Alec Ryder 'DadRyder' (Official Thread)

Is this all 3 Ryders? I'm stoked that we can all be together even though it is probably only for a little while.

Ryder asks SAM if trying to use the Remnant device caused what happened to their father. SAM comments that this was because he tried to connect directly to the atmospheric processor, which proved "extremely hazardous".

Wouldn't you think that a talented engineer would know not to plug himself directly into an unknown device of alien origin, without first knowing what it does or how exact it works? Ryder at least tried to use a control panel (since UI aren't typically designed to be lethal) before being warned off by Peebee.

Seems a little daft if that's the reason Alec is killed or incapacitated, since it would be a bit of a rookie mistake?

Of course, the situation on Hab 7 could have been dire since they did apparently run into some trouble with the Kett when the landed. Perhaps the circumstances forced him to throw caution to the wind, hoping he could turn off the Remnant device that was terraforming Hab 7, only for his gamble not to pay off?

He still might. Just because our character may think he is dead doesn't mean he is actually dead.

Looks like Alec was dishonorably discharged for his AI research, and while they don't scroll down to show all the text it sounds like this might have had an effect on the twin's careers.

Sounds like they might have had to go through what Ashley did.

And I'm sort of just guessing at it affecting their careers since it cuts off, but since it starts right after it talks about her career up to that point and the 'internal memos' it seemed like that might be what it was heading to.

From what I've heard, we have some option to pick Ryder's background prior to joining the Initiative.

If Alec was blacklisted, that might be Ryder (at least the one on the stream) mentions to Suvi that they spent time guarding the Mass Relay, but were never able to venture to the other side. Obviously guarding and patrolling the Relays are vitally important for defense, but it's probably not the assignment you'd hope to get upon enlistment.
