This one may be a novella or long short story which is what the last one I read was. I have a few more to read before completing all of his major works. The biggy I have left is the brothers K. Do you have a fav of the ones you have read? I really liked Demons but I think my fav is "The Idiot" Not sure, i really loved a lot crime & punishment, the idiot and house of the deads chronicles (whatever the title is in English), it built me sort of when i was becoming an adult. I loved Brother K later on (i remember chosing not to read it asap). I find it a bit more mature and better built than the first 2. I guess that was more me than dosto I read crime & P recently again and was a bit disapointed , so my fav now wld be the house of the dead chronicles. I should read the demons asap now, as i forgot about it too. But i guess i m not in love anymore The idiot is really a gem though, that character is one of the best ever built I totally agree about the main character in the idiot, totally unique. Demons is very good imo but pretty warped characters.

Now that i m here, i ll shoot, i m slowly reading "the book of Abraham" ( wiki ) Its quite good after a bit boring start. It makes you travel from jerusalem in 70 AD up to WWII following Abraham filiation. GIves a good feel of what makes the jewish diaspora unique and so durable along the centuries.

I actually stopped reading Philip K. Dicks "Confessions of a crap artist" - because its quite boring and normal, which I didnt expect from the author. It seems he wanted to try to make a "popular reading" book of the time, but for me, its boring. So I moved on to: Which is the 'normal' PKD stuff, exciting, bizarre, different and fun

Man that's a surprise for PKD to be boring and normal. There was one of his called Ubik which I think is the only PKD book I haven't finished, it was a bit weird but it just didn't grab me. Ubik IS very hard to grasp, I didnt in my first time reading it. Its coming up on the list soon too, hope to understand it better then. Its one of those "you dont know where in time we are in the story" -stories, like some of his short stories are. But it doesnt end to that, there are other twists that completely bork reader mind from time to time... Confessions... I read somewhere it really was his attempt to write a more popular/normal story, and for me its not working much.

Finally got to read it. All of the Song of Ice and Fire books where two good months of my life a few years back. I have my Issues with the tv series, but I also had my issues with the books. Brandon Sandersons take of "good people in horrible situations" is more my style. I guess because you can relate better to a world that is not nearly Grim Dark. But that is nit picking. The world building is great so far. Though I am not a lore junkie and more a character over analyzer I enjoy Martins Work. He is sort of the Stephen King Gardener style of writer, and not the Architect Sanderson guy. Oh and I don't support any house, or doctrine in these books. Some of the characters I can relate to, others became memes over the years. In the books I liked Dany for quite some time, though I don't like her actress. The hound was my absolute favorite. And last but not least "Cat of the Cannals". But that is way too much HBO show at this time of day.

So what I've read ... Very good read, talking about everything, mostly talking about High cultures and civilizations, their organic lives turning mechanical and rigid, their resemblances and how they decay when become too megalopolitan and corrupted by social and money politics. <-probably the shortest review possible! Excellent book, controversial in parts, but it predicts revolutions and struggles of today very closely.

I'm not sure why I don't visit this thread more often. I finally read "Outlaws of the Marsh" a month or two ago. It's alternately sad, dark and hilarious. It was a fun read. Now, I'm revisiting Three Kingdoms at a very leisurely pace. It's long been one of my favorites. It is a novel that tells the story of nearly a century of war, covering all of the scheming, power plays, politics, strategy and battles that implies. Next, I'll tackle "A Dream of Red Mansions" and "Journey to the West", though the order will be dependent upon my mood. They're very different stories. One is a tragic love story, social commentary, and more. "Redology", the methodized analysis of this novel, is a real thing. The other is a fantastical mythological tale. These four novels are the classic epics of China. It's hard to overstate their importance in East Asian culture. I meant to have them read them years ago, and I'm glad I've finally gotten good translations to make it happen. I will also have some Science Fantasy stuff incoming shortly. I've always enjoyed gaming books, both settings and crunchy stuff. Numenera is a fun one, and the Numenera 2 KS begins fulfillment in a few weeks.

After a terrible war almost extinguished humanity, the New Terran Empire rises from its own ashes. Sent on an exploratory mission to the dead worlds of the Old Empire, Commander Jared Mertz sets off into the unknown. Only the Old Empire isn’t quite dead after all. Evil lurks in the dark. With everything he holds dear at stake, Jared must fight like never before. Victory means life. Defeat means death. Or worse.

They're often made and remade in tv series every decade. Your speaking of the classics reminds me of A Thousand And One Nights. A 16 volume collection of Arabian folktales that I found fascinating and amusing. I'm presently reading this;

Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence. I burned through Red Sister thanks to #Ieldra s review above. It was a good read (boy, is Nona ever angry!) and I am enjoying Grey Sister so far. There is a third book due out in 2019. Apparently Mr Lawrence wrote them all as a piece and the publisher is releasing them slowly.

Just finished the main Venomverse series. It was *excellent*. I want to pick up the Edge of Venomverse prequel issues, and get the trades for the sequel series when those release later this year. Venomized Old Man Logan and Captain Venom are standout highlights, despite Cap’s limited screen time. Venomized Ghost Rider is cool as shit although he has practically no presence too, unfortunately. While I wait for the new trades to come out, I’ll be re-reading the various Gears of War comics and catching up on Planet Hulk and World War Hulk.

I wonder if it s not senile right gibberish ? In parts it might be, but most of it is quite fascinating. Morphology of history, great cultures (he talks more about Apollonian, Magian, Faustian, Chinese and Ancient Egyptian, comparatively), great "persons" of every culture, states and conservative political pragmatism, religion and art (and their changes and downfall through epochs in each culture), psychology, anthropology and sociology of country side and big cities, epistemology, mathematics and science (probably outdated, yet he knows Niels Bohr), western money, etc.
