Alec Ryder 'DadRyder' (Official Thread)

From the latest Andromeda briefing:

"Alec continued military service most notably on Shanxi in the First Contact War against the Turians."

I'm really interested in him as a character now - I love that he's a scientist (apparently into some pretty sketchy research - AI's are illegal don't ya know? ) in addition to just being a soldier. I hope he doesn't end up dead or MIA for the majority of the story - I feel like our relationship to him could be a really interesting one.

He does kinda look like Gamlen.

While I do love how he looks, I reaaaaaally don't like where this is going

Sure, but the Alliance themselves were into AI research.  Remember the rogue VI on Luna?  That was Cerberus/Alliance black ops.  (Well, it was in ME1.  Other media, which I find less trustworthy, says Cerberus had broken away much much earlier.)  Anyway, the illegal research doesn't mean much when your bosses are part of it.

Now that we know MomRyder's name, shouldn't someone start a thread about her?

I definitely want to know what's going on with this cat. He's been at nearly every pivotal moment for human galactic interaction as well as having a connection to Shepard. There weren't that many marines that survived the guerilla campaign at Shanxi so the likelihood of them knowing each other is high. What's also interesting is he (and his wife) were also likely on Luna when rouge VI/EDI was being created. Something happened there.

I mean, seriously, this guy is an Alliance legendary badass. I truly hope we have him in the game more than a few scenes.

Spitball theory time: This may be kind of shaky given the timeline issues. My guess is one of two things happened to ALec's wife, Elen, at the Luna base:
1.) The VI killed Elen and Alec uploaded her consciousness into VI/AI form to create SAM, creating that "special" relationship we've heard so much about.
2.) This is also the mission that allows you to pick a specialization in your class. This is possibly related to the multiclass system in ME:A.

I admit that was definitely not the type of papaRyder face I was expecting behind that shiny glassy mask that we always saw in previous trailers, but I do like what I see for the most part. I realize he's older and it makes sense that he would be graying, but I was thinking rich black hair with gray sides, similar to Percival Graves in Fantastic Beasts: 

but, I shrug. 

I really hope his stubble looks better in game, it looks like face paint in the video
