Yeah I agree but unless they make an effort to try to improve it it'll never improve but I think thinmgs aer getting better though and we're starting to see decent hair in games. My only issue is that Bioware are still kind of using a helmet head kind of look but at least it looks like that in MEA they're making an effort to try to improve that. Whether they've succeeded or not only time will tell though. There's a balance to hair. Everyone knows how to do hair and make it look good. But it's resource intensive. it's why in Tomb Raider, the only person whose hair moves like hair is Lara's and not anyone elses. If they wanted everyone's hair to sway and move, it'd come at the expense of something else. And seeing as people want photorealistic games, it'd come at the expense of photorealism or poly count or animations or size of environments. Hair could've moved in the Shep trilogy if they made the hair flat, semi-transparent polygon sheets that everyone would've complained about because that kind of technique is only passible in animanga styled games, and the same kind of technique could've been applied to MEA if they wanted to. And as always, hair would've looked worse. Hairworks and TressFX are resource intensive; turning them on hampers performance if your setup isn't beefy enough. The payoff isn't worth the effort required. Same reason why clipping exists in a variety of games depending on minor circumstances. Fixing that issue would've been at the cost of something graphical, so they choose not to fix it or choose to let it slide in certain instances in order to hit the graphical payoff since they know people will be more forgiving for minor clipping and hair issues than the game not having 16k textures that detail every crack and scratch and pore on a person's face. yeah what I wassaying is that things aer improving in thast area as moe rand moer games are using that kind of tech and getting it to work better as they do as well. I know it's resource intensive but my point was they are getting there.

This is acceptable hair, surely? And in case 'not-Brevnau' is passing, does not look like a man.

Acceptable? Yes. But, DA:O had better and more varied.
Until I'm proved wrong, I still think "good" hair and the FB3 engine don't get along very well. Bio had, according to the studio, five years under they development belt. There are "good" looking hair styles all over the net yet Bio comes up with "acceptable"?
There must be a reason why aliens are effectively bald and humans are given basic hair styles. Also, I'm sure the studio is well aware of the Hair Threads and know what the fans want. Very puzzling.

I'm definitely curious as to what options we get in the CC though. I think looking at what we've seen they'll be better than DAI's

Actually most of the DAO hairstyles are mods made by modders the actual game only really had I think 3 hairstyles to choose from asnd they were all pretty rubbish. If you want variety I think DA2's the only game of Bioware's that has offered any.

I don' tthink DA2 did a bad job hair wise and based on the trailers we've seen I don't think MEA will be bad either. Of course it's still too early to say with MEA as the games not out yet and we haven't seen the CC but I'd say based on what we've seen things look good.

That was a few years back. Hair really isn't a personal issue. What I've seen is good for me but I don't care that much. I can't stop giggling every time I see the pic that someone thought that hair on Cora would have mass appeal at this time. Maybe something more blunted and less frofee or whatever the proper term for that wig.

I just hope they do as good a job with Andromeda I'd say judging by what we've seen they're trying to at least.

This is acceptable hair, surely? And in case 'not-Brevnau' is passing, does not look like a man. If my Ryder's hair (texture and style) could look like that or like Liam's I would be overjoyed. Unfortunately, she's a squad member, and if you remember in DAI (in previous ME games as well but I'm singling out DAI because it's the most recent offender), all squad members had great hair as well while everybody else in Thedas, including our character, had to endure the plastic helmet-hair curse. I'm not worried about squad members' hair at all. I am, however, worried about this...and this (Mass Effect: Andromeda: The Return of the Sharp Hairlines) ...and, of course, this DAI's Super Lustrous Vinyl Sheen ®The female hairstyles will look much nicer regardless of the length simply because most of them tend to conceal the hairline. Also, facial hair seems much better now so my dream of creating a character with a magnificent beard might just come true this time around.

DA2 had good hair imo. DAO/DA2 had the best hair of the modern BioWare games. They were mostly functional yet attractive, had nice styles for different characters and in the case of DA2 some had movement which made they look natural.
Cora's bad due to style. imo It's a hipster mom hair. If her side piece won't move, it'll be unnatural for most players I think.
Liam's good hair. Great shape, nice textures.
The Ryders' got playmobil hair, with extra plastic texture on Scott's side. I think Sarah's tail (?) can move, which is a bit of progress.

It was very subtle though. I don't think her style is bad I just think it's maybe a little different than what most were expecting myself included. She definitely has a Tasha Yar vibe about her though which I like. We'll see what she's like in game though once it's out.

Last time they did appearance pack in ME3 they stopped with just one probably because it didn't sell well. If a lot of people demand them maybe they'll do those but again it needs to sell well. Honestly I never heard of those cosmetic DLC having great sale.

Didn't Morrigan's hair move in Inquisition? It was definitely the best style, I wish I could've had something like it for my inquisitor. Scott's hair looks like a plastic, shiny block completely detached from his head, like a helmet. In contrast, Cora's hair doesn't look shiny or block-y from what I've seen of it. Though, it does suffer from looking like it doesn't actually grow from her head in some of those pics. Liam's, is in fact, awesome. I haven't really seen any problems with it. I remember when the CC was shown off for Inq., they had only shown two or three styles on the screen even though people wanted to see them all. I know what's up if they do that again. I don't want hair selections filled up with shaved hairstyles and hair that shines like a newly formed sun. Also, nice hair colors to choose from (even some crazy colors thrown in). Give me some Morrigan variants, si vous plait. Merci beaucoup.

Here's hoping. Also, the poster above me described Scott's hair as "detached from his head," and I think that's the perfect way to describe it. It doesn't look absolutely terrible, I guess, but there was something off about it that I couldn't quite place before. It just looks like it's going to float off his head if the gravity is low enough.

Hair is suppose to convey things about the character and their place in the story. An easy to see example of this from cinema would be the work done for Natalie Portman's hair in Leon. Cora in this context meaning...is Martha Stewart going to bake us some pies?

Cora in this context meaning...is Martha Stewart going to bake us some pies? I strongly disagree with this. I don't want my video game characters to be stereotypes of any sort (at least not in this type of game). If someone looks like "Martha Stewart", which I don't believe she does but whatever, it doesn't mean that they automatically have to have the personality of Martha Stewart. I don't understand what you mean by your example. In the movie Gloria (almost identical plot to the movie from your example but with genders reversed) the little boy looks like this: He's a kid... with hair. There's not much more to it. His hair has nothing to do with "his place in the story". To take it even further, Gena Rowlands' character in the same movie looks like an average middle-aged woman from the 80's but she's obviously far from it. Same thing with Leon from your example. He looks like someone's tired, balding, middle-aged dad but he's actually a bad-ass.

It was one example of the work done for the hair. That souless monsters hair is another matter and M's hair on that thing would tell a different story.
