Hair and BioWare really don't get along very well in the same sentence. We can't miss the fact that animating long hairs, for example, is difficult because of clipping issues, but I really hope we get a lot more options than the fifty bald styles from Dragon Age Inquisition. Some curly short hair will be perfect for my ideas And BTW, both Cora and Liam's hairs are awesome. God I think you just gave BioWare their idea for their first DLC pack for Andromeda. Hmm......I'm not sure it's a deal breaker for me, since my favourite romance in DA:I is Cass, and she has way worse hair than Cora. But it *is* an influencing factor. However, I think that is partly because it looks so much like the concept art for Miranda in ME:2. Which screams *Miranda 2.0* Honestly though.....I'm not sure how I feel about this. Or whether I should take it as a clear indication that once again, Male and Female PC's are going to have to share hair styles. What a depressing thought! I don't mind shared hair styles, but they should be more defined and not slight variations of the same thing. Also, if I play MaleRyder, I wish there's long hairstyles this time. We're not military anymore.Agreed but I think we need longer ones for both not just male Ryder or female Ryder so we need a mix of everything really. As I generally prefer my males to have short hair but for my ladies I tend to go long if I can. But as long as there is a good mix for both that'll be good. I think I'll likely end up using Sara's ponytail hair at some point as I do like it although not likely on my first Sara. I think the odds are good we'll get better choices than DAI this time. It just remains to be seen how many choices we get.

Not only would I like a variety of appropriate hairstyles, nothing overly long unless you have the option to let your hair down if you have it in a ponytail or bun; a larger selection of natural hair colors but a few afro textured hairstyles would be amazing and greatly appreciated.

This isn't even strictly a Bioware thing, but more hairstyles with bangs, please.
Like, fuck man. I'm so tired of seeing every character's forehead in every game I play. Lemme have something with some length. Parting your hair down the middle is gross. It never looks good. Please.
Hawke in DAII had the best hair, though a little too "styled" for my tastes. Too bad only the default Hawke was allowed to have it!
Oh, FemHawke had great hair too. It wasn't even all that "feminine". Give me hair like that. If mine was straight, that's how I'd wear it.

Best hair in a video game by a long way, it really shows how poor Bioware is. I mean look at that Hair. Just look at it move - even the animation when she comes out of water and wrings out her ponytail is a bajillion times better than anything Bioware has ever done. LOOK AT THAT HAIR BIOWARE! Loooooook at it! Yes I am a 37yr old man getting worked up about hair. It's serous stuff. Incidentally I have complete sympathy with women now when it comes to hair, the daily battle I have with my two year old to dry and brush her comparatively long hair makes the reapers seem a doddle.

Couldn't help but notice that Lara's bangs were almost completely static.
Also, I don't know how you guys can even see anything in the second part of the video. It's way too dark. The animations are a nice touch, but I can't tell what's going on with anything else.

Yes we definitely need better hair in Andromeda then those plastic looking hair covers that i see in DA I. I hope we see something that looks like this. Real long hair for her/him that moves in the wind or when your character moves her/his head.

She literally never shows her face in that entire video, lol. The first vid, on the other hand, is staring her straight in the eyes, and her bangs stay glued to her face.

I don't expect them to make it this good because that's not going to happen. At least not when your playing a game where your character isn't the only one with that kind of hair. I think what they should do and what it looks like they are doing is to at least get it on par with DA2 and at least give us hair that dosen't look and feel static and helmet heady It would be nice if they could give us Lara croft style hair that moves in the wind but I don't think that'll happen. At least not until the resources aer there to a point that they can give it to all characters. I think they have made steps in the right direction though with MEA

Expecting Lara's hair in Andromeda is, and always was, an unreal expectation. Or expecting the quality animation from Uncharted or any other more narrowly focused games for that matter.
Even though what we've seen in not much, a safe assessment about hair quality in Andromeda is that it's going to be a small step better than Inquisition's, with a little bit more movement as well. Not nearly the jump in quality I hoped considering Andromeda is for this gen only but that seems to be true about other things as well, Andromeda doesn't look a top tier game visually.
That said, if we have enough and interesting options for the PC and consequently enough variety for the NPCs than I'd say it can be good enough.

Pure Hair is an awesome technique, but when I was playing TR I had to shut it off because it dropped my framerate about TWENTY frames. Of course they are experimenting new resources and proving this is possible, but as I said, long or smooth hairs are a dificult thing to animate when you have the posibility to create your own character. But yes, BioWare can do better and let's hope for the best options. At least three or four bald styles, not fifty.

I'm not saying we should expect the same as RotTR, but by using it as an example of where things were a year ago surely we should expect something that at least looks like it is from this decade is not unreasonable?

It can be awkward when you'er not just making the game for PC but the consoles as well though. They have to make sure it runs nice and smooth on both systems. Personally I think for now if they can at least get back to DA2 levels in terms of hairstyles and then build from there they'll be heading in the right direction. Judging from what we've seen it looks like to me this what they are doing with MEA but we'll have to wait and see what things are like when the game comes out.

It may not look top tier but when your game uses a CC it might make things more difficult on the resource front I don't know as most games don't have a CC whereas Bioware's do. I'd say personally it does look in general better graphically than DAI though and by general I'm not just talking about the hair but the whole package so let's wait and see what else the game has in store. I don't like judging a game on just one thing becaus eeven though this was an area they fell short in with DAI the game for me at least makes up for it in other areas.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think Sara's ponytail flopped around a bit during the trailer. That's already a step up from the OT.

It does I think Cora's hair moved slightly in the latest trailer as well. My feeling is the hair will be a bit more DA2 like in that we won't necessarily see it moving around as if it's moving in the wind like in Tomb Raider but we will have some physics in that it'll bounce around a bit as we run around on our missions or on the Tempest.

This vid isn't so much as addressing hairstyles, but moreso hair physics...it looks great in " Rise of the Tomb Raider" Wow, that vid is phenomenal. I can only hope that will be something to look forward to in the coming years. I think it might be a while, though, before that becomes standard with games like ME and DA. *sigh*

I think it might be a while, though, before that becomes standard with games like ME and DA. *sigh* yeah it will be but if Bioware can get back to DA2 levels in the meantime and build from there then that would at least be something, which it looks like they are doing based on the MEA trailers. It'll be a long time before they're matching TR levels with their hair but I think in the immediate future if they could move towards maybe something like Final Fantasy levels or (dare I say it ) Witcher 3 levels that would be something.I think that's achievable for Bioware they just need to put in some effort in that area. Hair dosen't need to be perfect as we know it's hard but as long as it looks like it's got some life in it and dosen't look all helmet heady then that's all we need.
