Hmmmm.....hmmmmmmm.......*rummages around amazon* So you want low tech fantasy? Akin to Fire/Ice. Chronicles of the Black CompanyDarkness wars with darkness as the hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must. They bury their doubts with their dead.
Then comes the prophecy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more…It has some magic but its fairly low key. I've been on the waiting list for this at my library for about 6 months, and am still 2nd in line. Guess I'll just buy it. :sob: I quite liked the Red Knight, but I think the series went to shit after the first book. A good one I read about a year ago was a Throne of Bones if you ever want to read about what happens when Goblins take on a Roman Legion.

Warp Marine CorpsThe last book just hit. Aww yiss. Those are the first 4 books. Its good stuff esp if you love mil sci fi. They picked a fight with the wrong species.
A NATION AT WAR: The United Stars of America. Born in the conflagration of unprovoked alien attack, the newest entrant to galactic politics took the few crumbs of hypertech gifted to it and ran with them, soon expanding over dozens of star systems and establishing a wide trade network, protected by its powerful Navy and the dreaded Warp Marines.
A FIGHT TO THE DEATH: A single Marine platoon, tasked with protecting an embassy on a hostile alien planet. An embassy – and the human enclave around it – that soon finds itself surrounded by armed mobs. Can the Marines and a ragtag band of civilian and Navy personnel survive long enough to be rescued?

And this is all about raising gsd puppies, awwwwwww. The Art of Raising a Puppy. For more than thirty years the Monks of New Skete have been among America's most trusted authorities on dog training, canine behavior, and the animal/human bond.
In their two now-classic bestsellers, How to be Your Dog's Best Friend and The Art of Raising a Puppy, the Monks draw on their experience as long-time breeders of German shepherds and as trainers of dogs of all breeds to provide--brilliantly distilled--the indispensable information and advice that every dog owner needs.
This new edition of The Art of Raising a Puppy features new photographs throughout, along with updated chapters on play, crating, adopting dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, raising dogs in an urban environment, and the latest developments in canine health and canine behavioral theory.

Finished When Breath Becomes Air. A strong reccomendation, though not exactly light reading. Currently reading Where Good Ideas Come From. It's really hitting the right notes for me. It applies to a variety of fields: Economics, Biology, or anything that involves Inventiveness. If you're looking for a way to find the right mix of environments and mindset for coming up with something brilliant, get this book. Immediately.

Odyssey OneBeyond the confines of our small world, far from the glow of our star, lies a galaxy and universe much larger and more varied than anyone on Earth can possibly imagine. For the new NAC spacecraft Odyssey and her crew, the unimaginable facets of this untouched world are about to become reality. The Odyssey’s maiden voyage is an epic adventure destined to make history. Captain Eric Weston and his crew, pushing past the boundaries of security, encounter horrors, wonders, monsters, and people, all of which will test their resolve, challenge their abilities, and put in sharp relief what is necessary to be a hero. A first-rate military science fiction epic that combines old-school space opera and modern storytelling, Into the Black: Odyssey One is a riveting, exhilarating adventure with vivid details, rich mythology, and relentless pacing that will leave you breathlessly awaiting book two.

The Reach seriesIts still 99 cents for the next 12 hrs or so. He's a pretty good writer. Mostly sci fi and cyberpunk. The Earth is suffocating under toxic skies and there’s only one way for those left behind to escape – the space elevator that sits atop the massive structure known as the Reach.
Knile Oberend is an outcast, a man exiled for the crimes of his past. Thrown an unlikely lifeline, he has less than forty-eight hours to cash in his ticket at the top of the Reach and escape off-world.
Standing in his way are a legion of corrupt police, drug lords, and demons from his own past.
As time runs out, Knile will find himself embroiled in a war that threatens to destroy the entire Reach.

I've already read his King Arthur series and it was great. I thought the Last Kingdom was more historical fiction than fantasy though.

I usually don't recommend audio books too often but the ones for Kloos' Frontline series are reaaallly good. And the one for Dune as well. Plus if you already own the kindle version of Frontline, each book is only 2 bucks for the listening upgrade. Get the free 30 days. Grab the 1 credit freebie on Dune, then use it to get the Frontline audio for 10 shekels. Its that good. Mainly because even with the 30% off bonus as a member for the month, Dune costs 30 dollars or so for the audio setup. www.audible.com/

I like on going series or universes such as the Banks Culture one or Larry nivens known space. Recommendations? I'm a huge Banks fan. You probably know these already, but other series I'd recommend would be Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos and Alistair Reynolds' Revelation Space series. Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun is one of my favorite ever series, but it's not to everyone's tastes. Tad Williams' Otherland is another series I enjoyed reading again recently.
