I'm done playing for the day.
That whole thing was a sad sad mess.
If I hadn't made this thread with you guys to encourage me on, I'd just stop. I feel like I need to limp back to Dragon Age. I need an Alistair mance followed by a Cullen mance to rinse that sadness out thoroughly.

Can you stand strong against Triss' adorableness? Guess we'll find out sooner or later. I dunno. I was disgusted by Kiera until she pulled a Cass mance on me. Considering I killed her, should I romance anyone else? There will be some lovely romantic moments without anyone dying. Some of those moments don't even require the lover in question to be present. "You flee my dream come the morning Your scent - berries tart, lilac sweet. To dream of raven locks entwisted, stormy Of violet eyes glistening as you weep..."

Found Triss. Seems...Nicer than I last remember her. She apologized for taking advantage of Geralt. Pfft. No. Years where you kept him away from loved ones for your own selfish wants. I think Triss in witcher 3 is a nicer and more selfless person than Yennefer. Witcher 1 Triss was a lot more like Yennefer. Triss telling Geralt about Yen and Ciri wouldn't have helped him find them any sooner. I'm sure Vesimir, Zoltan, and Dandelion would have mentioned them. I think Geralt would have slept with Triss anyway, he has a thing for Sorceress', and it's not like Yen didn't cheat on him. Yenn specifically didn't find Geralt "because he looked so cozy with Triss." Why did he look cozy? because he had no memory of Yenn and began a relationship with Triss. He didn't even know the adoptive mother of his adopted child whom he'd sold his soul for existed. I don't care how gruff Geralt presents himself, I think he would have at least reconnected--written a letter or looked around for rumors of her- if he'd known OF her. I watched TW1 and she specifically does not answer your questions about your past right before she tumbles into bed with you. Then she straight up apologizes for taking advantage of Geralt in TW3, in game recognition of her selfish acts. And I'm supposed to forgive the gigantic huge lie our romantic relatoinship had been based on because she sounds a tad regretful?

It wasn't exactly a lie. Geralts feelings for Triss were real, because he didn't know he had those same feelings for Yen. Yes, Triss manipulated the situation so that she could get what she wanted, but she too loves Geralt.
In fact, Triss' love is more "real" than Yen's at that time. Yen believes her feelings are due to the wish Geralt made. Triss actually has those feelings from being with him romantically.

I didn't like her at all in TW1 and was very indifferent towards her in TW2 but ended up really liking her in TW3. And regardless of whether or not you pursue her romantically, she has been and is very much a part of Geralt's and Ciri's extended family alongside Yen, Zoltan, Dandelion, Vesemir etc.

And I'm supposed to forgive the gigantic huge lie our romantic relatoinship had been based on because she sounds a tad regretful? While I do like Triss as a character, I am in complete agreement with you here. Starting their entire romantic relationship on a lie is just not forgivable for a partner. And not just a lie about Yen, which is bad enough, but hiding Ciri's existence I just can't get over. Yen's feelings might have started out that way, but (spoiler for phoray follow): they develop into real love, as she tells him atop that mountain. And of course, the player could decide that Geralt reciprocates.
I do think tying their fates together via genie is super weird, but at least it was done honestly (as far as I understand, anyway, having not read the books).

I am aware of how Yen's feelings change over the course of time, however at that moment where Triss is the one, not Yen, Triss' love is the more serious of the two; because it's based on emotions. Yen and Geralts love for each other is down to that wish. Until the circumstance happens, neither know if they truly love each other or if it's just because their fates are tied together. Triss, you know that love is real.
Yes, she doesn't tell you about your significant other or your adoptive daughter. That's bad. But, she loves Ciri like a sister. If anything were wrong, she would have told Geralt.
As for telling him about Yen, c'mon. Would you if you were in her position? She's a Sorceress who fell in love. She's gonna live for a very long time. There aren't many men that can live as long as her. She's not exactly best friends with Yen, and at the time, Geralt was reciprocating those feelings. Why would she through away her chance at happiness?

It really doesn't help that you don't get to see Yenniefer until the third game. You spend most of your time with Triss and get to know her as a character.

Why would she through away her chance at happiness? Well, something certainly is wrong now If I had a daughter out there that I'd forgotten about due to amnesia, and someone who professed to love me let me go on unaware of her existence, that romance would be dead. Whether something is "wrong" or not that might warrant attention is irrelevant. And I'm not a liar, so yes, I would tell him. None of that means that romancing Triss in the game is a bad choice in any way. Everyone has different tolerances for these sorts of things. I just happen to agree with phoray, who is already uncomfortable with the lying.

She's not exactly best friends with Yen, and at the time, Yes she was, perhaps her only female friend. "Yenn specifically didn't find Geralt "because he looked so cozy with Triss." I know that's what she said, but I think Yennefer only got in contact with Geralt when she needed him. (as is her way) Geralt had a long history with Triss before jumping in the sack at Kear Morhen in Witcher 1. And Geralt's ties to Yennefer are not the romantic tale you seem to think. There are no spoilers below, but a long wall of text. Geralt first met Yen after a run in with a djinn. Dandelion had demanded three wishes from the djinn, but as it was Geralt that had the seal, the djinn was under no obligation to Dandelion and preceded to rip out his throat. Geralt fights the djinn to no avail before remembering an old incantation to exorcise him. (His first wish is granted and the djinn leaves them be.) Geralt takes his badly injured friend to the nearest town for help. He meets an Elf named Chireadan, who tells him that magic is banned in this town, but there is a sorceress residing at the Novagadian Ambassadors estate that flouts the law, but warns him she cannot be trusted. Geralt finds his way into her room to find her sleeping. When he wakes her, he tells her the story and is able to convince her to help Dandelion, but only after she has taken a bath. Geralt knows that by nature, sorceress' are usually deformed and she is probably using an illusion spell to make herself look young and beautiful. But he doesn't mind and just enjoys the view. After she dresses, she opens a portal and transports them both to the inn where Dandelion is laid up. Geralt waits down stairs with Chireadan (an Elf he meets again in Witcher 1) Yennefer calls Geralt up and Dandelion is sleeping peacefully and out of danger. They only have to discuss a price when Yen paralyzes Geralt, he tries to argue with her but can do nothing. He passes out, then wakes up in a prison cell with Chireadan, who inform him they are there because Yennefer had cast a spell on Geralt, who had run through the town punishing anyone who had ever insulted Yennefer. The guards come in and start laying in to the witcher. He wishes they would just burst, and to everyone's surprise, they do. (His second wish) In the mean time, Yennefer had tried to bind the djinn to use it's power as her own. She couldn't, as the djinn was still bound to Geralt and the djinn was destroying the whole town in the battle. Geralt went to help Yennefer, but she turned on him and they fought. With her power waning from fighting on two fronts, she manages to paralyse Geralt once again. At this moment she can no longer keep up the illusion spell and Geralt sees her as the old hunchback she really is. Then it dawns on him that the djinn has been granting his wishes. He realizes that once he makes his wish, the djinn will be free and will take his wrath out on Yennefer. So in spite of the way Yen had treated him, he wished that their fates would be forever bound. The djinn couldn't kill Geralt (His Master) and so now couldn't kill Yen either. (We don't know the actual wish, and some believe Geralt wished them to have a child together.) Both Witchers and most sorceress' are sterile. (I say most, because Geralts mother was supposedly a sorceress) And so while he could have wished for anything, he used his wish to save the life of a sorceress who he hardly knew and who had treated him badly. The Inn collapsed and Yen and Geralt made love in the rubble, and so began there stormy relationship.
Yennefer had broken up with Geralt when King Niedamir had sent out the call for dragon hunters. Yarpen Zigrin, and his group of Dwarven dragon hunters. An honorable Knight, (who's name escapes me) Boholt and his Crinfrid Reavers, and Yennefer of Vengerberg answered the call. Yennefer wanted to harvest the dragon, believing she could make a potion that would reverse her infertility. She was in her 90's and more than anything wanted a child. The Locals had poisioned the Dragon but not killed it. Yarpin and Boholt's reavers form an alliance with Yennefer to take down the dragon together. Geralt and Dandelion show up. Witcher's don't kill dragons, but Dandelion wanted to be there to write a ballad of the fight. Yennefer wouldn't even talk to Geralt and made it clear they were finished. A knight Borch Three Jackdaws (who was known to Geralt) showed up with 2 offsiders and a mage, but then left. The mage stayed. A commotion broke out as the dragon had returned, but it wasn't the dragon the locals had injured. It was a fabled Golden Dragon. Yennefer told Geralt she would take him back if he killed the dragon for her, but he refused, saying Witcher don't kill dragons. The Mage said he was putting an end to the hunt, but Yennefer had the Dwarves and reavers overwelm him. Geralt and Dandelion went to the mages aid, and was getting the upper hand when Yennefer paralyzed him, and had the reavers tie the three of them to a wagon wheel while he was incapacitated. Then out of the blue, Yennefer turns on the Crinfrid reavers and the Dwarves, threatening them. Yarpen manages to knock Yen to the ground and the reavers pounce on her, tieing her hands and gagging her so she can't cast spells. Boholt rips her dress open and is going to rape her in front of Geralt when the dragon returns. They tie her to the wagon while they tend to the dragon, Dandelion enjoying the view. They are no match for Villentretenmerth, the Golden Dragon and he lets them run for their lives. It is then that they see Saesenthessis a baby dragon that Villentretenmerth had been protecting. The hatch-ling made it's way over to Yennefer and snuggled up to her. Just then the local militia showed up in huge numbers and overwhelmed the dragon and managed to get a net over it. Yennefer managed to work her gag off and told Geralt to use Igni on her ropes. He refused saying with his hands tied, he would burn her hands and back, but he then relented and freed her. She immediately turned the militia into toads, and Borch Three Jackdaws two friends showed up and cut the Dragon free. They were then going to kill Yen, when Villentretenmerth stopped them, before turning into the Human form of Borch Three Jackdaws, quite to the surprise of Geralt. Villentretenmerth thanked Geralt and Yen for their help but told Yennefer she would never conceive a child, as not even the magic of a Golden Dragon was that powerful.

dragontartare and I agree on the Triss thing. olnortonThis story just tells me that Geralt should be with neither of them. I had no idea they were deformed hags with illusion spells, and from that story, it does sound kinda like Yenn had no interest in finding Geralt. Seems the binding of fates just makes them unable to kill each other and more inclined to keep each other alive. But love? not so much. Geralt should be like the Highlander and just live through an eternity of wives with lovers in between.

Now come on Phoray! I want to hear you comment more about Corinne Tilly. She's the second NPC I've wanted to date in this game so far. I really liked the Herbalist in White Orchard. I felt kinda drawn to her. Too bad, so sad... Kiera was lame till she cass manced me, but she had no draw without the effort. Corinne had that drawn to feeling. Her form of magic is also more interesting. And like Dragon said, I enjoyed the memories I got to share with her. She was very patient, and listened a lot. The sorceresses I've encountered so far seem to be very much "me me me". Corrinne was just their to help. And after she helped? She didn't then follow up with a favor request. She was nice. But I was under the assumption I'd pretty much never see her again.

Sorceresses are ugly before becoming Sorceresses. Witchers are normal before becoming Witchers. They aren't all that different. It's probably why Geralt ends up bedding so many of them.

dragontartare and I agree on the Triss thing. olnorton But love? not so much. Geralt should be like the Highlander and just live through an eternity of wives with lovers in between. When you know the whole story, you might change you mind. But yes Yennefer does love Geralt in her own way, and not because of the wish. Triss also very much loves Geralt, but unlike Yen, she is prepared to give up everything for him. Shani does too, and she has never done anything like Triss or Yen, but she knows it could never be with Geralt. You definitely have to choose one. (not for game reasons) but you would miss out on too much to choose neither. Of my 5 play-throughs I have only chosen Yen once, but I still find it very hard to tell her outright that I don't love her. And that one time I did let Triss sail off, I made a grown man cry. (Not me, an NPC) edit: Alright, me too. I'll tell you another story that shows Geralt already had strong feelings for Triss before the events of Witcher 1. And why not telling Geralt straight up about Ciri and Yen may no be as bad as it seems.

Corinne is one of the few good and selfless people in general in the game. She encouraged Geralt to open up about his memories of Ciri creating one of the more heartwarming moments in the game of Geralt reminiscing of his time with Ciri. (with fantastic voice acting.) It was as you said, Corinne was patient and actually listened to Geralt rather than just to turn it around and make it all about her like most people in the game. I enjoyed the tenderness in Corinne's voice because it really showed that she was legitimately interested in the bond that Geralt and Ciri share, she wasn't just listening for the sake of gathering information for her ability but intrigued by the duo's history. Corinne was generally sympathetic to Geralt and hoped that he would reunite with Ciri. When I first played Novigrad Dreaming I was actually a bit taken aback by Corinne's selflessness which surprised me due to Triss and Geralt's initial skepticism to the oneiromancer. In the books there is someone who is named Condwiramurs Tilly who shares the same last name as Corinne's, It's possible that they're related but I'm doubtful. On a side note, I love Corinne's design. It makes her unique from the other soresscess (besides Yen in my opinion.) she gives off an Oracle vibe and sense of calm. It's simple (for a sorceress XD) and not extravagant, definitely one of my favorite design choices in the game. Something I wish to see in a mod for Skyrim. Also if you look in Corinne's room, you'll see a picture of Sigmound Freud. So a few questions: Corinne's powers are interesting, but I do wonder if she does have combative abilities as well? I'm still confused on how Sarah was able to trap Corinne in the dream. How was the Godling able to manipulate Corinne like that? While I do love Corinne's design, I have to wonder how was she able to sneak past witch hunters and rent a room in the Golden Sturgeon with out people leering at her. I mean if you enter the place where she is staying you see Pirates and some of them probably haven't seen a woman in months! I'm sure she has a disguise or a hood so I'm not going to question it too much. If any one of you guys are good with art I would like to request to make one of Corinne Tilly. There isn't much out there and I would appreciate if any one can draw the dreamer please! Or make a forum sig using in game pics of Corinne Tilly. I just want to see more of Corinne! With that out of the way more pics!: Here's her storyboard in case you didn't see it spoilers if you didn't finish Novigrad Dreaming: More pics to come. Trust me this isn't the last time you'll see Corinne.

Ooooooo nuuuu. Try to stop her.(probably fail) Blame her in advance. Stay out of it. Decisions!!! And so... Kiera lays dead at my feet. And the way Geralt burns the notes... I'm sad. I honestly didn't believe the game would let me kill her. I just Zevran'ed Kiera You're copying my playthrough. But never fear you will get your chance to do good. And however hard it may be to accept some rough consequences going blind is the bestest way (according to me). dragontartare and I agree on the Triss thing. olnorton This story just tells me that Geralt should be with neither of them. Shani I tell you.

No actual Witcher 3 Spoilers, just some background stuff. A man cursed in the daylight hours with the face of a hedgehog, by the name of Duny, also known as the Urcheon of Erlenwald had been told that a "child surprise" would free him of his curse. One day he came upon a wounded King Roegner of Cintra and aided him, in return the King promised him "whatever he had left at home without knowing or expecting it" (A custom known as the law of surprise) The surprise being his wife Queen Calanthe was at home with child. When Princess Pavetta Fiona Elen was 15 years old, a party was held for which potential suitors would get to meet the Princess. Seated beside the Queen was the Honorable Lord Ravix of Fourhorn (Better known to us as Witcher Geralt of Rivia) The Queen wanted Cintra to be allied with Skellige and thought she might need the witcher's aid in achieving that. Also at the table was Mousesack, a powerful Skellige Druid in the service of King Bran. Mousesack had once saved Geralt's life in a massacre of witchers. Just after the young Princess is bought before the crowd, there is a commotion outside and in walks a knight in full helmet, who introduces himself as "Urcheon of Erlenwald and he is there to collect the promised reward for saving King Roegner's life. Princess Pavetta has belonged to him since the day of her birth. The Queen knew of the pact, but has no intention of giving her daughter to a stranger, a bit of a scuffle breaks out and the Queen demands that Duny removes his helmet. The crowd is stunned to see not the face of a man, but one covered in the quills of a hedgehog. Geralt and the Druid both notice the room is being filled with a strange magic. Some of it emanating from Duny. The Queen announces that for the Law of Surprise to be invoked, Pavetta herself must agree. Knowing the Princess never would, but unbeknown to those present, Duny and the Elven Princess had been lovers for a year, and when the Princess agreed to go with Duny, the Queen collapsed and a fight broke out. Pandemonium breaks out as the Princess tries to defend her lover with wild magic. Furniture flys around the room and the Princess is spinning out of control, Geralt steps in to defend the Urcheon and Mousesack tries to calm the Princess. When everything has calmed down, they explain how they have been lovers for a year, and the Queen give consent to the marriage. Duny thanks Geralt for saving his life and offers him anything he wants in return. Geralt asks for "that which you already have but do not know", Then Geralt breaks the news to everyone, including Duny and Pavetta, that the princess is pregnant. He asks that their child be raised as a witcher. When the sun rose, Duny retained the face of a man. (Side Note: Duny's uncle-inlaw is one Crach an Craite, some-one Yennefer had an affair with while supposedly with Geralt.) While still in Cintra, he maintained the illusion of being simply Duny, when the chance came, he tried with the help of the powerful sorcerer Vilgefortz, to take Pavetta and Cirilla with him to Nilfgaard, where he was the rightful heir to the throne. Pavetta got wind of the plan and left Cirilla with her Grandmother. Duny and Pavetta argued and Pavetta fell, or was pushed overboard. Learning of Ithline's Prophecy which stated Ciri's child would rule half the world, Emhyr var Emreis sent out spies and spared no expense to find his daughter. His initial plan being to have an incestuous relationship with her and claim the child. He later changed this to just having Cirilla as his successor to the throne. Knowing the power of the Elder Blood, Vilgefortz wanted Ciri for his own reasons. When the Empire of Nilfgaard attacks the Kingdom of Cintra. Queen Calanthe commits suicide and her granddaughter, Cirilla escapes the city and gets taken in as an orphan by a merchants wife, while the merchant is away on business. When Geralt saves the merchant from monsters, he applies the Law of Surprise and unknowingly gains Ciri for a second time. He takes her to Kaer Morhen and trains her in the ways of a witcher. Geralt notices somethings not quite right with Ciri and calls the sorceress Triss Merigold to Kaer Morhen. Triss recognises Ciri is a source from the powerful magic eminating from her. But she claims she doesn't have the power to control Ciri and advises Geralt to swallow his pride and ask Yennefer for help, which Geralt is reluctant to do. In the mean time Dandelion is captured by a mage named Rience, and is tortured for information on Ciri's whereabouts. Dandelion is saved by Yennefer who battles the mage, but he escapes through a portal opened by his Master. Geralt leaves Kaer Morhan with Triss, taking Ciri to receive normal schooling from Mother Nenneke, a Priestess and the head of the Temple of Melitele in Ellander. On the way Triss fell very ill. In Witcher 2, Yarpen Zigrin tells of his meeting with Geralt, Ciri in hand and Triss over his shoulder with her diarrhea running down his back. He told how the witcher would bathe her and wash her clothes, and protected her while fending off a scoia'tael attack. Ciri's time at the Temple was plagued with bad dreams and Geralt had to call in Yennefer to teach her to control her magic. Ciri never liked Yen at first, but they grew to love each other like Mother and Daughter. After Ciri and Yen leave the Temple, the Order of the White Rose slay Mother Nenneke and all the Priestess' for taking Ciri in. (I'm not sure, but I think that Herbalist in White Orchard you liked, also trained with Mother Nenneke, but I might be wrong) In the mean time Geralt tries to track down Rience and his unknown master (Made easier by the disfigured face Yennefer left him with). With the help of Dandelion and Shani he tracks him down and in the ensuing fight both men are injured, again Rience escapes through a portal opened by his master, and Geralt is stopped from following him through the portal by the sorceress Phillipa Eilhart. She also kills the only other man that might lead Geralt to the Mystery employer. Phillipa then goes, leaving the wounded Geralt behind.
Another sorceress that Geralt had bedded, Fringilla Vigo once blinded Yennefer when they fought on apposing sides in the first war with Nilfgaard. There is no love lost between them when Yennefer has to ask Fringilla for help. Fringilla is rather cold to Geralt now as well, perhaps calling her Yennefer in the throes of passion wasn't the best.
Thanedd Island held Tissaia de Vries magic acadamy, the place where both Triss and Yennefer had studied. Tissaia de Vries took the young Yennefer under her wing, and among other things, fixed her hunched back. Before the war there was a Mages reunion there where the mages could discuss their allegiances for to upcoming war. Most intended to remain neutral. Tissaia de Vries & Yennefer among them. Mages for Nilfgaard included Vilgefotz and Francesca Findabair (Possibly the only sorceress with the natural magical ability to match that of Philippa Eilhart) For the North you had, Philippa Eilhart, Keira Metz, Sabrina Glevissig Triss Merigold, and the sorcerer Dethmold. Geralt and Ciri where there as Yennefers guests. Also there for the North, Sigismund Dijkstra head of the Redainian secret service, and I think still Philippa's lover at the time. Also there for Nilfgaard, Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach, The Nilfgaardian intelligence officer who Emperor Emhyr var Emreis had assigned to find Ciri, Rience, the mage who tortured Dandelion, and Isengrim Faoiltiama, the Scoia'tael commander.
Vilgefotz had planned a sneak attack on the mages of the North while the place was under an anti magic dome. The Northern mages got wind of it, and with the help of Dijkstra's men, where able to quietly restrain the enemy mages before they could instigate their plan. But when Tissaia de Vries removed the anti magic dome, all hell broke loose. Francesca teleported in a whole unit of Scoia'tael commandos. Ciri found herself in a swordfight with Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach, she bested him and escaped. Geralt went to finish him off, then let him live when he claimed he was the one who saved Ciri during the massacre of Cintra. Geralt then fought with Vilgefotz himself, he was the most powerful sorcerer in the land and Geralt was no match for him. Vilgefotz never killed Geralt, but easily could have. He said let that be a lesson and left the near dead witcher to persue Ciri. After the battle Tissaia de Vries teleported Triss and the badly wounded Geralt to Brokilon. Then she committed suicide.

There are two unexplained suicides in that story olnorton I just find that hard to believe I can guess the first is about her dead daughter and a lost war. But why would a live for eternity sorceress do so?

dragontartare and I agree on the Triss thing. olnorton This story just tells me that Geralt should be with neither of them. It's not an illusion; more like magical plastic surgery. Geralt doesn't "see" her as a hunchback. It's just that his witcher senses paired with the knowledge that sorceresses use magic to beautify themselves allow him to deduce it from tiny "imperfections" in Yen's body (e.g. her shoulders are not quite the same height and such) and her attitude. Yennefer has a tragic backstory with abusive parents and the like. I'm a proponent of the Lone Wolf path, but even so I would recommend following the early stages of the Yennefer romance before you have to lock it in to proceed. She and Geralt have a sweet if messed up relationship. Though I wouldn't worry too much about cheating on her. For all of Geralt's reputation for sleeping around, she cheated on him first (and then treated it as a non-issue when he confronted her; it seems not even they know whether they have an open relationship or not) and as far as I've gone in the books the only mention of him reciprocating is his dalliance with Triss, and I'm inclined not to count that due to the creepy little tidbit about Triss seducing him with magic. If you don't warm up to either sorceress and are determined to go solo, you should probably know that there are only three flings in the entire game. Other than Keira they are easy to miss, so if you would like to know where to find the others read on: When you're in the Skellige archipelago you will eventually want to visit Faroe, the small island to the southeast. There's a road there which in the world map appears to lead to the middle of nowhere, but following it you will find the quest Iron Maiden (yeah).
High Stakes is the final Gwent quest. You can find it in Novigrad. It requires an entrance fee of 1000 crowns and a large collection of cards. It is a high level quest, so it is best to go for it when you've already been to Skellige and completed most or all of the Gwent quests available. You don't need to win the tournament to complete the quest or access the romance. Also, one more is added with each expansion pack, but I understand that you are guaranteed to bump into them.

It really doesn't help that you don't get to see Yenniefer until the third game. You spend most of your time with Triss and get to know her as a character. I haven't played the other two games. So, at this point, the two choices have had the same amount of screen time. Yennifer seemed jealous but affectionate and very concerned about our mutual adopted child. Had been working for the devil tofind her for quite a time already while the very Wild Hunt chased her Triss cried about her fall from grace as she hides in Darktown.... apologized for lying to me for years in an offhand way, and only concerned enough about Ciri to send me to the dreamer AFTER I helped her with the rat quest.
