Day 7 Attempt 7: Giant/Reapers TSent Arc Pistol/Falcon Geth Scanner, Pistol Amp III, Incendiary IV, Cyclonic IV Wave 10 fail because I was too impatient and couldn't kite the primes away from the path of the escort (from bottom spawn to top ladder ammo box). Downed 3x and ran out of gel (though one death saved me from a banshee sync kill). Died 10 feet away from the finish line. I didn't know whether to be happy or cry! Time: 95:54 Consumables at time of death: 2 rockets, no gel, 2 ops packs, 6 thermal clips. Objectives were W3 Escort (kited once) and W6 Targets. I rocketed 4x and didn't miss, so: progress! Wave 9 was not as bad as I was expecting because Falcon, though I stupidly got ambushed by husks and phantoms at least 3X each. I really should not have made it as far as I did. And guess what, I successfully used an ops pack to escape a phantom sync kill on W8! I didn't even know I had done it until I saw the feed said "Shinobu taken down by Phantom" or whatever and I was still standing! (I don't remember falling down, but I was freaking out so may have missed it.) Thank you, Techno! I'll probably never do it again, but it worked at least the once! And now I'm out of pistol rail amp 3's so need to buy some packs. Small advice on dealing with targets, Reapers wave 6 is just like Cerberus wave 6 a bit more relaxed as you don't need to deal with Phantrolls or Banshees. There is one major advantage with wave 6 Reapers, target switching. If you get wave 6 targets nuke the first spawn and make sure that you kill both the Atlas and some of the other units at the same time, targets 2-4 will then be a different unit (usually a Ravager) which are much easier to kill. When I did my first solos I always saved 4 nukes for wave 10 due to that wave 10 targets can be very difficult without missiles.

^I personally prefer adrenaline over cyclonics for plat solos with the Jugg (but with full health / shield, 5 in Hex Shield and 3 in Geth Turret).

Yeah, can also switch to a Guardian (which is the best).
I'm not 100% sure of this but I think that if you nuke Atlas+Ravager you get Ravager, if you nuke Atlas+Guardian you get a Guardian but if you nuke Atlas+Guardian+Ravager it will then only switch to a Ravager (not 100% sure of this but I think it works that way).

So why can I score 277k with a level 9 KroGuard, carry 3 sub 100k pugs, through the Thunderdome on Platinum, and yet cannot solo to save my life?

I probably am scribbier than you. I still have not tried the platinum, as my first goal is to do 30 min something gold-collectors solo with 20 headshots by wave 3 or 4. Else I think I am just not ready. Moreover I can only try on weekends as I have access to proper PC only on weekends. I can't play properly on laptops. Completed gold solo against collectors yesterday with embarrassing 54 min with TSent and incendiery4. Good thing is My TSent don't die easily even without CM. I ran power effciency and power amplifier.

Soloing is something completely different,no matter how skilled you are in the team games. It requres different strategy and gameplay, but once you used to solo, then you can do everything. In my opinion, soloing is the best way someone to become a better player. So i am sure that you are great player, but as i said soloing is a different thing.

That is exactly what patrickbateman told me after my first success with the Cabal: "soloing Platinum is quite an accomplishment in itself, the more people posting there the merrier!" So do it! As for the BoTB, I decided not wear it, on any platform, though I've solo-ed platinum on all platforms (well, except the WiiU) . I mean I've played with a lot of pugs who wear it though they obviously don't deserve it, while on the other end you have people, who more than deserve it, but don't have it, because they won't bother promoting. On a personal note, after playing with some of the best (on all platforms), I've decided the title is not for me. Yes, it does seem ostentatious to proclaim oneself "the best of the best." I'd prefer it said Veteran or something, because I don't really feel 1337 and don't want people thinking I can curry them or anything. But I do really like the banner. It inspired me to start doing challenge points and trying new kits just to get it. BotB doesn't mean much. Sure, some players deserve it, but just this weekend I beat a BotB Carrier TGI with my Phaeston Tsent. To his credit, I was hosting, but still. /shameless ego boost I don't know, maybe I'll give this whole plat soloing thing a whirl myself. Been considering it for some time and all the cool kids seem to be doing it Of course, given that both my gold solos were 40+ scrubberies, I'll probably take a scrubby way out and choose Reegar.

Alt banners tend to be better, especially alt banners that aren't BotB. Heartbreakers are either goofballs or the deadliest players out there.

A miserable fail to contribute to this glorious thread. Stabbed by a supposedly stunlocked phantom. By the way the scorpion is such an amazing disruptor ammo primer, with 100% chance of priming. Edit : this was with the Slayer, you can imagine the number of glorious tech burst before that *#/?&!!! of a phantom interrupted it.

I started to try soloing gold again, partly bc of this thread and partly to get over the monotony of afternoon pugs, here are some things I've noticed so far. Fuck wave 10 devices and targets with a rusty pipe, I'm 0/6 because that's all I seem to get. I wish I could choose what objectives I want, I don't care what wave I get them just don't want those two any more and I don't blame PC players for taking that shit out. I get tunnel vision or move around the map too quickly at times causing me to get pinched, not good. Other than a wave or two where I burn through a few gels it isn't too bad, just have to remember I'm the only target and forget that at times.

Another wave 9 wipe. On Giant / Reaper no less, slightly embarrassing, especially as I got the control room hack in both 3 & 6. I didn't play very well, cost myself several consumables by not retreating from bad positions; all the years of pugging and having agro shields around me has given me some bad habits.
Took 32 mins. I hate Geth Hunters, I cannot believe how a unit that is not really a threat in Gold becomes such a problem in Platinum.

The thing is, Gold solos are a laugh and a breeze, I can sub-40 with most kits in the game and have a good waves survived percentage. I agree that soloing is a different skill, but I guess soloing Platinum is again a different skill.
I am a scrub solo Platinum player. I am an elite off-host team player. I guess for a co-op game, I am OK with that, but my inability to translate Gold success to Platinum in the solo department is a major pain in my ass 😫

Don't give up! If you really want to get it done it will happen sooner or later.
Yes, getting bad objectives can really ruin the soloing experience if you keep getting them frequently, for my part it feels like I'm getting devices and objectives in at least 80% of all the gold and platinum solos I complete and fail, some days I just want to give it up completely but I just keep coming back thinking that next attempt will be better and it will only have good objectives.
This game were designed for team play, not really for soloing, if there were no objectives like devices and targets it would be a bit to easy from the primary team play perspective.
And only a few PC players actually hack the game for excluding certain objectives, I've almost done 300 platinum solos and I don't really know how many gold solos without ever touching the game code (as it wouldn't give me any personal satisfaction to complete it by "cheating"). If you look at the quickest soloers like TTT or The Doctor, only a small percentage of their solos are modded as they try to set new speed records, but the absolut majority of them were done by grinding solos over and over for the perfect run.
So don't give up, bad objectives and grinding is part of soloing, but sooner or later if you keep going you will get that good run with good spawns and objectives.

The bad objectives definitely blow for sure and are very deflating, especially in the Claymore SI solo I was doing. For some reason too, I feel the need I HAVE to sub-30 for whatever reason and that is also part of the problem. I start rushing and making poor decisions leading to dumb deaths and positions where I unnecessarily use equipment. For whatever reason I don't do this in team games, even pugging, where my positioning and movement is on point.

This is, exactly how I feel. When you play aggressively in solo's and try to vary the gameplay by moving around (because in your mind you "feel" that you're camping) you overextend, get spawned on, surrounded and downed. And once you're downed, getting up can be stupidly frustrating.

And that's FUCKING boring, because we are used to moving, dodging and being all over the place in team games. It's about dealing with wave budgets and kiting as needed. Platinum is a pain in the ass BC your get a lot of bullet sponge enemies and pain in the ass enemies. Hell the first time I soloed platinum I had made damn notes for every wave. I knew what enemies I wanted to concentrate on to deplete the budget which waves I wanted to force a spawn and nuke it. I focused on getting better at one thing every solo and my team play improved as well. You notice a lot of enemy tendacies and stuff while soloing even bronze. Lol of course with just picking this back up with a two year layoff from gaming at all, I find myself at scrub level now. Actually I've always been a scrub so I guess it's subscrub level now. I would just focus on getting solid on each wave in platinum. Bs happens and if you get emotional or just get fucked into a bad position on platinum things go to hell in a hand basket quick.
