Ah yes midichlorians I have dismissed that claim as the drunken ramblings of Yoda. better explainations than what the sequels came up with Rey. Anything > Absolutely nothing

At this point I seriously want Disney Wars to die. They've got Lando Calrissian played by a guy who looks like this diddler : Not that I ever gave 2 shits or a fuck about Solol: A Star Wars Whoring.

For those who wanted positivist scientific method kind of explanation for the force it did the job. Except it contradicted Obi-Wan's explanation of the Force in A New Hope. Not really, because Midi-Chlorians themselves are NOT the Force and I think most people don't understand that. They allow interaction with it within Sapient life. They are cells, they are not the energy field that Obi-Wan described.

You have to admit Lucas did a half arsed job explaining what exactly what Midi-Chlorians were what role they played and it got worse during the Clone Wars cartoon. He'd have been better off not trying to explain how that Force worked. But nooo... that was to easy. Midi-Chlorians along with Jar Jar have to be on the top 10 reasons why some people hate the prequels as much as they seem to do.

I wonder if there's a water based shower on the Millennium Falcon, or if they used a sonic shower instead.

Colfoley explained at the top of this page that he doesn't like midichlorians because of the idea that greatness is linked with genetics. That is, you are great because you are born great (you were born with an exceptionally high midichlorian count). "Anakin's midichlorian count is sky high, he will surely be a great Jedi just like Master Yoda who also has a sky high midichlorian count." And that the whole point of a rags to riches story, or a farmboy to hero story (like the original), is the concept that we can all be great if we work at it. I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Anyway back to Chewbacca, if Chewie became captain of the Millenium Falcon, would he immediately declare himself Captain Chewbacca, take up piracy, and style his hair like this:

Yes, I loved many novels/comics from "Legends", and it is indeed true I was profoundly disappointed by Rebels and Episode 8. I LOVED Rogue One, and liked episode 7, however. I try my best (not always successfully) to judge all fiction by it's OWN Merits, rather than unfairly comparing it to other stuff or my own weird, unfair standards

Which is also not the reason I hate them, though that is annoying. Regarding the genetic thing, I never really got that as a theme in the original trilogy. Even in the first, we’re told Luke’s father was a Jedi and Luke inherited his lightsaber. And Rey is even further from that ideal. She’s powerful not because of any effort of training on her part, but because Destiny. Sure she isn’t the heir of some big bloodline, but her strength is still predetermined.

Anyway back to Chewbacca, if Chewie became captain of the Millenium Falcon, would he immediately declare himself Captain Chewbacca, take up piracy, and style his hair like this: Actually (and what I am about to say I still give the prequels credit for, but think it could have been executed better, before anyone thinks I am 'bashing the prequels) it has occured to me: This could have been a great idea. The Jedi came off as arrogant in the prequels and this could have been another manifestations of that. Medichlorians weren't real but the Jedi believed they were because it allowed them to justify their actions in the galaxy, their monkness, their isolation, taking force sensitive kids with high medichlorian counts. Much like how magic in Harry Potter was also tied to the blood but then JK Rowling explored this issues with characters like Filch (a character born in the magic world who did not have magic) and Hermione (a magical character born in the muggle world). Of course ultimatley you can have a lot more story room to explore such interesting philosophical concepts like this, but then this issue has never really been properly explored or executed except for maybe a little in Episode III and then in Episode VIII.

Granted this is left up to interpretation (obviously) but I do also sometimes wonder if the reason Rey is so good at the force is because she has had so much training in mundane things that she does not use the Force like a crutch. (An issue actually brought up a couple of times in the New Jedi Order novels actually)

Seeing as Midi-Chlorians are a hot topic here is how I dealt with them in my Star Wars story. It's not perfect by any means. “You think Anakin is the Chosen One of Jedi prophecy, don’t you?” Nathrrya asked bluntly. Qui-Gon was going to ask how she knew such a thing but the question died before he even asked. Her cousin who had been a Jedi so he was the likely source of her knowledge. The Jedi Master nodded as he took the blood sample and inserted it into his commlink, then he called Obi-Wan. “Obi-Wan...” said Qui-Gon waiting for his Padawan to answer. “Yes, Master?” “Make an analysis of this blood sample I'm sending you.” Qui-Gon noticed Nathrrya had a question in her eyes. “I need a midi-chlorian count.” The Sith looked totally baffled by this. “What in the Living Force does a midi-chlorian blood test have to do with Anakin’s strength in the Force?” she asked clearly confused. What kind of messed up galaxy have I woken up in?“Midi-chlorians are a microscopic life form that resides within all living cells. Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force.” Obi-Wan replied through the commlink. The Sith blinked, once, twice then she facepalmed. “Living Force, you Jedi have clearly lost the knowledge of what Midi-chlorians are!” she cried in utter disbelief. “As that’s the biggest load of Bantha poo-doo I’ve ever heard! Whoever the kriff came up with that needs a blaster put to their head.” She snorted “Midi-chlorians are indeed bacteria and they are only attracted to those with the Force but that’s all they are. Also, some species have a body chemistry that’s toxic to Midi-chlorians and while they can have Force sensitivity they’ll have almost no Midi-chlorians. Hell, I knew a human Sith, Darth Nox was her name and she had a well below average Midi-chlorian count but weak in the Force she most certainly was not.” Both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were stunned into silence as their view of Midi-chlorians and by extension the Force had just been turned upside down and inside out by a woman who openly admitted to being Sith but who also should not be alive. The most perplexing thing for the Jedi Master was that he sensed no deception in Nathrrya’s words. Her baffled reaction to the blood test and Obi-Wan’s expiation were genuine and she truly believed what she’d told them. Had far too much fun writing that. I'll go crawl into my bunker now

I'll go crawl into my bunker now I actually like this. It fits my take well enough because it still says Midichlorians exisist, are connected to the force somehow, but not in the way the Jedi think. Though from a writers point of view your prose is a little blunt (then again mine could be too so pot meet kettle etc.) I too wrote a Star Wars fic a while ago and pretty sure they came up but I do not remember how I dealt with them.
