Wasn't ME3 released on March 21st, 2012?

The only thing that makes me think this might not be the release date is that it's so close to the end of the financial quarter. I would expect they'd want a little more breathing room for a major release like this. As goishen points out, ME3 was released early in the month, and that's where I feel MEA would more logically arrive (say, March 7th).

We'll see!

It's possible this is just a placeholder since we are still 6 months away from this date.
But considering the game is being worked on for quite some time i don't see a reason for any delay.

Being that we're ~6 months out, they would likely already have a date in mind for when it's going to be released even if they haven't directly told us what that date is.

I could be wrong with books but my understanding is that most retailers will list December 31 as the release date if they aren't given one by the publisher. The fact that this one is specifically being listed as March 21, 2017 makes it sound like a decent bet on that being the date. Especially since it wasn't exactly a date viewable by just anybody, so it seems like they aren't just throwing a date up there "just cause" as I've seen some retailers do.

Wanting the release of the game and the art book to line up also does make a lot of sense as they did with Inquisition. There's a good chance the art book will contain some story critical elements in it, so at the very least you'd want the book to come out after the game if the dates didn't line up.

At the very least, it's a better estimation than anything else we currently have.

There are very few exceptions to this rule when it comes to video games. The most common being horror games on Friday the 13th of whatever month.

Considering it's not the classic placeholder date and they keep saying the game will be released around that timeframe, it's highly possible it's the actual release date.
We'll find it soon enough in any case.

Interesting, hoping that it is the actual date as I need to book time off from work, just wondering if the UK will keep to its Friday releases or move to Tuesdays as it has been doing more so recently.

IMO N7 day will start the marketing and the preorders of the game.

it's not that uncommon for the developers to know their release date 6 months in advance, especially if all of the major systems are already locked down and working with only minor changes still being added to the game. BW is an experienced enough developer to know how much time they would need once all the important elements are in the game. as for the Last Guardian, that's pretty much a unique case of switching from one generation of consoles to the other, going though major changes of systems and mechanics. can't really compare it to MEA.

Another reason it might be pushed later into the month is to give it some breathing room from some of the major releases mid-late Feb.: For Honor, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Halo Wars 2...

Someone just informed me that 3/21 is 3... 2... 1... launch!

I expected a March release date because it'd mark 5 years since ME3 released, if March 21st is the release date well then hopefully it sticks.
