Out of 48 options, I see 10 or 11 that I would consider using. Most are way too "Barbie" for me. That's less than 1 in four, or roughly even to the ME3 ratio. It's even better than the pathetic DAI ratio, since they offered only "bad-worse-worst". It would seem that there is some merit to the "more is better" philosophy. Same for me. About 9 or 10. Which is better than 2 in DAI... but it's like with ApachiiSkyHair for Skyrim, 90% look ridiculously out of place in the game. yeah there's about 10 ,I would use here as well. I would have got some hair mods for the trilogy but then i could never get them to workk on my system. Whilst the AShepard hairstyles were a little basic I didn't think they were bad at least not DAI bad anyway. The only games I've managed to get mods working in are DAO and DAI. Also given that MEA is using the same engine as DAI It gives me hope that if Boiware do come up short again as they did in DAI at least hopefully I can use some mods in MEA (assuming it uses a similar installation method) as well eventually, hopefully Bioware won't though.

I want the option for really long hairstyles. I don't care if if doesn't make sense. Just give me options. For those who want military short ugly hair, you can choose those options, but this is a video game, and it wouldn't kill anyone to have different options available. really long ones I think would be difficult to do especially given it looks like they've added physics to the hair this time based on the latest trailer but I could see a few shoulder length styles working like what Miranda and Ashley had if done right. Especially as our Ryder is supposedly about the same age I would guess as I don't think Ashley was that old. I was also thinking about giving my first Ryder a kind of fresh out of the Academy kind of look about her too assuming I go female Ryder for my first playthrough. I would be fine with Miranda or Ashley hair. I don't need Lady Godiva options, but there needs to be more than shaved, partly shaved, and short.

It most likely won't happen, and that's actually a bad thing. I'd imagine there will be some different hair style mods bymade by various people over time so even if there isn't any in the game itself then it might not be all bad because that's pretty much the way I corrected that one flaw odf DAI by downloading various hair mods. We'll only find out in time though I think. There shouldn't have to be hair mods to be able to pick something decent, and as someone who used to play on console, having options included in the base game is a must. There are tons of games that can do hair right; it's ridiculous that Bioware is still having this issue. Let's hope MEA surprises us all (in a good way).

I think the hair has to fit with the character's backstory. If we're playing as a character who is one part astronaut and one part Marine, they probably shouldn't look like the character has a professional stylist on staff in the ship. A lot of those hairstyles look like something you'd expect from a model or actress doing a covershoot for a magazine, not from someone who wears a helmet for a living. I'd like to see Bioware step up it's game with characters' hair, but they also shouldn't overdo it and have all the options turn the character into a glamazon. The hair styles should look simple and basic, and not overly styled, to fit Ryder's background.

I agree with others who said maybe 10 (if that) options out of those modded hairs are ones I would consider using - too many get into 'beauty pageant contestant' territory for my tastes. In ME3, the only modded hairs I used were one that allowed me to use default femShep's hair and Ashley's hairstyle. Like, when I say I want longer options, I don't mean long flowing curls - just something that maybe hits the shoulders like Diana Allers or Miranda. And more cute short cuts would be good too. Not the 'my mom wouldn't even wear her hair like that' choices we got in the trilogy. Here's some advice Bioware. Go to Google images and type in 'short haircuts women.' Now, try to curb the impulse of choosing the ones on women over the age of fifty or that one resembling your soccer mom neighbor's, and voila! Inspiration for a whole bunch of female hairstyles we won't totally hate And I'm going to repeat what many others in this thread regarding NPC only styles. Please just don't. It's great that you want that companion or important NPC to look unique, but, I kinda wouldn't mind my PC looking unique too, you know? Barring that, I really don't mind if I have the same hairstyle as say, Kelly Chambers. I mean, it's really no weirder than me having the same hairstyle as minor quest NPCs #1 and #4, and ambient NPCs #3, #7, and #9.

True they shouldnt but unlike Shepard, Ryder isn't strictly military so in truth we should have a bit more freedom in this area than we have been getting also I think given we have hair physics this time I doubt that it's only been applied to the ponytail that Sara is wearing in the trailer. Otherwise that would be a complete waste of resources. Given Ashley couild get away with shoulder length hair when she was military I think it only fair and fitting that our Ryder should as well especiall ygiven asthat as a pathfinder they'er more of an all rounder rather than strictly one thing. I'm just saying we should have a fwe options but whether we use them or not is up to us.

Since they are bringing in some longer hairstyles with some physics (i.e. moving ponytails), I would like to have an option to set both a "working hairstyle" (that is tied back in a practial way for being under a helmet) and a different "casual dress hairstyle" (that can fall on the shoulders or be tied up in a more elaborate way)... much like we have armor and casual dress for the PC in ME3. I don't really like the idea of having the PC dolled up like a "Dolly Parton" while in armor.
I would also like the ability to revisit the CC at points during the game to change and/or tweak the PCs appearance. It may not be totally "realistic"; but I really hated having to start the ME games over when I found I just really didn't like my PC's mouth or nose.
Expanding my wish list - I would also like NPCs with longer hair to also change their dress and hairstyles between working and casual situations. Now that we have some physics, I'm hoping that loose hair will fall more appropriately. That is, I liked Ashley military bun in ME1, but I was disappointed when she couldn't "let her hair down" during the romance cutscene. However, having parts of it "glued in the air" like when she was in the hospital bed in ME3 would have bothered me more than being stuck with the military bun did. I also feel that alien squad mates should have both a casual dress and armor... and not be stuck wearing their armor at all times both on and off duty.

Well, this is a popular thread. See you're all getting stuck into the important issues.
Ah, the hell with it, I'll pitch in.
I agree with those that said most of those pictured above would be far too glam for most of the game. However, it could be quite cool if you could have a few different styles available for the length you set in character creation. So on missions you go for simple tied back, mooching round the Nexus maybe let it down and if you have to go somewhere fancy treat yourself to a bit of a do. Basically just set the style in the "casual" tab of you wardrobe and perhaps have another tab for "dressy".

The best hair options would probably be some which are somewhere between the military suiting haircuts of the trilogy and the ones modders made. I'm not sure but didn't Bioware once said in an interview that Ryder wouldn't be as soldier-like as Shepard? Maybe that could open up the option for longer hairstyles, though the problem is more likely with the physic engine and the time it takes to design them. I'm not a fan of flashy or manga-like hairstyles, but i do think they could make a wider arrange of options (not 6 different types of bald heads like in DA:I), especially since whatever hair the protagonist gets to choose will also be given to all the random npcs and that made look the not-important humans in the trilogy quite bland and generic in my opinion (And all civiians had the same 'military' haircuts)

Kind of like what Captain Picard is in a sense in Star Trek TNG but only younger as Ryder's supposed to be early in their career trying to make a name for themselves in the business. Ryder's main task in the story I believe is to try to find humanity a new homeworld within the Andromeda galaxy and moer specifically within the Helios cluster which is where this game takes place in. But yeah Shepard was strictly a military officer in command of a military ship. Whilst like Shepard Ryder does have their own ship in this game (the Tempest) and the Nomad (which is kind of a new Mako esque land vehicle) the similarities between Shepard and Ryder kind of stop there. Ryder is more a person that has military training so they can deal with hostile situations if it's required but they're not strictly military so yeah the rules regarding hair and stuiff willllikely be relaxed a bit and as I asid in my previous postAshley can get away with it being and she like Shep was strictly military so why shouldn't Ryder be allowed within reason?

I'd imagine they've pretty much programmed all the hairstyles in for this game now so it's just a case of seeing what they've done when the game comes out although I have to admit I wouldn't mind seeing some of the CC potions but I doubt we will until the game comes out.

ME:A will not surprise us in any way, shape or form, imo. I say this based on Sarah's pony tail. Sarah is our protag and look at what she was given. Another clue that Bio is not interested or cannot do anything with hair is the look of our new revealed cluster aliens.. the Khet and the Dog Ears = bald pate.
My game expectation is that hair is for humans only. We will get buzz cuts or baldness for males and basic styles or short hair for females (see Kelly for example). If I see anything else, I will be pleasantly surprised.

I guess you might be assuming that he's not born of the character-creator? Given the style of his and Sara's look, and the way DAI was handled, I don't believe that they feature special, high-quality textures like Sheploo did. I think that just might be the CC-born defaults. I do agree that the hair probably won't be all they impressive. I think it will be better than BioWare's usual standard, but nothing special, and likely still very plasticky in appearance. I hope we are both wrong, and decent, varied styles rule the day.

Same. And of those 10, none really are my coup of tea. Fankly, I loved the hair choice I had in Dragon's Dogma. It have the same principle of DAI -all hairstyles open for both sexes- but there is something like 62 hairstyles. but, most important, the hair were of decent taste. Some are a little anime like (like the child-lolita like ponytails), and, most important, a part one or two, no hairstyle have a masculine hairline. LOL I know exactly which one you're talking about and I pretty much always give my Arisen that hairstyle, whether male or female EDIT: I remembered there's a "longer" pigtails version, which is probably what you're talking about, and yes, is very creepy/lolita lol I use the short/cute one. But yes, DD has the BEST hair, and they manage to make it available to either gender, and it's still awesome. AND they have MULTIPLE afro hair, several ponytails, braids, and HAIR PHYSICS! (for a few)

(for a few) Ahaha! yes, some of the fun was (for me) give a strange hairstyle to my Arisen or Pawn. My favourite Pawn was basically Obelix! big belly, tall, mustache, and red cute braids!!! My only regret id that I never made a pick of him! My last Pawn was basically Sten -grey skin, white hair, violet eyes- and my Arisen was a small female Squall! A pity the game was a little too hard for me, but archery and CC are top in that game!!!

I suspect most posters in this thread are going to be severely disappointed. I've seen a little too much optimism over a ponytail that moves a bit (that same ponytail is seen 3-4 more times on other human characters) and two buzz cuts. My guess is there will be 4-6 decent options and as many variations on cropped hair. And I'll bet none of them go past the shoulders in order to avoid clipping and easily stuffed in a helmet (of which we'll be wearing at least 50% of the time while deployed to these various planets.)

Still I'm more optimistic for this game especiall ygiven we aren't playing any other races s oit gives them a better chance to fine tune the CC better around humans and give us better options all round.

We know that we're faring slightly better than that, given that we've seen Scott's default hairstyle. I guess you might be assuming that he's not born of the character-creator? *´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•` ¤ Mass Effect Andromeda
Oh yeah... The CC creations will not meet expectations, imo. I figure that DA:I was released in Dec 2012 with Barbie and Ken hair. In 2017 Bio remains at CC 2012 hair tech. I still think the 30FPS lock is to allow for better graphical settings = better hair among other things.

Really hope Andromeda doesn't come down with a case of Inquisition Hair. Seriously, why did DAI have like 12 different variations of "Shaved head"? Hopefully MEA has some better looking/more interesting options.

Hopefully MEA has some better looking/more interesting options. I think most of the people here hope that as well myself included. Based on what we've seen I think we'll be alright though as both default characters Scott and Sara seem to have better hairstyles than we got in DAI in fact I quite like Sara's hair and may even use it myself on one of my heroes although in my case it'll likely be on a different face though. Becvause her face does look a little cartoony to me I'd probably prefer something a bit more similar to the kind of faces I've gone with and created on DAI so Sara will probably look a bit more like the heroes I've played on that game except for the hair of course

More choices would be better. I mean, I'm all for more options and I respect the amount of work that must have gone into making these, but there isn't a single one in here that I would even consider using. If this is reflective of the hair mods out there for ME3, I'm glad I never bothered to look into them.

I've recently fallen in love with hair Faith has in Mirror's Edge Catalyst, so if there is one hair style I want, it's that one (I wouldn't mind longer hairstyles either >_>) And I find the idea of having work and casual hairstyles completely awesome ....aaaand back to avoiding this thread, I love hair but I can't allow my imagination run wild or I will be disappointed when the game actually comes out like I always am in Bioware games
