The mere thought of Disney doing anything in the Old Republic era terrifies me. Why? They'll somehow manage to totally and utterly butcher the source material. But seeing as Disney shot themselves in the foot when then made The Old Republic era and %99 of Star Wars lore 'Legends' I think we're fairly safe. I'm sure people will be shocked but I thought Disney went about the legends thing about the best way they could.

All movies I have ever seen. Granted it is a bit of a bold statement given there are so many movies out there dealing with the dangers of totalitarinism or various forms of big governments so I am probably missing something. But, no movie comes as readily to mind in attacking some of the specific (albeit extremist) tennants of progressivism. "Let the past die, kill it if you have to." Was uttered by the BAD GUY of the piece, Kylo Ren, and that would not sound the least bit out of place amongst certain American politicos. And the protagonists of the piece (Luke, Yoda, Rey and Poe) go out of their way to counter that idea by honoring and learning from the past all in their specific ways. I can't say for sure but I don't think he meant Progressivism with a captial P, I think he was just using the word progressive to mean liberal in the American sense. I come from a very liberal country so these movies barely ping the old liberalmeter for me. I cant speak för the pölitics öf öther cöuntries. But this mövie is öne öf the möst far left prögressive mövies I have seen in a löng while. Especially för a sci fi actiön adventure mövie. At least fröm my American pröspective.

So this is a video that Ihave been looking forward to, one of three post TLJ release on Blu Ray that I have been actively looking forward to as well as the Cinema Wins and Sins on it. I like Mikey's anyalisis...for the most part...and his presentation is top notch. Usually when I disagree with him he still presents himself really well.
And this video actually got me to reconsider a lot about TLJ and refine my opinion on certain issues. Even some of the stuff I have been talking about recently and well...it is very interesting. Though, I do dissaprove of him doing a small tangent to pick on the prequels...a little.
But in the end the other reason why I shared this video is he makes a point about his commentary that needs to be made. A while back Warden asked me a question on what I view debating as...very vague generalized version of the conversation...and i never got back to Warden. But this video encompasses a lot of the idea, despite his own short comings all he (and I) wants to do is discuss the movies, the flaws and the merits. Lets not hate each other or go after one another for those opinions. We are all fans of the franchise.

That's a fair post, colfoley, except it ignores one thing. I am no longer interested in, excited by, or motivated in any way to see or be involved in Star Wars. My enthusiasm for the old films and prequels has also diminished significantly. You can only attribute so much of that to age and how "people change". I own probably MSRP $2500 of Star Wars Lego kits. I modded and still have a WIP mod for SWKOTOR2 The Sith Lords. I own pretty much every PC released Star Wars video game. I have the original trilogy on VHS where Han Shoots First, and no CGI added. I also own the whole shebang 1-6 on BluRay. So, just exactly what happened? Well, The Force Awakened happened, which I found pretty terrible, and Rogue One (at home on Netflix) despite being well made with a few interesting characters, mostly wasted those and bored me. So, I didn't even watch TLJ yet, and will only do so out of morbid curiosity and quite probably not finish it. Am I too attached to the characters I remember? Am I too old-fashioned and the sexual parity of the prequels (and even ANH for its time, really) was obviously not enough? To me, the Force is a dangerous thing to the untrained. That makes sense to me... I have never had any supernatural powers, but if I suddenly got some, I hope that I would be a mature and moral enough man to resist temptation and somehow use my powers only for "good". But, is what is good for me good for everyone? Am I rational enough to learn how to hone my ability without any guidance, whatsoever? Rey is a character I would absolutely love, if the tradition she now represents and the grand history it contains wasn't relegated to useless dogma. But hey, Rey is the way baby. So, I guess ultimately we are not still fans of the same franchise, and I find gigantic problems with most of your opinions regarding Disney Wars, as if you were a shill to be frank. I know what to expect with every single post you make, and that is a sham. Shame. I dunno.

I know what to expect with every single post you make, and that is a sham. Shame. I dunno. Honestly, I find this idea so totally alien to me. I can understand most of the criticisms of the Last Jedi that I have seen (though admittedly there are a few instances where I have gotten the: 'are we watching the same movie' effect), but I do not know how any piece of entertainment can rhetroactively ruin the good bits or good feelings of the elements of a franchise I do actually like. If I did hate something that much I may wash my hands of it for the future, but I would still like or love what I will. As much as I disliked elements of the prequels or HATED the Force Unleashed that does not change my love for Return of the Jedi or really effected my enjoyment of SWs as a whole. I mean the closest I came to this probably was the original ending to Mass Effect 3 but I can't ever remember thinking to myself 'god...you know what? I hate ME 2 now.' Granted I suppose there could be a unique situation with Jedi since it did recontectualize some of the stuff of Star Wars, but then I think a lot of that has been for the positive.

For me, I don't go throwing my opinions around before I actually see the thing. That's a bit low don't you think? Calling someone a sham over entertainment? I wish the fandom wasn't so toxic over petty things.

Inclusive, sure, but that's not seen as left-wing anymore, merely proper. I presume you'd see the same response on most of the West Coast. (You can also read it as populist, but that doesn't map very well onto left-right anymore.) Hey, Snaggletoöth, I've been meaning to ask... what's with the umlauts?

Here's a shocker: I went and saw APM six times in the theater. It was a slow summer for me Got you beat. 9 times for me. I was all of 9 years old, so most of them I was brought along by relatives. Two times with my nuclear family, then a few times with just my sisters, a couple of times various aunts, uncles and cousins. Frankly, I think my parents just used it as a glorified method of babysitting so they could have a few hours sans kids. It worked. The only film to mach that number for me was Fellowship of the Ring. My oldest sister is a LotR maniac, so she was the driving force. I went with her every time because I had nothing better to do, and my parents had a bag of holding that was overflowing with cash. Or so I thought at the time. The only other films I've seen more than once in theaters were Revenge of the Sith(5 times), The Avengers(5 times) and Avatar(3 times). The older I get, the less inclined I am to spend an evening at the theater. Stupid regular 8-5 job. At least when I was an hourly working stiff, I could count on the occasional weekday to head into a matinee for 5 bucks.

Got you beat. 9 times for me. I was all of 9 years old, so most of them I was brought along by relatives. The perfect age to see APM - too young to recognise how much it sucks and by the time you get older nostalgia kicks in. I've read the synopsis for Star Wars' new animated series "Resistance" and unfortunately it does absolutely nothing for me.
