I was the ripe old age of three when ANH came out so didn't see it till I was 6 or 7. I know I saw it on telly before I saw Empire at the theater.

Watching A New Hope (before it was called 'A New Hope') aged 13, near the front on the big screen was an amazing thing. Hard to forget it (and repeated many many times on the small screen). I was a wee lad of 5. Birthday gift was Star Wars at the drive in. I really didn't appreciate it until I got to watch it 8 thousand times on HBO. Still, I was mesmerized. Too young to see that much violence honestly I was about 6 or 7. Same as you, that movie played more than anything else in my home once cable arrived. Then I started reading the books, including Splinter in the Mind's Eye, which purportedly was going to be Episode 5 but then they went in another direction. This book was in my school library.

Ugh. I’ve seen that before and I still don’t agree with it. I don’t see how they didn’t build off of TFA.

Well, we did have a kodak moment going on there for a bit. Indeed. Should I reply? I'm not sure I should. I have a feeling that discussing a certain type of post, but not necessarily replying to it, might be more interesting.

OK, this is your opinion and I respect it. But could you please point out for me the things that Luke did right in TLJ? Sure. He confronted his demons, trained Rey, taught her how to channel her power, helped save the galaxy. It seems you were right and we each saw a different movie.
Because in the movie I saw Luke ran away instead of facing his sister and his best friend and explain to them how and why he tried to murder their son. Because ofc attempted murder is very in line with his character, also if there's anything that growing in age will teach us it's that we solve our problems in life by running away from them and not by confronting them outright.
He did indeed teach Rey how to feel the force, the first lesson that Yoda taught him, but I must have failed the part about channeling it, again probably due to the differences in the movie I've seen. It doesn't matter, as Rey did not need him to teach her anything, as force-ghost Yoda says: "That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not actually possess" while mocking Luke for his misunderstandings, hitting him on the head with his ghost stick and burning the Jedi library down. A very powerful force-ghost indeed.
And I must have missed the part about how he helped save the Galaxy too, as the only thing I saw him doing was creating a projection of him that served as a decoy, while the actual saving was done by the crystal foxes and Rey. Probably that was a very difficult technique as he dies gloriously as a result.
All in all everything I could have hoped for for a special send-off party for Luke.

Also the original Star Wars movies have always been among my favorite movies but I don’t see them as the “holy trinity” that you guys do. They are far from perfect but still great movies.

Great. The ends justify the means once again. If the movie had been done well, I wouldn't disagree with the meme. As it stands, it is all empty. He forgot Yoda's teachings so he could remember them later. Your boy Jake is a fuckwit.

I've already pointed out what the most Jedi thing Luke ever did was imo (thanks for the gif, Iakus). Not using the force, totally non-violent and submissive and yet winning against the Emperor and turning his father away from the dark side in the process.

That scene in question is just as powerful and as light side as you can get.

The one about one's personal taste, or the one about the quality of a particular piece of "art"? The former isn't debatable, but the latter certainly is.

But I can't remember calling anyone: racist, sexist, manbaby or "being scared by strong female characters" just because (s)he happens to be on the other side of the debate.

Plöt höles and character assassinatiön are öbjective. Approximately 0% of that guarantees you'll get through to some people. As I just told someone else, I've found that beyond a certain point it's best to just disengage from an argument as it's just not fun anymore, and winning an internet argument is hardly a prize in itself.

Plöt höles and character assassinatiön are öbjective. Sö when Finn says in öne scene that it is impössible that they were tracked thröugh hyperspace and then 5 minutes later in the next scene says he knöws where ön Snöke's ship the tracker device is löcated because he used tö möp the floör in there. That is subjective and nöt a plöt höle?
