Sloan's hairstyle looks like shit. I don't understand Bioware's recent obsession with shitty buzzcuts, sideburns, and Dubstep Skrillex hair. DAI was full of it. They ruined Celene with it. Its like Bioware wants everyone to be tomboys. These hairs look like everyone in the family got lice during the famine.

Ugh, yeah don't remind me of the atrocious buzzcut styles of DA:I. Those were truly bad.
I like that your loose-hanging hair parts bob when you run during gameplay in this game but as soon as it goes into cutscene the physics disappear and it looks like bad old DA:I hair again, like in the Sloanne Kelly scene shown at TGA. We also probably won't see long and loose hair in the game because of helmets being required for certain scenes and that oughta make it impractical.

We also probably won't see long and loose hair in the game because of helmets being required for certain scenes and that oughta make it impractical. that'll depend on th eenvironment as I doubt we'd have to wear a helmet on every mission if we don't want to. It's possible they just had the toggle helmet to on with th eexception of cutscenes or something and just left it off for the bit leading to the sloan Kelly scene so they could show off the hair physics. They have done shoulder length hair before obviously with Miranda and Ashley and given us shoulder length options ibn DA2 with our Hawke and that game also had limited hair physics as well. The hair physics may be limited to just when you run or move. But at least it is an improvement on DAI. I am curious as to what styles we'll get to pick from though. Unfortunately I don't think we will know until the game releases. As for the physics disappearing in the cutscenes it might be a limitation of the engine but I will asy I think based on what I've seen MEA is definitely a step forward on DAI so all good so far. So long as they look like they'er making steps forward as it appears here from game to game then I think we should be happy. DAI was very basic with the hair and for me it was one of it's major shortcomings. It looks at leas t like they're tryin t olearn from the mistakes there as I have to admit whilst I'm not that keen on her face and would definitely redesign that in the CC to be a little more like the character's I've made in DAI. I do like her hairstyle and would consider using it on one of my heroes at some point.

Step forward, you say? Based on the pony tail? Also, I don't count Scott's hair in the cinematic as valid nor Sloane Kelly's odd hairdo. What should concern all of us is the hair generating ability of the CC.

Considering the default protagonist's hair would be the... flagship of the game then it's a safe assumption they will look average at best.

What should concern all of us is the hair generating ability of the CC. Maybe not but in the case of Sloane based on the trailer though it sounds like Sloane likes it rough longer hairstyles don' t seem t work well with people that are like that I don't think. In the situation with our protag we getto choose how we want to act within reason so hopefully we'll have the kind of hairstyles we want that suits the way we want to play our heroes (or at least have a wide enough range). Also with hair looking plasticky as some have been saying I think that's a problem with the engine they're using I think not so much Bioware themselves. But yes I believe it is a step forward atm anyway.

I suspect most posters in this thread are going to be severely disappointed. I've seen a little too much optimism over a ponytail that moves a bit (that same ponytail is seen 3-4 more times on other human characters) and two buzz cuts. My guess is there will be 4-6 decent options and as many variations on cropped hair. And I'll bet none of them go past the shoulders in order to avoid clipping and easily stuffed in a helmet (of which we'll be wearing at least 50% of the time while deployed to these various planets.) unfortunately i agree, judging by both default ryder's hair i doubt we're getting anything that great. I still think the hair will be better than what we had in inquisition, but anything would be a step up from that.

I still think the hair will be better than what we had in inquisition, but anything would be a step up from that. That's all I was referring too it's a step up from DAI I think because they set themselves a pretty low bar to get over with on DAI partly I think because it was their first game on this engine. If it is similar to DA2 level then great as that had a few nice hairstyles so Bioware has shown they can make some nice styles when they put the effort in. I would be content if they just gave us more of that really then it would be good. Plus the ME original trilogy hair despite the lack of selection wasn't that bad as I've found myself using most of the options at one time or another. As long as it is a step up from DAI which I think it will be because of the DAI bar being so low I'l be happy and I think most others will too.

I wonder, if the hairstyles are not that great, if my Ryder can have the option to wear a hat. Maybe one that has the AI logo on it.

From what I have observed, the hair physics are similar to Battlefront.
In Battlefront, when one combat rolls, jumps, falls down, or just runs around in general, hair moves in a smilar fashion. I am really not complaining. The similarities just caught my eye.
When it comes to hair in Mass Effect, my only concern is the lack of options for a character.

Given that they seem to be working closely with Nvidia on this, I wouldn't be surprised if it supported Nvidia's Hairworks ( provided your a proper PC player ) that is.

That certainly might be possible considering ew did see Sara's pomytail hair move as she was running in the game trailer. Though I'm not counting 100% on it though.

Bsn had their every second thread filled with "Bioware!! We want better hair!!!!" Titles.... So... I have a tiny little bitty suspicion that Bioware might have gotten the hint and worked on it. But then again..... this is EAWARE we're talking about lol, so we'll never know but as someone above me mentioned, Sarah had a flowing ponytail in the trailer... we might be lucky this time

Whether they've succeeded or not only time will tell though.

We need a character that is not a part of any strict program / chain of command, then they can grow out their hair and beard however they like. But it seems like every game we are playing the ''sir yes sir'' kind of character so the limited hair / beard options make sense.

Whether they've succeeded or not only time will tell though. There's a balance to hair. Everyone knows how to do hair and make it look good. But it's resource intensive. it's why in Tomb Raider, the only person whose hair moves like hair is Lara's and not anyone elses. If they wanted everyone's hair to sway and move, it'd come at the expense of something else. And seeing as people want photorealistic games, it'd come at the expense of photorealism or poly count or animations or size of environments. Hair could've moved in the Shep trilogy if they made the hair flat, semi-transparent polygon sheets that everyone would've complained about because that kind of technique is only passible in animanga styled games, and the same kind of technique could've been applied to MEA if they wanted to. And as always, hair would've looked worse. Hairworks and TressFX are resource intensive; turning them on hampers performance if your setup isn't beefy enough. The payoff isn't worth the effort required. Same reason why clipping exists in a variety of games depending on minor circumstances. Fixing that issue would've been at the cost of something graphical, so they choose not to fix it or choose to let it slide in certain instances in order to hit the graphical payoff since they know people will be more forgiving for minor clipping and hair issues than the game not having 16k textures that detail every crack and scratch and pore on a person's face.

We need a character that is not a part of any strict program / chain of command, then they can grow out their hair and beard however they like. But it seems like every game we are playing the ''sir yes sir'' kind of character so the limited hair / beard options make sense. That's because they're all straight out of the military, and the military has explicit rules on appearances, except in cases of special forces since they get more leeway in order to blend in depending on the op. Liam isn't military, which is why he gets the fro thing. And Cora's hair wouldn't fly at all in any actual branch of the military because it's not pulled back and out of her vision. So in reality, it seems like all the characters do whatever the hell they want with their hair to begin with. The hair choices Bioware goes with is more about "what's going to cause the least amount of clipping and other graphical annoyances through all of these action animations" than it is "we gotta have some military haircuts."
