I like more interaction between squadmates in general, romance included.

I agree with others that I like when the NPCs actually develop relationships (romantic and platonic) with each other outside of the PC's influence. It adds a dynamic quality to the group that I appreciate.

In addition to the "two unromanced romance options get together if they aren't being romanced by the PC" approach (like Isabela/Fenris, Tali/Garrus, & Josephine/Blackwall styles), I'd also like to see two other styles of NPC-to-NPC romance.

First, I'd love to see the return of an already existing couple joining your group (think Jaheira/Khalid - minus the unfortunate BG2 storyline). Maybe a husband and wife (or two husbands or two wives) where one of them is a squaddie and the other is an advisor/expert on ship. That could be an interesting dynamic to explore -- how does the stress of the situation influence their relationship? I'd enjoy seeing that. Plus, it would add some additional stress to missions where someone might die (like the suicide mission) if you take the spouse with you. Could be fun to explore.  Even more so if we don't have to play counselor to them -- just observe through discussions and background dialogue how their relationship is changing over the course of the missions.

Second, I'd love to see two non-romanceable characters get together (kind of similar to Joker/EDI or, to a lesser degree, Aveline/Donnic just because he's such a minor character). Two characters that just aren't into Ryder, but aren't also totally uninterested in a relationship altogether. Again, adds an interesting piece to the development of those relationships. The quest where you help Aveline express her interest in Donnic is one the most memorable companion quests for me. It was fun and didn't rely on every character interested in romance falling for the PC.

What I find (perhaps more) valuable in squaddie relationships are the teasing they can do with each other, comment on each other, have interesting banter, show some cooperation or differences of opinion, and generally give us an insight into their personal backgrounds and viewpoints. I did not enjoy having to be the one (as protagonist) to having to find out everything. The ribbing the squadmates would do in the Citadel Tower elevators (ME-1) had some humor which made the rides a bit more enjoyable.

Intra-squaddie relationships may be okay but I see them as a distraction. For me it should only go so far as to enlighten the character's personalities and backstory, have some kind of bearing on the overall story, or add helpfulness during a mission. For example in ME-2 it might have been nice to hear Zaeed say to Garrus: "Hey Garrus (or: 'Hey Gary') can you snipe that biotic on the right? Give me a distraction so I can lay down cover fire for Shepard." They need to work as a unit, so some unit banter during a fire-fight and cooperation among themselves would add to a more realistic and immersive effect, I think. Say the player is an Infiltrator and has Garrus in the squad for a mission. They could have a standing rivalry as to who's the better sniper during a mission. Their showing sexual interest in each other? I'd have to see how it's done before I would find it useful in an ME story. Having intra-squad sex for no other purpose than to interject juvenile voyeurism for the game player isn't useful; it's nonsensical.

I really don't see why not....although I hated all of these pairings . Especially the Ashley and James one. The only one I really liked was Joker and Edi....and Wrex and all of his breeding requests.
