Is there a side quest any of you recommend I do before hitting Skellige? If you haven't done it already (not reading all your posts right now since I am just slightly behind you in my playthrough), go and buy all the figurines from the merchant in the upper town square in Novigrad, who sells the possessions of a mage, who was recently killed. If you do, your journal will tell you that one should be brought to Triss (I guess it's too late for that if she already left but no matter) and that you should also investigate the former home of the dead mage near Oxenfort. Hilarity will ensue from there. Especially as a DA fan, you should find this amusing. Just be warned, the quest does have some ... cheesy writing.

Ha. Nailed it. The Coroner. It wasn't as bad as the Baron. The saddest part was when the doc said Priscilla may never sing again But Dandelion is all grown up. Truly in love, a fine establishment, and an ex singer to take care of. Guess that means the friends of Geralt are settled. Now I'm wondering if I should clear up these minor side quests that piled up. The completionist in says yes. The logical side tells me this game is ridiculously long and side quests can be a bit lame sometimes. I'm level 18 and not hurting on gold so why bother? Is there a side quest any of you recommend I do before hitting Skellige? Off to bed with me. I don't remember whether it was Priscilla's codex page or the text on the completed quest in the log, but I remember reading she recovers her voice even if she loses some pitch. That's also how I found out that I had let the real killer escape. Argh. As for the quests, I would recommend clearing all of the ones under "side quest" in the log that are within your level. That's where the best ones always are. There's also one where you help an elven smith named Hattori that may be somewhat high for you but which I still found doable (there isn't that much combat). I encourage you to do that one now as you get a unique sword which will be obsolete by the time you are at the necessary level for the quest (yeah, not exactly an instance of excellent design). Oh, and I believe near the docks there's a man who will ask you to find a pearl for him while you're in Skellige, so picking that one up before leaving is a good idea. The contracts are nice, but you don't miss much by skipping them other than loot and some XP.

Yes, doing Hattori's quest at the very least is a good idea. As the name suggests, he's your go-to guy when it comes to forging swords.
If I remember correctly, he's the only smith who can craft advanced Witcher swords until Blood and Wine. So if you're doing the scavenger hunt series for special Witcher gear (the best looking and most effective stuff in the game), Hattori is the one who can make the swords.

OK. Time to do the side quests available. Of dairy and Darkness goes first....And it requires me go back to Novigrad. Next. The truth is in the stars.... Winter is coming? Fixing religious statues in Defender of the Faith.... Ahhh 23 level ghouls ruuuuunnn.... Awe.. I agree with the guy but still don't want him to destroy shrines. Besides, he's picking on the religion that doesn't bite back. If he had balls he'd go tear down the Eternal Fire.

If you haven't done it yet and are in the mood for something more lighthearted (as far as that is possible in the Witcher world), do "The Volunteer", available at the Oxenfurt notice board.

Also, if you don't mind the fetching, try to grab some Witcher gear schematics. You get the locations/quests by buying maps from merchants. Those maps are marked with an exclamation mark in the merchant's inventory.
Witcher gear has some unique advantages over all the other stuff: Witcher armor reduces damage from monster attacks, which mundane armor usually doesn't, and Witcher swords give you bonus experience for killing things. In Velen you can find the parts for the Griffin armor set. It gives a bonus to Sign intensity.
The diagrams can be crafted in Crow's Perch or by Hattori, the only smiths with sufficient skills for it.
Witcher armor requires more exotic ingredients than mundane armor though - usually draconid leather and meteorite or dimeritium plate elements.

The dairy quest was weird but got me a new sword. Geralt keeps saying Triss were around to talk about statues but won't Yennifer talk about them?
And no Skellige yet. I feel like once I go there, won't bother to do these side quests otherwise... Have to do them now or possibly not at all. I'm already over leveled for a lot of them.

Did fists of Fury. Gotta say, beating the Captain's face in knowing he watched the Baron hang himself was satisfying.
So, looking at these side quests there are really only two tht stand out right now.
Sigi wants me to Kill the King
King wants me to kill Sigi's ex girlfriend, Phillipa.
There is a third one, but I turned off the game already and I'm sleepy.
The rest don't look all that intriguing. And I'm playing normal mode, so it's not like I need the best equipment. I now have 3k gold and nothing to spend it on.
I don't know about killing a king or killing Phillipa.
Phillipa is a Sorceress. Does Geralt dislike her? I'm disinclined to do it because the mad King asked me to. Also, it's hunting one of my own kind.
And then killing the King himself? He's trying only reason Emhyr hasn't taken complete takeover. That sounds like an awful idea even if I do think he's crazy.
In other news, I got the shaved head pony tail and I'm letting Geralt grow a beard. I think he feels more mature but also sad after all the loss- especially Triss. Oddly enough, after saying that, I kinda miss Kiera. Her romance followed by death was about even for me to Triss story arc.

Firstly, you have good taste. Shaved except for ponytail and a beard are my favorite stylings for Geralt too. Geralt is not very fond of Philippa Eilhart, who generally only has her own interests and those of the Lodge of Sorceresses in mind and only cares for anything else if it can be useful to further those goals. Radovid's hate for sorceresses and this entire witch hunt that's going on are based on his hate for Philippa, who once was his father's advisor and Radovid's rather harsh governess when he was a little boy. At the end of The Witcher 2, Radovid had Philippa blinded in a rather gruesome scene, but she escaped from jail later (possibly with Geralt's help). Now Radovid is obsessed with wiping out all sorceresses, but especially Philippa. Not sure if that makes the decision any easier. It is a rather big one, as you can imagine.

All these mentions of Sorceress makes me chuckle. Back when Witcher 1 came out, and I argued that they should have allowed a male & female protagonists in Gerald's world, instead of forcing everyone to play Geralt himself, there was all the outraged fanboy reaction: OMG, no, there are no Witcher women! Well, there is only one, and she's there for Geralt to sleep with her! Now, they are everywhere, but you are still shoe-horned to play Geralt. Funny, that.

A sorceress is not a female witcher, it's a female sorcerer. Very different things in the Witcher universe. Sorcerers/sorceresses are people who can wield magic power. Witchers are humans that were mutated and trained specifically to kill monsters. AFAIK, Sorcerers are born with ther talent while witchers are actively mutated and trained (though the mutation will naturally bias towards very resilient individuals since weak ones will not survive the trials). So, not sure if this was what you were getting at but there really are no female witchers. The closest would probably be Ciri, who is not mutated but she is Kaer Morhen trained in the witcher arts at least. That's not to say, you couldn't play a female character in the witcher universe. One could imagine a game where we play a sorceress or maybe a female mercenary or something like that. Playing a witcher has advantages of course, since the combination of swordplay and the signs makes for very diverse gameplay, which would be difficult to get with any other profession within the lore of this world.

I don t don't know that brand very well but from what I've heard, there shouldn't be a reason to go with such a pre-defined character there, since it's based on a P&P RPG game, not a novel/short-story series (like The Witcher was). Sorry, will stop derailing the thread now.

I've decided to do the Phillipa quest as a way of deciding whether or not I want to kill the Northern King with Sigi. I'm sure I'll have more interaction with him.
Also, that third quest I was interested in was the Roche one, Eye for an Eye. I'll check it out before the Phillipa.

Saved Ves, barely. And left the Nilfgardien soldier alive. I was only helping Roche, I was just going o go along with what he said was my reasoning. As a Witcher, I feel like only friends can pull my neutrality astray. Otherwise, these war skirmishes aren't my business.
