I definitely approve with the latest post related to PapaRyder. Really, I liked this way. The whole time I expected he dies because he is running forward, because he is n7 and works alone. But after you get introduced Alec the n7 professional, the mission has highest priority and so on, and than he puts it to side in front of the near death of his son. Great, its unusually for Bioware.

Woah. My Alec Ryder looks like Morgan Freeman after I created a white girl Sara, lolwut. I guess it doesn't matter but that's gonna trigger some white racists out there pretty bad if that happens to them and that amuses me, lololol.

Wow, what Alec did... without spoiling anything, that was darn heartwarming. Good work BioWare. Omg. The feels! It hits me in all the feels. I just actually had time to watch it myself.
:sob: What he did made sense, and it was a good end for him. I still want him back, but at least his death had meaning.
I finally got to play for the first time last night and I couldn't stop. When I got to this scene (and being a father of 3 sons myself) it hit me pretty hard. I would do the exact same thing for each of my boys. Well, done Bioware. #allthefeels I'm also diasppointed because Alec was THE ONE character I was most excited about in Andromeda. Damnit...

I think most know where this is at. Grabbed it last night. Grabbed a few screen shots prior that I think were pretty cool. Great detail and lighting.

I said it in another thread already, but I'll say it here too - I will believe he's really dead when I see his dead body. Being cremated. Or spaced. Or dissolved in acid. The way his death was handled was kinda suspicious.

The more I think it about it, the more Alec's sacrifice seemed poorly executed to me. Seriously, why couldn't he and Sarah/Scott simply take turns using his helm's breather?

Because the air was toxic enough that both of them died from being helmet-less for a few seconds anyway, with SAM being the reason for Ryder to survive. Now a better solution would be for them to have packed a portable rebreather.

While I thought Alec's death scene was well-executed, it was such a waste of an interesting character. It would have also been nice to have some sort of funeral. It all happened so fast. I suppose the execution was at least better than DAII with Carver/Bethany.

Why is not this thread pinned? lol RIP It was pinned, until Alec died within the first twenty minutes of the game... Not really much point in having a thread for a character that isn't going to see more development in the future.

The whole scene where Alec died was poorly done. I didn't see a reason why Scott/Sara and Alec could not of shared the helmet until the shuttle had arrived. Then there was a disconnect between what had just happened, and Scott/Sara's reaction to it. Your dad just died saving you, and all you have to say is "he died a hero" as if you were talking about someone you were just reading about in the news? There should of been a small scene halfway through the story where Scott/Sara took a minute to go to the bathroom, and either ball, or go into a fit of rage, something someone who was real would do after losing the person that raised him/her

I'll agree there was not enough emotional weight to the scene or the aftermath of what happened, and that it's strange they didn't have some kind of backup breather in case of critical equipment failure, but the idea of them passing the helmet back and forth was never going to work. The air was too toxic and from what it seems, the only reason Ryder survived was because SAM was transferred over.
It was always going to be that outcome for us to become Pathfinder. I just really, really wish they had done better with the writing to let us feel it, especially since we as the player have very little emotional connection to "dad" to start with. :/

Me and Ash (You probably don't know or don't remember Ash) had a thought.
And we came up with two different theories. We both agree that SAM was meant to stay in the Ryder family, but mine says Cora was originally intended to be the actual successor, with one of the twins being in line after her before Habitat 7 happened. The siblings would get a lot of Pathfinder training from Alec and be ready to take up the mantle. SAM would, for the duration of Cora's lead, shut down and act as any other SAM until resuming full potential upon sibling promotion.
Ash, however, thought that he was always going to skip Cora in favor of siblings. Definitely not that soon, but eventually. Had the helmet not broken, the conscious sibling would likely make the successor after Alec would give them enough knowledge, probably making it up to Cora somehow.
Whaddya all think?

I think the second is more likely. Cora was always meant to be a placeholder until the sibs was qualified to succeed him, but if it was the first one... good luck explaining it to Cora when a Ryder Jr takes over when she herself is still fit to work. Of course it would always be the case, but it would be harder if she already had the position fore some time. To be fair, seeing how Alec was notorious for not being a people person, I wouldn't be surprised.

So, I've finally started my New Game + playthrough! (It took me forever to find a Sara face that I liked. Sorry, squirrel, I mean tangent)
Something struck me as kind of odd about Alec's death. We never see the body. We never find out what he was saying before Ryder passes out. Even Dr. Carlyle doesn't really confirm his death. He just changes the subject (yes, I know oxygen deprivation is a horrific way to go). Finally, the look on Cora's face. Cora's look could be interpreted a couple of ways: 1, she hates giving bad news or 2, she's hiding something. It doesn't all add up to me.
Maybe I'm grabbing onto straws because I hated seeing character potential like his being wasted in the first hour of the game. I'm curious as to everyone else's thoughts.

Oh. Maker. Please let Alec be dead. At least I hope they take his body with them, because the SAM should not be left behind. To dangerous this is why I Rescue the Salarian Pathfinder. SAM is to important and Scott is the big brother of him. He has to care about him.

I went back this morning and completed the triggers quest and.... wow. That was unexpectedly awesome. You were right Tarkus , we did get to hear his last words on Habitat 7. At least we could potentially get one Ryder back. Not quite Alec but still interesting for ME:A2.

After doing at least one playthrough with each sibling, I found it amusing that they both got a different version of how Alec and Ellen met. Either Alec embellished things when he shared his version with Scott, or Ellen never actually told him that she saw through his bad boy act.

I have a theory! I have a lot of those... I thought of something that's pretty cool that I would love to share! Basically, Alec likes artificial intelligence and Jien Garson is apparently fairly eccentric. Which got me thinking about something... What if on the Quarian Arc (or on another (smaller) sleeping pod vessel that shirked by protocol by following the arcs into dark space), Alec and Jien brought along depowered geth? It sounds crazy, especially before the introduction to Legion. However, I could see Alec looking into the history of the Quarian and Geth conflict and getting hints of the Geth Collective and how it works. What if Alec had plans to have the Geth powered by a variation of SAM? This would lead to a lot of conflict due to Milky Way hostilities toward Geth programming. However, Efra could attempt to utilize them to battle the Kett without Resistance casualties. Would Ryder refuse to lose them, underutilizing them? Or would you have to talk down Efra from throwing the Geth into quasi-servitude by a new species. There were some hints about a conflict like this in game- with the quest in Podromos.
