Alec Ryder 'DadRyder' (Official Thread)

He's the parent of a Bioware protagonist.

Which means he will either die during the prologue or halfway through the game.

And there is nothing you can do about it!

BioWare really pushes Alec which is interesting cuz he's not the Protagonist, he's the first character in the first trailer and also he's on all 3 covers of MEA Editions, maybe going the Deuteragonist/Tritagonist route with the Sibling/Father?.

So Alec was the original Pathfinder of the Human Ark Hyperion before going missing/leaving, then Scott/Sara take on that role for unknown reasons.
Pretty convenient having your kids the next in chain of command, possibly Alec have a relationship with Jien Garson?, we only see him with her in the briefings.

Considering they got Clancey Brown to voice Alec, I doubt he will be killed right out of the gate like these characters because he is a pretty big name among the rest of the cast. 

Nihlus getting taken out early in ME1 was a bit of a shame, but I did like the misdirection with Mhairi. It was totally unexpected when she died an hour into Awakening, when the game took the time to establish a plot arc for her and she even had a companion trailer.

Reminded me something I'd read about Joss Whedon wanting to do the same thing with the Buffy pilot. Introduce Jesse as Willow and Xander's lifelong friend, have him appear in the credits so he seemed like he'd a main character... only for him to be turned into a vampire and ultimately staked by the end of the episode. Unfortunately, the executives wouldn't let him spend money on a new credit sequence that'd only be used for that one episode, simply because he wanted to screw with the audience.

True, but Bioware isn't Bethesda. I can't recall Bioware ever using a big name for a character with little screen time.

That's still a fair bit of screentime as far as NPCs in DAO went. Other than companions, there is only a few NPCS that are on the screen more than Arl Howe. And even if he was mostly an unseen menace, he was one of Loghain's dragons so having a big actor behind him makes sense. 

Fair enough. I meant big names more in terms of actors and actresses rather than big names in general. 

I'd guess that they were at level 27 for demo purposes, but I do hope that Alec does hang around for awhile and that we can have both siblings and the dad all interacting with each other at the same time.

Would be awesome if it's possible that your sibling dies and if you're not close to Papa Ryder he says "the wrong kid died."
