They are heat sinks. Ian addressed this directly via Twitter. He said it was a conscious designchoicd to meld present lore with more "shotgunny" feels, in the case of the Katana. We had a decently long conversation about it on the last page, or so. It will take some getting used to, but I think it's cool, as long as it still respects the established lore. "One sink to fit them all" never made sense, anyway. That I can agree with... still, making new thermo clips on the fly with your omni tool as long as you got resources "on the bank" still feels strange. I'm all for more diverse animations/mechanics for specific weapons. It would be nice if they showed how the omni tool fabricate thermal clips in the new briefing. But it doesn't matter much to me since i will use cooling tech on all my weapons.

What do you mean by consistent coloring? I think the clips you eject from your gun also glow orange. Typhoon is just rule of cool, I agree with that. The power of the weapon certainly doesn't warrant dropping a thermal clip with each shot and I don't really like it (just like I'm not too fond of the many Katana "shells") In terms of coloring, I meant that they could've tried to make it more recognizably similar to the clips we pick up throughout the game, though smaller in scale, of course. It makes sense that it was glowing hot, but I'd have likely included those darker bands around the ends, or something, so that it didn't look just like a bullet casing. I acknowledge that this is nit-picking at its finest. It's very nitpicky.

I wonder if weapons change appearance based on mods and/or rarity since we know there are 3 rarity tiers of weapons. I really hope they change appearance cause I like when modding a weapon it changes the more awesome I make it.

I doubt we'll actually "see" how it works... it will just be a second, total ammo counter counting slowly up - since it's automatic. So, if you are conservative with your clips, you probably never will run out. Like a reverse overheating mechanic of sorts. On upgrades (scopes and stuff): Oh I hope they will have a visual element... just don't make the weapons have gaudy colors based on the material they are made off, please.

No, they actually said there are no ammo pickups this time around, it's all done via resources... which you don't actually pick up, but siphon though material collector installations. Or that's how I understood it...

It's a welcome replacement, though, since I'd not want fields littered with thermal clips throughout Andromeda. This solution is aesthetically superior.

Hey, does that mean we get a VR Test Simulation? That'd be very useful that to test out powers, guns, weapons, mods.

Umm...since when did ME small arms start ejecting spent shells and rounds? I was under the belief that they ejected heat sinks. Did BioWare forget their own rules again? They are heat sinks. Ian addressed this directly via Twitter. He said it was a conscious designchoicd to meld present lore with more "shotgunny" feels, in the case of the Katana. We had a decently long conversation about it on the last page, or so. It will take some getting used to, but I think it's cool, as long as it still respects the established lore. "One sink to fit them all" never made sense, anyway. Fair enough. I still think they look like spent 9mm Luger rounds, but at least we get Word of God on that.

I like this video very much. The weapon kick and weight feel is there, as opposed to previous trailers where it was absent. Well, don't get excited because this was not real gameplay footage, expect the gunplay to look like the previous trailers.

Interesting news regarding how clips will be replenished.
I'm still trying to work out what my go to weapon will be now that the 'Gun that killed 2 presidents' & the entire SMG option is gone.

I mustn't have been paying close enough attention to the briefing, as i thought they'd been canned since in the briefing as they talked about slow rate of fire pistols and then jumped to next category.

No more holding SMGs far away from the body, as if they're covered in poo, or something.

Yes. This was the entire point of the last Andromeda Initiative video. yes I saw that but it only tells the familiar option that we can change the ammunition nothing about color schemes or a deeper method of customisation like changing components. You can craft nearly anything you can imagine. You can add full-auto capability to a shotgun, turn your sniper rifle into a remnant-tech energy weapon, or any number of crazy things. You can mod Milky Way weapons to use intrinsic heat sinks, like the old ME tech, instead of disposable heat sinks like ME2/3 weapons. If you poke around, a bit, we have threads discussing this. It's pretty impressive. Your loadout can really be tailored to complement your character build.
