After raiding the Coop and getting Ash back on board, Jack made a quick return visit to the Citadel to catch up and dance with Lady Jack before she headed out to Tuchanka, or where ever the biotic barriers were needed. He also finished up some Medi-Gel issues in the Holding Areas before heading back to the Normandy, where he was stopped by an Alliance officer. The Normandy was being checked upon and repaired, by Hackett's orders. He had also given an order that Jack was to go to that apartment Anderson had been trying to offer him and get some R&R. Jack went willingly. If anything he might be able to get a natural sleep for once, since he'd been relying on heavy sleeping pills to get some shut eye on the Normandy. At the apartment he had a small chat with Anderson and found a message from Joker, to meet him at a fancy sushi place. While Jack was more hungry for a burger and a beer, he put on some casual clothing and headed out. Cheers! As for the DLC. Got quite a few head shots in the sneaky-sneak bit. Nothing mind blowing like last time, but still. Also managed to be a bit sneaky Usually it's just shoot in the air, run and hope the cutscene gets Shepard before the bullets do. Liara bailed Shepard out (since Lady Jack was on a shuttle to Tuchanka, otherwise she'd totally have saved his butt and made comments on his jacket) and she was taken to the Fundraiser as well (again, if Lady Jack had been available...). Mingled with the Ashland father and daughter. Had talked to the girl before, but hearing the whole dialog was quite amusing. Also talked to the Varren racer about Raw Krogan legs. Good thing Wrex wasn't around. Liara and Garrus were on team Shepard and except for the heavies, things went really well. A lot of bloody explosions all around. BTW Jacks neck and head looked so much better in that wide armor, changing to the slimmer armor was a huge fashion disaster. Cute Boo reference with Fuzzhead Jr. The battle afterwards was not as cute. Took many, many tries. But suddenly, success! Jack tried to save himself and failed, so he shot the bosses accomplice instead. That tiny sliver of Renegade on his bar had to come from somewhere. While the Sushi date and proceeding "R&R" was a bit more exciting than Jack would have wanted he did return to the Normandy feeling pretty calm. All it took was to call Mom and have a small chat. The calm effect probably worked both ways, so win win for Hackett. (And it was super adorable as well). Next Jack fulfilled his own paternal role by bailing out Grunt. Then it was time to get back on the Normandy and talk with those Quarians, who had been waiting ever so patiently. Jack took Garrus and Tali with him on the Geth Dreadnought. It went surprisingly well, with tech explosions for everyone! They ended up saving a robotic princes and while they flew back to the Normandy on a stolen fighter, Jack pondered what mission awaited him next. Garrus and Tali were too busy thinking about the turian chocolate they were going to enjoy once back on the Normandy.

Miriam Shepard helped Kasumi... Ordered the Normandy to Bekenstein in the Serpent Nebula to raid the mansion of crime lord Donovan Hock in order to recover the greybox (memory recorder) used by Keiji Okuda, Kasumi's partner whom Hock had murdered. Infiltrated the mansion by posing as a party guest. (Didn't care for the cocktail dress, but at least it didn't have Cerberus logos). Kasumi was denied admittance but came anyway using her tactical cloak. All other party guests appeared to be representatives of crime syndicates, including Blue Suns and Eclipse. Overheard conversations about Normandy team, specifically "Archangel" and Zaeed. Hock's vault was protected by voice recognition, DNA analyser and kinetic barrier. Disabled barrier, tricked voice recognition using a recording, obtained DNA sample from Hock's bedroom by sneaking in through a window. (Forced to neutralize Eclipse guards using M-3 Predator; woefully underpowered compared with M-5 Phalanx, but easy to conceal). Recovered greybox from vault; obtained two M-12 Locust submachine guns from Hock's private collection. Greybox recovery tripped silent alarm, summoning Eclipse unit. Fought past guards, exited vault to shuttle pad; Hock's gunship prevented rendezvous with Normandy shuttle. Neutralized gunship; no evidence that Hock ejected. Keiji's greybox contained stolen information that could discredit Alliance government officials; potential security risk, but also Kasumi's only memento of her partner. Kasumi willing to personally accept the risk of possessing it, so did not insist that she destroy it. Ordered Normandy to Omega Nebula to locate cargo freighter MSV Strontium Mule. Boarded vessel with Mordin and Thane, met by Blue Suns welcoming party. Neutralized them and investigated vessel; found bodies of murdered crew, and evidence of infighting and mistrust among Blue Suns pirates. Neutralized remaining pirates and secured stolen cargo. Miriam cleans up nicely. [Fond memories of Kasumi's mission from my first playthrough prompted me to save it for last, and I very much enjoyed it this time as well. Having unlocked assault rifles so early on, I didn't really need to unlock the Locust, so wasn't disadvantaging myself by leaving it so late. In my first playthrough, I think I got into Hock's room through the front door rather than through the window. My vanguard-fu was not strong during this play session, so mostly played a cautious, long-range game in both Kasumi's mission and the Strontium Mule assignment, waiting until I'd thinned the crowds considerably before getting stuck in with Charge. There were some nice opportunities for Shockwaving through obstacles though, and that's fun too I'll do Overlord, Shadow Broker and the remaining N7 missions before hitting the derelict Reaper to obtain the IFF.]

Soldier FemShep, cont'd:
The Normandy docked on Feros, and discovered that the Zhu's Hope outpost was under attack by the geth - Shepard, Tali and Liara were ambushed while being greeted by the colony representative. They were told to find a man named Fai Dan, so they made their way towards Zhu's Hope, dealing with geth along the way.
The situation at the outpost was grim - colonists, lacking real military training, were scared and demoralized by the constant get attacks. They were also short on food supplies and there were problems with the power grid and water delivery system. It reminded Shepard of Elysium during the Skyllian Blitz, and Shepard knew that once again she would have to try and rally colonists to help save their home.
Inside a re-purposed cargo freighter that was being used as a headquarters, Shepard discovered some logs detailing shipments of several months worth of human rations to a remote part of the Voyager cluster, even though there were no colonies or Alliance facilities out there that would require those levels of supplies. Shepard took a copy of the log so she could investigate when time permitted.
They finally found Fai Dan, the leader of the outpost, and, after fending off another geth attack, they were able to get an update on the situation. Neither Fai Dan nor his security chief Arcelia had any idea why the geth were attacking Feros. Exogeni Corp had funded the colony in exchange for access to any Prothean artifacts that were found, but they hadn't discovered anything of value. They suggested using the "Prothean skyway" to make their way to Exogeni headquarters to see if there were any clues there.
Before heading out, Shepard wanted to help secure the situation at Zhu's Hope. She couldn't just leave these people at the mercy of the geth, and there was also the safety of the Normandy docked nearby to worry about. Fai Dan asked Shepard to deal with a geth outpost in the tunnels beneath Zhu's Hope - they were using a transmitter to coordinate attacks on the colony. He also gave Shepard the names of the colonists working on the food, power and water issues they were having.
Shepard spoke to various colonists to learn what she needed to do to help secure the outpost and get it operational again. She also noticed some odd behaviour; for example, whenever she asked people for their impressions of the colony (to try and dig for clues as to what the geth might be after), people refused to answer and referred her back to Fai Dan. Hana Murakami, the last surviving crew member of the freighter (the Borealis), seemed to be monitoring something on a computer terminal, and became very agitated when Shepard asked about it. In the medical bay, they found Calantha and Hollis Blake. Calantha was in obvious distress, but Tali pointed out that she didn't seem to have any physical injury. Hollis claimed that it was just stress from all the attacks, but some of the things his said were very strange.
Shepard raised the issue of the colonists behaviour with Fai Dan, who also claimed that it was the strain caused by the situation they were in and asked Shepard not to "judge them harshly." Shepard wasn't trying to judge, she was just concerned and wanted to help, but decided to let the issue rest for the time being. Perhaps some answers would be found in the tunnels beneath Zhu's Hope.

Miriam Shepard completed some assignments... Traced the Blue Suns pirate cell that had captured the Strontium Mule to the planet Sanctum in Sigurd's Cradle. Detected Blue Suns communications signals originating from a disused mining facility; took Mordin and Kasumi to the surface to investigate. Landing party ambushed by Blue Suns troops; quickly neutralized them and entered the facility. Fought past moderate resistance through the mining tunnels and into an inner facility. Blue Suns captain Narom activated two YMIR mechs. Concentrated fire on one mech, destroyed it with a headshot, resulting explosion severely damaged second YMIR. Neutralized remaining mech, troops and Narom himself. Disabled communications system. Pirate threat to civilian transports now eliminated. Still in Sigurd's Cradle, received news of a batarian assault on a human colony's missile defence system. Ordered the Normandy to the planet Watson; took the shuttle to the missile station on Watson's moon Franklin, with Garrus and Samara as backup. Neutralized batarian terrorists (not affiliated with any syndicate) and activated missile kill code. Missile targeting residential district was aborted successfully; thousands of lives saved. Missile targeting automated industrial complex did not abort; colony will be evacuated due to destruction of infrastructure. Received intel regarding an Eclipse cache on Daratar in the Hourglass Nebula. Depot was unmanned but defended by three YMIR mechs programmed to destroy the cache upon detecting intruders. Infiltrated with Jacob and Jack; neutralized mechs using M-920 Cain and conventional weapons. Recovered 75% of cache contents. Detected communications from Helyme in the Crescent Nebula matching Eclipse communication protocols. Traced signal to a mine operated by Eldfell-Ashland Energy. Investigated with Thane and Kasumi; discovered that mine had been seized by Eclipse for use as a base. Fought through moderate resistance; found computer mainframe with encrypted data. Defended mainframe from remaining Eclipse forces while decryption in progress. [The battle with the two YMIRs in the first assignment took a few redos. Managing to headshot one mech and cripple the other in the explosion was a jolly satisfying way to win Couldn't do it again if I tried, I'm sure Notwithstanding a few unforced errors (autosave is my friend), this was a much better play session for vanguarding. The fourth assignment was particularly enjoyable.]

Jen, Jackie, Kim, and Erin Shepard hung around their new apartment and the Silversun Strip, enjoying time with their squaddies. Erin beat James' pull-up record.
Just the party left for each of them, then it will be time to hit Cerberus HQ. I should be able to finish all four playthroughs by the end of next weekend. Possibly my last playthroughs through the trilogy (even though I have a few things I would still like to do).

Busy day for Jack. Kicked butt on Rannoch and made peace between the two fighters. Then he got his butt kicked on Thessia, but still did fairly decently combat wise. Side mission wise he visited an Asari Monastery and did surprisingly well on the bottom floor. Samara's rash decision was halted once more. He also helped Riley with some fuel reactors, saved Grace Sato and got the Priiize. Also did a ton of deliveries at the Citadel, met up with his companions at several places and got the time capsule scene with Liara. Also got to see James tattoo for the first time. Usually he is the shadow man, but now he had light! The tattoo was kind of ehh, but the back itself looked really good. Jack ended his session at the Sanctuary entrance. Next session will probably wrap that mission up, get the remaining meet-ups at the Citadel and then start delaying the final mission by playing Sharon instead.

I have caught up on all the recruitment and loyalty missions with my Renegade Shepard. The only thing that I found disappointing so far is Jack's romance. Don't know why I did not expect that, but yeah, it is the whole lot of working our way really slowly through the trust issues. They did Kalyio's romance better imo. I wonder if I get through another play-through without getting a romance achievement! Unless Jack counts unlike Thane. Recruiting Mornith over Samara actually did not feel as dark-stupid as I expected. Not that fond of the idea that Mornith masquerades as Samara, but I am guessing at this point Bio was feeling the overload of material. Other than that, shooting Turian in Thane's mission (hostages are only valuable when we give a damn, kid) was pretty cool! His mission was much simpler with a Renegade. My Paragon was dancing around the mob boss forever, while all Mark had to do was to lean over and tell the guy: I am Specter, tell me what I need to know. And it worked. Woohoo! Then, again, why would not it work, seeing how Mark now can give a Sith Lord a run for his money:

I always wonder what Soldier FemShep's name is. I think it helps with getting into the posts. Fair enough... Karen Shepard, Soldier (Shock Trooper): Shepard, Tali, and Liara descended into the tunnels beneath Zhu's Hope. They killed the Alpha Varren, which would allow Davin Reynolds the chance to safely hunt other varren (once the geth were dealt with) to replenish the colonies food supplies. They also reactivated water valves to get the water flowing back into the colony again. A destroyed vehicle had some old power cells that were still functioning; Shepard grabbed them to give to May O'Connell in hope she could use them to get the power generator working. They also ran into another of the colonists in the tunnels. The conversation with the man convinced Shepard that there was definitely something going on that Fai Dan wasn't telling them; the man's behaviour was not normal, and it wasn't just stress and shock from the geth attack. While they were speaking to the colonist, two geth snuck up behind the party, but were eliminated before they could attack. They encountered more geth and three krogan guarding the transmitter at the end of another hallway; after a tough fight, the defeated all enemies and destroyed the transmitter. They returned to Zhu's Hope to let Fai Dan and the others know the results. Predictably, Fai Dan had little to say about the man in the tunnels - Ian Newstead - other than he was "very sick". Hopefully they would find answers to whatever was going on at Exogeni headquarters; Zhu's Hope should be secure for the time being. (As always happens to me in the tunnels, once again one of my squad-mates went completely buggy during this section. This time is was Liara, except instead of just standing in one spot and refusing to move, like normally happens, she decided to emulate Grunt and go charging into melee range and get destroyed. She even kept equipping a shotgun without me ordering her. It was really great in the transmitter battle where she raced into the room with the 3 krogan with predictable results. Fighting 3 charging krogan with no crowd control sure is fun - sorry Tali, you're awesome against synthetics and pretty good against humans, but when facing krogan you're not much help at all. Like I said, I always have bugs in this section, but I'd never seen this in umpteen playthroughs. Anyone else run into these kinds of problems in this part of the game?)

I've never had problems in ME1. Glad you got past it though. It's a NG+, and level 58 soldier Shep is pretty much unkillable, so the result of Liara going Cpl Jenkins on us was just to drag the fight out longer. It was more funny than frustrating. It's happened in every playthrough I can remember, but usually it's fairly innocuous - one squadmate standing in one spot and refusing to do anything or keep up with Shepard and the other companion. This is the first time I've seen one of them go crazy like that.

The companions freezing happens a lot for me too. I just backtrack until out of combat mode, quick save and then reload. That fixes the problem, and then I don't have to tackle those 3 krogan all by myself.

John Shepard:
Normandy SR-2: Private chat with Tali in my quarters so she could speak freely without the other admirals around. Even having fought by my side against Saren and the Collectors, she's still having a hard time and has the weight of her entire race on her back.
Rannoch: Had to take Tali with me on this mission to save Admiral Koris. I'm not keen on this guy since he put Tali on trial for treason a while back. However, he's the head of the civilian fleet and without that the quarians fall apart. Little chance of their race surviving. In any case, Koris didn't want to be saved. He preferred to save the civilians who were also on Rannoch. Problem is that without him the civilian fleet doesn't survive. It means sacrificing. Later, after he was safe, Koris recognized that it was the right call to rescue him.

Like I said, I always have bugs in this section, but I'd never seen this in umpteen playthroughs. Anyone else run into these kinds of problems in this part of the game?) Do you have any mods installed? I've never had any problems on Zhu's Hope at all. No mods installed - I rarely mod any game. (I did play around with the high-res textures mod at one point, but not on this PC.) melbella - I never thought to save and reload, that would have been an easy work around. I think I was too distracted watching Urdnot Liara charging around to think of it

As always happens to me in the tunnels, once again one of my squad-mates went completely buggy during this section. Anyone else run into these kinds of problems in this part of the game? I had that happen once on Feros as well, except it was on the skyway, and it was Tali that went insane instead of Liara. She used all her powers in rapid succession, then charged in like a Krogan (with predictable results, to borrow your phrase). So you know, she hacked a Geth, then sabotaged it, overloaded it, damped it, then charged headlong into a fight against a bunch of angry Geth. Good job Tali, you nincompoop.

John Shepard:
Argos Rho: Collected tech, a turian spec ops team, kakliosaur bones (I wonder if this is the same thing I found years earlier - the skull of an unidentified beast that had obviously been hunted), and fuel. I managed to avoid any Reaper confrontations.
Cyone: Assisted Captain Riley in reactivating fuel reactors. Their lack was keeping allied forces from refueling in this area, meaning we couldn't fight the Reapers here. Brought Kaidan and James along. Kaidan, because I always bring Kaidan, and James because as an N7 recruit it'd do him good to be around another N7 besides me.

Mark Shepard: (Vanguard/Colonist/War Hero)
Normandy SR-1: We were out around Alchera looking for geth. The Council had largely dismissed my claims about the Reapers and had me focusing on the foot soldiers as the main threat rather than the very powerful enemy they had out there. After all, if the geth had been powerful enough to create something like Sovereign we wouldn't be taking them down so easily.
We came under attack. Pressly thought it was the geth but it wasn't a ship design any of us were familiar with. Joker was smart enough that anything that could detect the Normandy while the stealth drive was engaged was a big threat. He began evasive maneuvers but the hits we took were bad enough that we had to abandon ship. Kaidan told me Joker wouldn't go and that he wasn't leaving either. I had to shift into the role of his CO - the tone of voice being the real key - to get him to evacuate everyone while I retrieved Joker.
It didn't take much to persuade Joker that he couldn't save the ship and that he'd just die with it if he stayed. Convinced, I helped him to an escape pod as the enemy ship came around for another shot. I managed to get Joker's pod off but couldn't get into one myself. My suit was also damaged and air was escaping fast. As the last of my air dissipated my only regret was that I wouldn't get to hold Kaidan again.
Unknown: I woke up in a lot of pain. Then nothing.
When I next woke up I still hurt but a woman's voice was urging me to get moving. There were alarms. The facility was under attack by mechs gone wild. The woman directed me to a gun and my N7 armor. The floors of this place were covered with a symbol I didn't recognize. Must be from whoever saved me.
Fought my was through the facility. Saw a lot of people getting killed by mechs. Couldn't save them. The woman's voice kept telling me to move forward, that I couldn't save them. Found a video log talking about my reconstruction. The woman in the video had the same voice as the one that was guiding me. An audio log in the voice I'd heard that first time I woke up said they had spent over four billion credits on me. Who even has the kind of money? No one springs to mind.
Came across a still living person who was fighting mechs. I lent a hand. He talked to me like he knew me, which was weird. He also told me that I'd been dead. I'm not sure if that was dead dead or just "died on the operating table for two minutes" dead. I'm assuming the latter since dead dead isn't known for coming back - except as husks. He also mentioned something about two years but I'm not sure I was ready to hear that.
The place was Project Lazarus and the only goal of it was to bring me back just as I had been TWO FREAKING YEARS AGO. It wasn't an Alliance facility and this guy - Jacob Taylor - was evasive about who had bankrolled all of this. I also learned that most of the Normandy crew survived except for some serving on the lower deck and, of all people, my XO, Pressly. Liara, Joker and Kaidan all made it to safety though Jacob couldn't say what had become of them.
After hooking up with and healing Wilson, Jacob dropped a bomb. He told me the funding for the Lazarus Project was Cerberus. Here's what I remember about these guys: They created husks. They created Thorian creepers. They killed Admiral Kahoku. These guys were mad scientists and never up to any good. I wasn't in any position to argue with them now, but later we'd have words.
Then we met Miranda Lawson, the woman who had been saving my life for two years now. The first thing she did was shoot Wilson in the head. She said he was a traitor and behind the mechs. Plausible, given that Jacob had earlier mentioned how a guy from the Bio Wing shouldn't have had mech security clearance. I accompanied Jacob and Miranda off the station to meet with their boss, the mysterious Illusive Man.
Came face to face with the Illusive Man, or a hologram of him. Bastard won't meet anyone if he thinks there's risk involved. I'm not sold on him but he claims to want to fight the Reapers. He also said entire human colonies have gone missing. Then he gave me a mission to check on Freedom's Progress, the latest colony to disappear. I guess I don't lose anything by investigating.

I left the game in a confused state today.
First, Mark got the IFF off the delerict Reaper along with the IKEA-manufactured Geth, but the journal tells him to keep going on recruitment and N7 sidequests. I am guessing that I need to hit some sort of a switch to force the story to open up the main line again, because I do not want to do open up a can of Grunt, or talk to Miranda (ever, if possible). And I wanted to save sidequests to play with Legion. I need to figure out what triggers next step. I am also getting a bit itchy to finish the campaign to maybe try DA for a change of pace instead of doing the third run for the Trilogy. I can just do a save, and make Mark do two endings rather than one, as he is a good fit for both Destroy and Dominate. And, I have a week off work over Christmas, so will be a good time to get into a new game. I will have to take Miranda with me on the Suicide run, and I am not supposed to pair her up with Garrus, Grunt or Zaeed. I guess, I will take Legion, and let either Jack or Monrith to hold the field.too bad about Zaeed, I am used to playing with him now.
Now, Mark's love life also got confusing, because to my surprise, when he went to check on Tali, Tali started stummering and blushing all over the place about linking suits. I remember seeing (at least some) of this on my gal, so I don't know if Mark's assurances that he feels exactly the same way has anything to do with a confession of love as a PG-13 might want it, or is it a part of the loyalty-friendship thing, and an ex-Obsidian talent wrote it. The way he smiled though made me think it was supposed to be him being sweet on Tali, though his face not being build for smiles it looked like a predatory grin. As I said, confusing. Decided to avoid talking to Jack for now, because we both need a break from talking about "us". Well, not sure about Mark, but I do. He's too awkward around women.

After getting the IFF, the Normandy crew abduction will not trigger if you still have unrecruited squadmates or open loyalty quests. You will need to complete 1-3 sidequests to trigger the abduction sequence (the exact number of Mission Complete screens needed will vary). So if you want to play with Legion on sidequests, there is your opportunity. And if Legion has not told you about his loyalty quest yet, then you can actually get his Widow sniper rifle before the mission.
