Sigh...honestly he can probably get away with directing a minor side story but other than that I don't want him involved. Not in anything Disney is treating as a tent pole event, not with full control, and certainly not in charge at Lucasfilm again. I'd take Jar Jar and midichlorians over Jake Skywalker and space horses any day of the week.

After the mess that is Sequel Trilogy, we need an injection of creativity by Lucas.

I really wouldn't mind Lucas coming back. The prequels for their faults at least told a coherent story, and the movies built on each other, all flowing into one overarching narrative of how the Jedi were wiped out and how the Empire came to power.
They just made some bad casting decisions, and failed at the presentation.
The latest trilogy was all over the place pivoting each movie to a new direction. Rey was nobody and anyone can become Jedi, you don't need pedigree. Wait what, you do need pedigree. Snoke is the big bad, wait no, Kylo kills Snoke to become the big bad. Wait what, Palpatine has been the big bad all along. There was never even Snoke. Luke quit caring about the Jedi and went into exile. Wait what, Luke didn't go into exile, he went looking for Sith artifacts, found something was amiss, but decided now he needed to go into exile without telling anyone.
I could go on and on. The story telling and character development were awful.
At the end of the day if you ask me who I want in charge of Star Wars 'Insert Name' or Kathleen Kennedy. I'm going with 'Insert Name'. I don't even need to know who it is. Can't be any worse.

Seriously though reading and watching bts and commentataries I get a mini wince at a lot of the things he has said and done. Especially with recent revelations are true and they probably are. It seems no accident that with the sole exception of Episode 3 that my least favorite SWs movies are all the ones he had the most control over. And even episode 3 he made a couple really dubious choices.
KK JJ and Rian have done magnificent jobs with the property. They took a franchise that I once loved then had a giant worried meh reaction too and made it lovable again.
Oh and I forgot Lucas had story input on the Force Unleashed as well!
Anyways I'll forever be grateful for the idea he had that put all this into motion but, thankfully, so many others took that idea and ran with it.

Yeah Disney did by ignoring the prequels and listening to ranting Youtubers who keep saying that Lucas “raped their childhoods.” It’s because of the mess that Disney created is the reason why Star Wars is in the mess that it is. They ignored a generation that grew up with the prequels while pandering to the extreme portion of the Original Trilogy and also the insane portion of the Reylo fan base. Say what you will about TFU but Galen Merek is a more memorable character than Finn and that’s a real shame considering the unique backstory Finn had.

They specifically didn't ignore the prequels, only the (controversial) bad parts which the Jedi probably mis interpreted anyways.

KK JJ and Rian have done magnificent jobs with the property. Okay, now I KNOW you're joking! Believe me I'm not. The sequels get such literal hate around here that I feel compelled to share my appreciation for them. How much they mean to me, and Star Wars as a whole. You might not like them, that is perfectly within your purview...but that doesn't mean others can't.

You might not like them, that is perfectly within your purview...but that doesn't mean others can't. Wanting to draw attention to the virtues of something because everyone else keeps pointing the bad out is one thing. That makes perfect sense. Calling it objectively great and good while trying to downplay its flaws because you personally enjoyed it is something else.

All of this comes down to personal taste. Yes it has flaws but people can disagree on those flaws and on the effect they have on each of us. For instance Rose Tico was shortchanged in Episode 9, probably as a reaction to her arc in 8 and Finn was given ANOTHER love interest in 9. It's an issue that others pointed out and I agree with said issues...but it's not important to me.

The original title of Episode IX was Duel of Fates apparently. www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/comments/eoaxdn/robert_meyer_burnett_reviews_an_early_draft_of/Not sure how I feel about all of this. But a darker arc for Kylo, and him having killed Rey's parents would have been great. Also, Kylo being haunted by Luke's force ghost. Or all of this: Rey confides in Finn that she doesn't feel like she has what it takes to be a Jedi and can't live up to everyone's expectations. Finn asks her if she still senses Kylo. Rey confesses she's been having nightmares. Finn asks if it's Kylo. Rey says she can't explain their connection.
Finn: "You have to shut him out. He can't change. It's too late." Rey: "It's never to late to change. You taught me that Finn."
Rey researching the Jedi texts from Anch-To discovers that under Coruscant Jedi Temple there is a communication system (called a FORCE BEACON) from the Old Republic that can send a signal to 50 planets. They plan on using it to get allies. First Order can't stop it, since it predates Imperial tech. Rey: "Hope is all we have left."
Force Ghost Luke appears as Rey trains. Luke is pushing Rey to get stronger in the Force, while he is pushing Kylo to let Ben out.
Rey to Luke as they train: "Balance? The dark suffocates the light, light extinguishes the dark. Over and over and over again. How is that balance in the force?"
Luke: "I know that anger. My father had it too.'
Rey: "So says my master and his master before him. A thousand masters so eager to tell us how to live."
Rest of exchange between Rey and Luke is basically Rey trying to back away from being a Jedi (she admits she is NO ONE) and Luke trying to convince her (he says the Force is speaking to her). Wow, actual character development. Must be why Disney didn't want this version. I'm also intrigued by this. Rey disguised as a Tusken Raider is revealed to have created her own weapon (a double-blade lightsaber hybrid of her staff and Luke's cracked saber)Much better Hux is this one as well. They did him so wrong in TROS. Wasted his entire character to start some ridiculous spy storyline, just to introduce Palpatine because they hadn't laid any groundwork prior. I don't know if I like everything in this version, but this would have been a much better movie. Would have used what currently existed instead of trying to tell an entirely new story in the last movie of a trilogy.

You guys are silly. George Lucas wil NEVER return to Filmmaking, much less Star Wars. He's retired & rich, why would he want to be stressed out and verbally crucified all over again??? Also the Skywalker saga is over, there's not much room for his story ideas in the "New canon"

Kylo killing Rey's parents probably would've been alright but it also opens up a boat load of questions. And Hux arc, hard to see how it could've been any better then what we got in TROS...especially if he had NOT betrayed Kylo.

I know I tend to probably have a reputation as Jedi hunting being my national pastime...but we've already had a movie which dealt with the failures and philosophical redemption of the Jedi Order. The commentary about balance in the Force is an interesting angle to explore...but its more or less the same destination as what we got. Now that's an interesting idea...but I thought the script mentioning him killing them years ago. Sure. At the end of TLJ one of my pet theories was that Hux would ultimately be responsible for Kylo's downfall, maybe even killing him. But the issue is this movie was bloated enough to begin with and had Hux gotten more of an arc might've ruined Kylo's perfectly satisfying redemption arc.

... I know I tend to probably have a reputation as Jedi hunting being my national pastime...but we've already had a movie which dealt with the failures and philosophical redemption of the Jedi Order. The commentary about balance in the Force is an interesting angle to explore...but its more or less the same destination as what we got. … It's more... WAY more than what we got in RoS. Maybe if the average viewer knew what an orange saber meant. RoS is basically good vs evil, light = good, dark = bad, bright light conquer deep electrified darkness. Kylo went dark, redeemed when back to the light. That story was better done in RotJ for a host of reasons - primarily probably due to the originality of it.

Well on the face of it I disagree with you on RoS, RoTJ... But good triumphing over evil isn't exactly an original concept. Not now and not in the 80s. I think there was a lot more to it going on in RoS considering where all the characters ended up. I mean when you get down to it yes 'good' won and 'evil' lost...like in a good handful of stories...but how they won and the revelations of the Force dyad and the merging of two essenses in one being...a person with dark side lineage who chose the light and a light side person who went to the darkside...to me it was a very grey ending.

Yes, in fact good triumphing over evil was not a terribly original concept in the 80s. I was referring to "originality" of presentation, as in RotJ was the one that presented this in the Star Wars science fantasy universe first. I'm sure there is a lot more going on in RoS, it's just not on the screen. The Force dyad was played as a Force-power plot device, used to facilitate communication between two people who tried to influence each other, and whose essences I personally did not see merge. The good guys won, and Rey embraced the Jedi mantle and Skywalker name - not that this was a "bad" ending to the story, I just saw nothing terribly interesting about it. Yes, "child of light embracing evil and child of dark embracing good" is an interesting concept to deny legacy destiny, but I don't know how much people really believed that with Rey - maybe if Rey was a horrid looking old guy/gal with a creepy voice that we were instinctively suspicious of? (Hell, I just accidentally described Yoda from ESB, I really do like that original trilogy). With respect to the Jedi philosophy that was mentioned earlier, do we know what Rey rejected and what was changed? RotJ doesn't have this issue because that movie was literally an embrace of the Jedi way, and supposedly about their return. In TLJ, Luke spoke of vanity and hubris of the Jedi as to why the order had to die - Ok, agreed! To be honest, if the Jedi are instead coming back as Luke later stated, I don't really need to know what the specific change in philosophy is, I just got very little sense that Rey thought the Jedi order/philosophy needed to change.

You guys are silly. George Lucas wil NEVER return to Filmmaking, much less Star Wars. He's retired & rich, why would he want to be stressed out and verbally crucified all over again??? Also the Skywalker saga is over, there's not much room for his story ideas in the "New canon" If Disney was smart, they'd invest a couple of dump trucks full of money and do a "Legends" animated series on Disney+. Heir to the Empire trilogy Jedi Academy trilogy Maybe a Young Jedi Knights spinoff for younger audiences. etc Just get Lucas' blessing (perhaps with one of the dump trucks full of money) and they'll win back tons of followers. But yeah, I fear Disney is too full of self-righteousness to consider the possibility that they maybe needlessly alienated millions of paying customers.

To be honest, if the Jedi are instead coming back as Luke later stated, I don't really need to know what the specific change in philosophy is, I just got very little sense that Rey thought the Jedi order/philosophy needed to change. Sure we don't know what has changed or what will change, that wasn't the point of the movie, which only had a limited run time to tell a lot of story...and instead of just throwing out TLJ it stuck to its guns. But we can infer quite a bit about Rey's possible Jedi Order from her experiences in the movies. She has seen that good isn't always good, and evil isn't always evil, she has seen the damage that destructive adherence to ideals of blood or rigid concepts of morality can be. She has seen how love and the full breadth of human emotion is not something that will doom people, but should be embraced, confronted, and moved past. ( As an aside I realized how much Luke's line about confronting fear is a rejection of Clone Wars era Jedi philosophy) Sure Luke learned much of this too, but Rey has one important advantage he didnt. He never really got a chance to see his heroes as failures, the closest he came was mocking Obi-Wan's certain point of view. But Rey has seen Luke fail and make a tragic mistake, has seen that a strict adherence to the light and certain parts of Jedi philosophy can lead to tragedy. Yes, she might make these very mistakes too... maybe we'll get EU books or something delving into her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order and how she will apply her new character to that pursuit, but I'd like to think she has learned the necessary lessons.

How come people aren't talking about how TLJ threw out the stuff TFA had established. It's not like Rian Johnson left a lot for JJ to work with.
