The Daily Fail: Novice Solo-ers Support Thread (Now with less fail!)

The map has always been Giant and I've tried several Soldier class kits using different guns, Harrier, GPS, and so on. Been trying to do it with Reapers for the most part as well. I like the Soldier class the most and I've been trying them with that class.

Tried 2 more times after I posted:

#3)Fail: Wave 8 out of my dumbassery again. Got surrounded and taken out.
#4)Fail: Wave 10 doing devices again. Got snuck up on and died quickly.

Then I got this on the next one:

Giant/Reapers
Krogan Soldier/Geth Plasma Shotgun/Carnifex
Survivor Loadout/Shogun AmpIII/Incendiary IV/Cyclonic IV


How I did this I don't know, but I got very lucky I'll say that much for sure. Did this late Sunday night and the first one I told was Ernie right after I got it done. I wasn't going to post it because I pretty much did it for me, but he encouraged me and said I should post it somewhere so I am. I know this wasn't the best kit, I know the time sucks as well, but there it is I guess. It's my first one and I told him I'm not doing another one, this will probably be my last. After I was done I was a nervous wreck and had a bad headache. Took way too long but I didn't quit and kept going since I was still alive and kept finishing waves.

Basically I did a lot of running around...LOL Running for my life most of the time. Wave 3 I got a hack...it was right by extraction in the bunker where I was standing by. Got most of it done before they showed up and did a circle around the map and finished it off. Wave 6 I got pizzas. 1st one was down on the lower end, ran after it and brought it up the ladder through the bunker and finished it. The 2nd one was in the control room, I ran to it and brought it back pretty much the same way. Made it to Wave 10 and got devices. Up to that point I was lucky, now I was pretty aggravated when that came up. But I got pretty lucky with those as well. 1st one was in the bunker...right beside me. Finished it quick and ran to the 2nd one which was down on the lower end. Got it done and the 3rd was in the control room. Got it done quick and just in time when they showed up.4th one was right in the middle of the map....no way I could do that one in a hurry. Ended up kiting them around the map and running back real fast to finish it off. Very lucky with these...very. Managed to finish off the wave as well.

Wave 11....I was dead for sure I thought. Was in the control room where I finished off the last of them. Right where I wanted to be. I held them off the best I could but almost got surrounded again. At this point I started using missiles to clear a path and made a run for extraction. Had to use my remaining missiles in the extraction zone to stay alive, which somehow I did! Hid beside the bunker doorway and hoped for the best and I made it. I was so glad...LOL.

So there it is...and it was nerve wracking for me. Like I said I'll probably not do another one. It was not fun for me at all. I'll stick to team play from now on! I drank several beers after that run. Just wanted to prove to myself I could do it, so I got that one out of my system.

Even after all that, a little bit later I played some good games with other BSNers and had a lot more fun!

I can't seem to get kill streaks. When do you guys use missiles to sped up gold solos? Collectors and Cerberus only.

I try to misfile wave 5 spawn, but every time the centurion or atlas smoke grenade fucks it up. Do you missile Targets? Because sometime you get nemesis as targets, and it's real frustrating.

This is totally on topic, not hijacking. This thread is about supporting soloers regardless of difficulty.

But it does bring up another question. It was not my intention to take the attention from HowYummy's solo thread. What do you think should be done? Should I ask to have this thread absorbed into that one? Should we just let this lie fallow after all the declared soloers have met their goals? Or something else? I could narrow the focus to first time plat solos, but that seems kind of offputting. Like we're a bunch of elitist douchebags (which we are not).

Wave ten fail. This episode of fail is brought to you by tag team combat drone rape. I seriously would like to find every sorry sob that bitched about these being underpowered when they didn't have incinerate before.

It's not so much about getting kill streaks to speed things up, but to deplete a good amount of the wave budget. For example a kill streak out of 5 troopers does not help as much as a kill of only 2 atlases. Basically and most of the time you try to kill the double bosses with as much other units you can get. Check the wave breakedown for which waves that are.

For more in-depth information especially regarding Cerberus I'd recommend the speedrun breakdown from Heldarion containing tips which spawn is worth nuking and which is not.

For nuking targets it depends on which wave and which enemy faction. For example W6 Reaper it's not worth the nuke, because you get brutes and should(!) be able to kill them fast enough. Some interesting info about switching the target to something weak by nuking the first target here.

One of the reasons I am so terrified of platinum. . You cannot avoid primes and hunters. Both give me nightmare even on gold. And they dish out lot of damage on platinum. Specially prime turrets.

Plat Primes on Giant (or on any large, open map).... *shudder*

I appreciated the advice from earlier about learning to perfect each wave. It seems to be paying off outside the objective waves, I just need to be more patient.

You're still at one digit failed attempts? I think I've passed three digits a long time ago... AND THE SHIT IS STILL THERE!

As for your amps do some harvesting even by pugging and replenish your supplies.
