I really enjoyed both of these interviews myself, though Tom's was more interesting on account of the interviewers asking better questions and having a better rapport with him. And I agree that fresh talent is good. All the veteran actors mentioned are great, but I love hearing new voices. And I really like what we've heard from both Fryda and Tom so far in the trailers and such. What I took away from Fryda's interview is that she's really passionate about her job, and she gets it in terms of what it means to play a protagonist - on the one hand, she's our blank canvas, but on the other when she reacts it has to be real. The fact that she puts so much of herself into the emotional scenes to where they completely exhaust her is awesome. Makes me very excited to hear what she brings to the game. I really don't know where people are getting that she just sees it as a job. If anything, she jokes about how she was in denial the whole time because there's no way she landed such an amazing gig. Tom just sounds like a cool guy in general, and he's ONE OF US But... leaving Tali on the Normandy all the time!? Doesn't he know that Tali and Garrus, are, like, the dream team when it comes to supporting a biotic player? And also that she's awesome? Hmph! Anyway, overlooking the fact that he clearly played the trilogy wrong I love that I'll still get to hear him in the game as my character's brother (I only play the female protagonist if I have a choice - though that might change this time so I can see them switch roles if the sibling is important enough, I dunno). Loved Tom's little anecdote about how they were both all - 'oh my god I"m doing this amazing thing but I can't tell you!' and it turned out to be the same one. So awesome

I am not enthusiastic about either candidate. First time for everything but I think Bioware missed the mark on good lead VA's this time around hope I am wrong since it is a great part of the games atmosphere. Tom is at least a gamer like Mark Meer, Elias Toufexis, and David Hayter. Frydda was in the gaming development industry before being an actress. I'm sick of Troy Baker, Nolan North, And Laura Bailey being in every game. I would have preferred them being our protagonist rather than what we got. Other than Clancey Brown, I don't have good feelings about anyone they have casted for this game.

Other than Clancey Brown, I don't have good feelings about anyone they have casted for this game. So far I'm meh about Ryder from the interviews. Taylorson could be interesting as a Nathan Drake/Indiana Jones type of character with boyish charm who has to improvise a lot. I can easily enjoy such a character. LOVED the cel-shade Prince of Persia for Xbox 360. Of course that would require Bioware to write Ryder a certain way, provide a lot of situational comedy. Taylorson's voice does not sound particularly intriguing to me. I expect him to shine with witty dialogue, though. His interview was fun to listen to. There's a big difference to me between a voice that is captivating/iconic by itself and actors whose charm lies more in the quirky delivery of jokes and banter. If that's making any sense? Imo they require different scripts. Meer and Hale were good for the iconic gravelly voice battle-hardened soldier. The pathfinder is going to be very different. So it makes sense to me for Bioware to bring on the Indiana Jones charm in an exploration game. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I'm more worried about Wolff, so far I have no idea what to expect from her, and find her voice slightly grating in the interview... which of course says little about how she works with voice pitch on the job. Some people sound way less amazing in interviews than as the characters they voice. I'm keeping an open mind about her. Peebee's got a great voice actress. I only realized yesterday Christine Lakin voiced Jane in Telltale's Walking Dead. YES!!! As unhappy as I was with the inquisitor, the companion voice cast was a delight. So I expect nothing less of MEA. Ryder on the other hand... it all probably depends on the script and direction. We'll see!

Those actors are the reasons that the original ME cast are legendary. The voice acting creates such a feeling of immersion that no matter how badass the character is or cool their background is you can lose it all with the wrong voice or acting direction. Can any imagine Garrus with a different voice? I agree of the two, Wolff is more the wild card. Hopefully we see more soon!

Does the world really need more Troy Baker right now? Yes. I wouldn't mind if either one ending up voicing a companion, or some other major character. There is a reason why both Troy Baker and Laura Bailey get a ton of work: They're both among the best VAs in the business. I'd rather a talented actor that has been in 64 other games get cast than some hack who is barely good enough for community theater. Just to be clear since this thread is about Tom Taylorson & Fryda Wolff, that last comment wasn't directed at either of them.

Works for me.
I think Tom will be the more interesting voice over between the two in the end. He seems to be having a lot more fun with it, although it could just be the interviews being vastly different.

My normal reaction would be "Wow, you can accurately make Sam Jackson in Mass Effect!" but instead it's more like wow, you can actually make a human-looking human as your Shepard after all.

Hm... I find it interesting that there are emotional scenes with FemRyder.... which may be viewed as a story clue. From a plot speculation I can see her when she gets the news her dad died. Also, a possible scene when her lover dies or her brother dies. I don't see any other scenario where Fryda needs to act out other emotional scenes. Can anyone think of other possible instances?

Only listened to the first 20 minutes of each for now. Pretty cool stuff, will finish them eventually. Thanks for putting those up.
And Tom Taylorson totally does sound like Nolan North. It's frigging uncanny.

I am really looking for playing as a male character this time, maybe even with my first round. I played as male Shepard only once in my playtroughs because I couldn't get over his stoicness in the first Mass Effect, where I think Jennifer Hale was the best. But now I got a very good looking (natural, not too much model-like) male protagonist with a fantastic voice actor. I will of course run with Sis Ryder too (brothers and sisters in one game - even more fantastic).

I might go for male first this time too. I always played female first in all Bioware games and was super happy with it (except for DAI), Hale is so much better than Meer in my book.
Which is just as well because I've been very underwhelmed by the romance options for straight female. Even before listening to the interviews I was set on either playing male or lesbian to avoid all these awful drama romances. So male it is then, I guess.

I'm always playing male (my first female was on DAI just for Solas) but Tom oh boy Tom put playing male on a totally different level. His voice is very likeable and I'm very looking forward to play a pragmatic-witty character.

He absolutely killed ME3. In the beginning, FemShep was Shepard, for me. Now, I can barely play her. That's not entirely due to VA-work, but that's a big part of it. Unless I see something in the character creator that gets me super excited to play as Sara first (good hair and skin, finally?), I'll likely make my first character a BroRyder. I really enjoyed Tom's interview. This guy is legit, and would likely have more big credits to his name had he not been living in the Midwest most of his life. We see what happened as soon as he moved to LA.

We see what happened as soon as he moved to LA. No, thanks. I carried paragon and renegade dudeShep through ME1+2 and the renegade through ME3. And that terrible unemotional voice never grew on me. He's the worst male VA in a Bioware game ever to me. I find his voice that terrible, yes. Both the voice itself and the acting. I will say though that Meer is fitting for a full psycho renegade. Playing paragon I felt like a total creep romancing Tali. Ugh. We will not speak of the crime against humanity that was femShep sexing up Jacob. That's top of my list of worst things in the trilogy, I put the endings BELOW that in second place. Third is Kai Leng. I fully blame the voice direction, though. Hale was amazing as Shepard.

Fair enough. You should've felt like a creeper romancing Tali. That's not Meers' fault. She was barely more than a child, and had just told you (on her loyalty mission) that smelling a flower unfiltered could kill her. The Tali romance is the "Creeper Arc". (Yes, I just said that. I'm sure my real life age plays some role in my perception, but it's totally creepy.) We have Weekes and his liberal views on fan-service to thank for the dialing back of the quarian immune response, for Tali's silly presence aboard Normandy in ME3, and several other weird things. He's a good writer, but I'm not sorry he's gone from ME. I do worry, a bit, for DA. Will it become a total fan-service parade? Hale uses the same sexual harrassment voice with James in ME3 that she does with Jacob in ME2. She often heavily over-acts lines in the series. It was so bad by the end of ME3 that I could barely handle her anymore. Everyone has their preferences.
