Reyes Vidal - No longer A Mystery (Official Thread)

I doubt Bioware will make both of the human male LIs non-white. I think they'll go with Reyes being more like Cullen in terms of appearence.

Guys, guys, that CAN'T be Reyes, can it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't he punch Scott in the face during that trailer? I'm assuming that dude is mission related (and also an asshole?).

The only reason I personally think that guy could be Reyes is because we appear to approach him angrily with a bunch of Krogan at our side.

In the gameplay trailer we were talking to Reyes during an investigation of some grisly Krogan murders. We seem to be helping him find evidence that these 'Rokhar' (guessing on the spelling here) Angara are responsible. It is possible that he's asking for our help because he was the one believed to have committed these murders. If the quests starts with us agreeing to help some Krogan find a serial killer targeting their people, our search might lead us to Reyes. And that scene in the newest trailer is where we first approach him. Hence the angry Krogan, and the rather hostile nature of the encounter, where we're accusing him of being the killer, he's getting defensive, and the Krogan just want to kick someone's ass already.

Or, that's just a random scene with some random character, and they happened to pick it as a good intro to the punching montage because dude gets all up in our face like that. Or he could well be important because they bother to show him, be it someone we get off on the wrong foot with but eventually recruit, or some asshole we're forced to deal with for whatever reason. But, not necessarily Reyes.

I'm going to go with NOT Reyes. He looks too drab to be one of the crew members. I think he's probably got some dialogue in one of the missions, maybe a little important in the way of Sloane Kelly, but he's not one of ours.

Agreed. Though I like to think I came up with a pretty believable scenario, I'm totally reaching here. Going only by the evidence of 'there be Krogan!' and making up the rest.

LOL!  Well, I'm shallow AF too when it comes to video game characters that I'm romancing so that's why I'm sort of chanting "please don't be Reyes, please don't be Reyes, please..."

Ayup!  I recently downloaded a mod for Solas that gives him a dark hair stubble and a slight change in face texture and I found that much more palatable.  I'm finally slowly going through a Solas romance with a Dalish mage.  That look for him is now my head cannon.  

Also, just a reminder that we have absolutely NO confirmation if Reyes is an LI. All we really know is that he's (remotely) involved in one mission and he's voiced by Boulton. That's it. Anything beyond that is totally speculation.

Honestly I am the same way with romance options, even when I try not to be with older games. But Bioware hasn't really failed me in that department with any of their games.

I personally didn't find Blackwall attractive and I kinda hope they do not have Reyes looking similar with the bodacious beard and whatnot.

I am on the fence. It could be Reyes, but honestly, I am not so sure. I feel like they wouldn't short change Reyes like that, especially after hyping up Male!Hawke fans. I feel like the man we see, Reyes or not, wasn't shown to get fans to put on their tinfoil hats, but rather to showcase the Avengers reference. The person we see could be a lackey of Sloane Kelly that, if we side with her, we might hook up with briefly.



However, he does match Reyes description and anything is possible, really. The talk of Bioware not announcing all of LI's is kind of worrying. I didn't see a lot of people intrigued by Reyes on Twitter. Hell, a lot of people don't know who he is. I'm kind of afraid that they were underwhelmed by his reception and we might have to wait to see him in game if he is not big enough of an NPC to be in a specialized briefing.

I am still holding out hope for him though. My Scott or Sara or both are waiting rather impatiently to see if he's going to be a good friend or a good romance partner.

Exactly. For all we know Reyes is Caucasian - it's only the Spanish-y accent that's making people think he'll have dark skin. Plenty of pale-skinned latino guys out there if that's what he's supposed to be. Hell, Reyes could be an alien for all we know (yeah, it might be unlikely with the Spanish name and all but Shala'Raan has a Persian name and an Iranian accent and she was a Quarian).

I will 2nd (more like 12th) the notion that I really hope that guy in question in the trailer is NOT Reyes.

I honestly don't think that it is too much to ask that the (most likely only) gay male LI (assuming Reyes IS that guy) at least have some care and attention put into his appearance. It's bad enough that once again he isn't on the squad, at least throw us a bone and give him a unique appearance. The guy in the trailer has plastic skin, pencil thin lips, and basically a Mr. Potato head face. I would hope that BioWare would care enough about their gay fans, or anyone interested in Reyes- gay or straight- to devote some resources into the character.

No one here should apologize for being shallow, or even think that it's just us being shallow. It's not just about appearances, like I said, it is a reflection on how much (or little) care is placed into the character by his creators. It feels like the gay romance is reduced to an afterthought. That we should be always be satisfied with less, or second best.

I hate being pessimistic, and we are going on A LOT of assumptions with limited information, and we could all be pleasantly surprised, but as many of you have already stated- and it is quite evident to us all- that to say that gay male LIs have been lacking in the ME series is beyond an understatement, and there is so much going against gay LIs up to this point that it is easy to not hold out much hope, but I still have some for Reyes, or whoever this mystery gay LI is.

1. Reyes has a fantastic voice.

2. Perhaps the guy in the trailer, if he is indeed Reyes, was how he looked in an unfinished state without polishing. Although this is not likely since everyone else is polished. Though maybe Reyes was left for last in the polishing department...

3. but the guy in the trailer has a hairless, plastic face. So maybe that isn't Reyes and/or the gay LI at all.
