MarilynRobert: In my most recent ME2 run (that I just finished a the other day) I flirted with Kelly quite a bit. It'll be obvious what's the point of no return for her becoming a true love interest. You won't have it happen accidentally, at least not if you keep up on your messages. FYI, Kaidan doesn't have a drone. Drones are only for engineers. Kaidan is a sentinel. Tali had a drone.

I'm getting very close to the Horizon mission kicking in so these posts are extremely helpful. My Shep is saying loyal to Kaidan so should I avoid asking Kelly and Jacob to tell me about themselves? Kelly seems to be waiting to jump on a flirt (reminds me of Lelianna in DAO)and I don't like how Shep acts when she asks Jacob about himself because she sounds like she's flirting. I have a drone and didn't even know what it was (didn't pay attention to Kaidan's drone in ME1, I guess) so this thread has helped me there and I'm going to go read more about it now. ETA: I had never looked into playing the ME trilogy before because I'm lousy at shooting games and also because I really dread and dislike games where your crew mates can get killed. I'm fumbling along with the shooting part and I'm trying not to get too attached to anybody so I can act all stoic-like if they die. Flirting with Kelly doesn't mean you'll be disloyal to Kaidan. Not flirting with her can cause a few deaths of the aquatic variety... since she won't look after your fish if you don't flirt with her... even as a FemShep
Just don't invite her up to your cabin after the Suicide Mission

I've never been less prepared to understand a game than when I started playing ME1 and I hardly know what is going on sometimes. I love this thread because all of you are answering some questions I didn't even know I had. ETA: Off to flirt with Kelly so I can prevent more deaths (but no romance with Kelly)

Space Boo is a survivor. You will have to find him in ME3, however, if you import.
The first time I went back to my cabin and all my fish were dead I almost cried. Now I obsessively feed them after every mission so the only thing they are in danger of dying from is overeating.

Have you ever managed to keep them all alive by feeding them right through the ME2 end game? I haven't.

Yep, otherwise Kelly won't have any fish to give you in ME3. My biggest problem there is forgetting to flirt with her enough to get the dinner and fish feeding offer, so I have to buy new fish in ME3 anyway.

I have to reconsider that... I always thought I lost them by doing either LotSB or Overlord after purchasing fish... thinking the game must consider those to be more than 1 mission even though it doesn't allow you to return to the ship between the options it gives you to select a new squad... must be that I just forgot to feed them.

I'm pretty sure the game considers those both to be just 1 mission, even though there are multiple stages. Same thing with Omega DLC in ME3.

When I chose to play the broker or overlord dlc, I made sure to feed the fish before starting dlc. They were still alive when dlc was completed.

Man, I had completely forgotten about having to feed fish in ME2 and that you could outsource the job to Kelly from flirting with her(been ages since I played ME2).

I took several trips to Shep's cabin before I even realized I had a fish tank. I just went, "oh, glowy blue space shit. Cool. Oh look, I can change the radio station," and moved on. In any case, I think fish are creepy, so I'll take a pass on that. I was looking at ME3 on Origin and saw that there are currently two versions. One is just the game, while the other comes with one DLC and a bunch of other extras (a weapon and armor set, an art book, etc). What is the name of the Trespasser analogue for ME3? I know it's pretty much essential to not be pissed off by the vanilla ending, but I don't know why so please don't spoil it for me. I just want to know what it's called so I can get it. Thanks Samara's (and Thane's) recruitment does send you back to the ship. The time thing can seem daunting (I was completely unaware the first time I played) but don't worry too much. Like UpUpAway said, you can continue playing after the Suicide Mission (similar to DAI (careful, though, it's still wise to prepare as much as you can)) so don't feel too pressured to do all of the side-missions beforehand if you want to take your time -- you will have freedom time-wise after the Collector Ship mission. The squad recruitment/Loyalty Missions are the only ones that need to be done before the Suicide Mission. I think they become unavailable afterward. Since I just tend to roll with the time limits I don't really have any recommendations for missions (plus I can never remember which upgrades are where. ) I will say that I'm also somebody who prefers to do Arrival dlc after the Suicide Mission for story reasons. And just a general note of advice: always keep saves, just in case. I keep a save before doing a mission so I can backtrack for whatever reason if I need to, like what happened with Grunt. Thanks for clearing that up as well. I was afraid of that... but couldn't remember precisely. dragontartare - With Samara and Thane's recruitment missions taking you back to the ship automatically, I don't see any way for you to get a 9th squadmate if you do more than 5 missions before getting your 8th (which is your intent). So I would continue with the original plan if you want your Shepard to be as upgraded as possible before triggering the Collector Ship mission - That is, do all the loyalty missions that trigger (there should be 7 in all including Zaeed's which should already be on your Galaxy Map as a label "Help Zaeed.") I would buy the Star Charts at Baria Frontiers on Illium (which will open up some new clusters on your Galaxy Map, giving you access to some N7 side missions). Do some of those, but leave 1 or 2 for after the Suicide Mission (i.e. after the formal end of the game). LotSB is a great DLC, as is Arrival. Both are very worthwhile storywise... LotSB in particular if... you romanced Liara in ME1. To me, it doesn't matter whether you do either one before or after the Suicide Mission. The story generally works either way and the story works OK even without them. We all have our preferences though. My recommendation of doing LotSB during this 5-game trigger sequence was purely for having Shepard as upgraded as possible. It does count as a mission, but... but in your case, it would not trigger the Collector Ship since it does not give you a new squad mate. Particularly if you're not wanting a lot a spoilers, I really would just not worry too much about the order in which you play these missions. The game is very well written in that regard... it will work out pretty much no matter what order you do things in. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner as well (I'm an oldie and fell asleep early, early last night.) Thanks I intend to do all the loyalty missions, with Miranda's last since I can recruit two people from that same planet, and then do the Collector ship so people have their upgrades as much as possible. Then I'll do any other side quests that I still have left. For RP reasons, I like to have the minds of my crew a clear as possible. Hence, I like to do their loyalty missions in a way that's pleasing to them. Well, as pleasing as possible since I won't let Zaeed have his way. I also recruit as much as possible because I really don't know what I'm up against and want as many options as possible. It means having a large team but the odds of everyone surviving are slim. And I definitely do all the upgrades for my ship because it'll save lives. For DLC, I'll help Liara against the Shadow Broker mainly because I feel I owe it to her for doing something that led to me being alive. That said, if I don't help the outcome is the same so no loss as far as game mechanics go. For RP, I find Arrival absolutely necessary. The lead-in to ME3 is etched in that DLC, even though it won't change very much in ME3. Also, get a love interest, if not in ME2 then definitely in ME3. The world is about to end. Find a little piece of joy. I did buy Arrival. That's the only other DLC I intend to play this first time, but if I play again I will get Shadow Broker. It is obviously popular I'm getting very close to the Horizon mission kicking in so these posts are extremely helpful. I'm fumbling along with the shooting part and I'm trying not to get too attached to anybody so I can act all stoic-like if they die. Same here with the shooting games. Shep has only been "killed" by one enemy so far since it is so easy to just duck behind something until health and shields regenerate, but that's been on the easiest difficulty level

Oh balls, I have never bought the fishes or the hamster because as animal rights advocate I don't like animals in captivity, I tend to feel my characters as I was them, literally, but now I regret it, I missed so many and precious content! XDD Maybe in a second run. In DAO I didn't know that you could adopt the nug for Leliana, which I will do in another run, and wish I would have done in the first and canon run. dragontartare Extended cut, totally free! I did Garrus's loyalty mission and I love that even though I didn't personally witness their interactions in ME1, I could still feel their history together. Also, he finally allowed Shep to flirt with him, and I found the scene somehow hilarious (but in a good way). Given his reason for agreeing to sleep with Shepard at some point in the future, I think I will romance him rather than Jacob. Since I have flirted with both, I assume that this is like DA where at some point I will have to turn Jacob down and make it clear that Shepard prefers Garrus? It's odd...Jacob's personality completely disappeared under a mask of professionalism once the tutorial section of the game was over (which is too bad), and instead, I have been completely won over by this odd looking alien that I initially couldn't imagine wanting to romance. Grunt is pretty cool, too. Kind of Sten-like, except I never really liked Sten. I hope I won't end up having to kill him because he goes berserk or something ( But please don't tell me.)

Or you could just not talk to Jacob anymore. But seriously, if you don't continue to flirt (intentionally) with Jacob, it shouldn't come up at all. I say "intentionally" since for whatever reason they made femShep sound flirty even when just saying hello to him.
And yes, the initial scene with Garrus is pretty hilarious.

Then you'll get along fine with someone you encounter - provided you have the Citadel DLC for ME3. Space Hamster is a friend, though, so it makes sense to have him. Spoil it for me, who who? I assume Shepard place the little buddy in Anderson's apartament? It's kind of a big spoiler. It's not someone you've encountered. And you have to play almost all the way through Citadel DLC to see what I'm talking about with animal rights. Space Hamster, however, stays exactly where he belongs: Shepard's cabin.

I'd go with Garrus if it's a choice between Garrus and Jacob. The reasons why will make sense to you by the time you finish the trilogy.

Oh do I need to buy the fishes or the hamster to see that? I thought I played the Citadel dlc 100% so intrigued right now
