but "All Quiet on the Western Front" and I remember hating that book. I think one reason for that was that I am a very fast reader and we usually had to read aloud in class and it was just a bore for me to listen to someone read a few sentences while I had finished the whole page already. Also having to dissect every single word (exaggerating here) put me off quite a bit. Even more so when it came to poetry. As for what I am currently reading: I finished "The Innocent Bone" by Cody McFadyen yesterday and am still undecided what I want to read next.Hah I was always a big reader but I was kind of indifferent to 1984 and Brave New World both (I was much more interested in romantic and Victorian literature, like Hawthorne or Dickens). I did read Animal Farm right out of high school though and that book hit me in the GUT. As for All Quiet on the Western Front, I switched schools three times in my freshman year and had to read it THREE times! XD

XD Now that you said it I remember having to read Brave New World, too, but I really liked it. I had to read Anne Frank's Diary three times. Twice at my old school and once after I had switched. A book that I hated the first time and liked the second time I had to read it was "A Village Romeo and Juliet", a german novella from 1856. Maybe age played a part in that whole story, too, because the first time I was about 14, iirc, the second time was when I was 19. When I'm done with my current book (that has no official english title but could be translated as "The dead Women of Vienna") I'm going to reread Brave New World! Thanks for giving me the idea.

Diving SeriesThis starter bundle includes the first three books in the series: Diving into the Wreck, City of Ruins and Boneyards.
Diving into the Wreck
Boss dives derelict space vessels, for money, yes, but more for their historical value. So, when Boss uncovers the find of a lifetime, she enlists the best divers she can convince to help her pursue it—off the grid and under the Empire’s radar.
Boss’ discovery leads her and some of her team to the Room of Lost Souls. Boss remembers the Room. It haunts her. Her mother died there. Now, a client wants her to go back. She wants Boss to help her uncover the Room’s mysteries. But the truths she discovers might destroy everything Boss holds sacred.
Because the more they discover, the less they realize they know—and the more it will cost them all.

My recent and current reading:
*The Legion of Flame (Draconis Memoria 2) by Anthony Ryan. So far 4/5. Really good reading. *The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley. Hmph. She's written better. Not a recommendation. *Dangerous Gamers by Xavier Lastra. A book about a current trend in video game commentary and its bad effects. *A Princess of the Chameln by Cherry Wilder. An old classic from the 1980s I'm rereading. *The River of Shadows (The Chathrand Voyage 3) by Robert V. S. Redick. Good read, but I had to take a break from it. *The Raven Stratagem (Machinations of Empire 2) by Yoon Ha Lee. Really weird SF with a fascinating main character. Highly recommended.
Meanwhile, "Age of Swords" (First Empire 2) by Michael J. Sullivan should arrive on my ebook reader tomorrow and if it does, I'll put everything else aside, finish it in three days and then complain about having to wait for the next book for a few months.

The Rimes TrilogyThis thing is good stuff. I love the fact that amazon will have decent sized samples so you can get a sense of a book. World peace can be deadly.Humans discover alien technology and start colonizing worlds outside the solar system. Genetic modification produces miracles. Science advances the human condition. And, for the first time in history, the nations of the world have achieved real peace with each other. But only the elite truly benefit from all the advancements. Most people are still trapped on an Earth ruined by chemical pollution, nuclear accidents, and chaotic weather changes. Rebellious "genies"--genetically engineered servants--cause more harm than good. And global corporations have stripped the idea of nations and freedom of any real meaning.Sergeant Jack Rimes is no stranger to intrigue. The U.S. Army Special Forces operator lives in a time where every nation on Earth is at peace… but there are plenty of secrets to go around. As corporate greed threatens humanity, genetically engineered humans are making international mayhem of their own. After his unplanned reassignment to the Intelligence Bureau, Jack is tasked with tracking down a rogue agent implicated in a political assassination. As he and his new partner, an old flame, search the globe for answers, the truth shakes him to his core. The powers-that-be may not be very interested in keeping humanity alive…Momentary Stasis is the first book in a provocative series of grimdark military sci-fi novels full of intrigue, horror, and action that unflinchingly explores the impact of technology and unbridled greed on humanity. If you like gritty, flawed protagonists, tech-heavy thrillers, and incredible new worlds, then you’ll love the first installment from PR Adams’ provocative new series.Edit: No wonder he gets the military mindset pretty well. Former Air Force. Wooo!

Ill put this in spoilers because since the BSN is all about M/M or W/W, I figured i'd go out and get a list, just to show that the material is out there, even if you have to look a bit more. As for my usual reads: The Progenitor trilogyKatherine O’Reilly and Rekkid Cor. Human and Arkari. Archaeologists with a story about an ancient derelict starship that few believe and a captain’s log that tells of an ancient genocidal war that no-one has ever heard of. But if no-one believes their story, then why are the authorities so keen to suppress it?
Captain Michelle Chen of the Commonwealth Navy. Brave, cunning, merciless. Dangerous even. However she may be just the person her superiors have been looking for to start a war.
Steven Harris. Secret agent with a conscience, who defied orders, ignored the chain of command and let his morals get in the way of his career.
Quickchild. An AI of unknown origin and staggering power that does not know who it truly is.
As the colonies of the human Commonwealth stand on the brink of war with the fanatic legions of the alien K’Soth Empire, these five individuals are drawn to the backward, arid planet of Maranos that stands between the two civilisations. As relations between human and alien deteriorate, Maranos is about to give up its ancient, terrifying secrets.

Hmmmm.....hmmmmmmm.......*rummages around amazon* So you want low tech fantasy? Akin to Fire/Ice. Chronicles of the Black CompanyDarkness wars with darkness as the hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must. They bury their doubts with their dead.
Then comes the prophecy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more…It has some magic but its fairly low key. Gentleman Bastards An orphan’s life is harsh—and often short—in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game—or die trying.Heroes DieThis other series: The Shadow CampaignsThis one isnt quite feudalism but its guns/muskets tech era with low key magic spread through out. Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne. In The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley, the emperor of Annur is dead, slain by enemies unknown. His daughter and two sons, scattered across the world, do what they must to stay alive and unmask the assassins. But each of them also has a life-path on which their father set them, destinies entangled with both ancient enemies and inscrutable gods.
Kaden, the heir to the Unhewn Throne, has spent eight years sequestered in a remote mountain monastery, learning the enigmatic discipline of monks devoted to the Blank God. Their rituals hold the key to an ancient power he must master before it's too late.
