you guys may be amused but... I've come round on Gwent. I skipped 99% of Gwent games and horse races, and all the fist-fighting when I played. I can only imagine how much longer my PT would have taken had I done all of those as well. I skipped 99% of Gwent and then became furious when someone died because I couldn't win a card game. Played nearly all of the fist fights, and did some horse races. now that I've gotten the hang of Gwent, it's a bit thrilling. The AI will do the dumbest shit, but sometimes it's really on the edge. The biggest tip I got is get those spy cards, use them in the first round, then intentionally loose. Playing the following rounds with 12-14 cards while your opponent only has 8

The one for Zoltan's quest? That is the only Gwent game I played and won! I still kept buying cards though.

The one for Zoltan's quest? That is the only Gwent game I played and won! I still kept buying cards though. Wut! See, I never bought a single card nor played a game except at that first inn in White Orchard because someone told me the game was totally optional. So I had my ass handed to me good come Zoltan's quest.

Helped with Triss' rats. I find the conversation weird, because we totally had a relationship in TW2 and she's acting like we had a huge fight and barely came out friends... maybe she holds that whole "leaving her locked up" while I saved a Dragon thing against me after all? I did Elusive Thief Contract. Doppler- set him free of course. He said somethign like he knew how I felt by donning my skin. Dopplers feel thoughts/emotions of who they clone? It was weird to see Geralt have a twin.

6 rounds of Gwent, a round of beating someone in the face, and Two contracts later (I get such perverse joy from making these Eternal Fire/Guardsman pay full price while I let the monsters go free from teh city) I arrive at Corrine Tilly's place.

I find Corinne Tilly a bit boggling. They went out of their way to make her very interesting. Then seem to forget about her for the rest of the game. I realized that I've been buying cards I can't use? Cuz there are different kinds of decks or something, so I'd have to switch to SQuirrels to play the squirrel cards. Will be careful not to waste more money in the future. Speaking of Gwent, I resolved to get the Deed of Land back for the Dwarf by beating the guy at Gwent. Skillz. Also, the bookkeeper merchant has a Ciri Special Card I want, it has power 15 but I beat him 2/3 times and he didn't cough it up. There is this funny moment where Geralt is saying somethign akin to how appreciative of the common folk and the common life Dandelion is, then he looks over at a painting of Dandelion. And Dandelion is like, killing a lion with a big sword in his fancy outfit. <- This irony just struck me as super funny. I looted the entire inn, went through the Lover Clues with Zoltan, and then saved my game and logged out. speaking of Zoltan! I don't know if they changed a line or if I just had no concept of what Zoltan said first time I played, but he brought up he and Geralt's time of doing battle in vergen. I was about it. I may like TW2 better than TW3. night folks.

I know right! She is an excellent character who is one of the more altruistic people you meet in the game and she gets ignored! She doesn’t even have an official Gwent Card but Sarah does!

I'd forgotten to mention that I'd run into the side quest: Karmic Justice. I found it frustrating that Geralt could deduce nothing by talking to them. "Oh but that's realistic!" NO. If you have Mind Control Calming Powers, you should be allowed to use them in any situation. I remember a quest in TW2 where there was a haunted house and the guy inside needed decade old drugs to help calm him down, but there was no chance to use Axii. The inconsistency of the availaibility of this skill as an option drives me nuts. So, first time I supported the merchant and killed the elves. Reloaded. Let them kill the merchant. Neither option gives more information. Let the elves killing him stand, because this Geralt sided Iorveth in TW2. Additionally, supports why Novigrad turns on the non humans post Triss Quest.

And nothing upsets Triss more then knowing she won't get a taste of her favourite grumpy old man. As for Gwent, if you think that game is hard, way till you reach matches of this level...

There were bigger things at stake than sacrificing all for a woman who lied to me during my Amnesia for 18 months. It's annoying that CDPR puts you with Triss at start of TW2 no matter what, then breaks up the relationship no matter what before TW3. I was kinda WTF about the rose of rememberence being dried up when I had planned all along this PT to romance Triss. So in my head, they still love each other, but this magical flower says nought.

Geralt does say the rose is just a fable either way. Things did get kind of messy by the witcher 3. The devs took too long to introduce Yennefer and Triss was reduced to little more then a footnote by the last game.

Gwenty Gwenty Gwenty... I want to start playing Nilfgaard instead of Northern Realms but don't have enough Unit Cards! #Witcher problems. I don't recall it taking too long to have enough cards to make switching to the Nilfgaard deck viable. Just keep checking every merchant you come across for cards, and playing every merchant and other NPC that you can challenge for a game and you should have enough cards soon enough. The Scoia'tael and Monster decks on the other hand do become viable too late for me to have ever really bothered with them. Same with the Skellige deck in Blood & Wine.

The Scoia'tael and Monster decks are terrible even if you manage to get all the cards. Spies are way overpowered, and Northern Realms and Nilfgaard get all of them. They fixed that up in the standalone, though I still play Nilfgaard. It's a fun deck!
I think the hardest Gwent match you will ever come across is the big tournament in Novigrad (the ones in Blood and Wine might be more difficult; never got around to those). With my hilariously powerful NR deck I had no trouble with three out of the four games in that quest, but I played the one against the Nilfgaard deck like five times before beating it.
Didn't have to win to continue the quest, actually, but it quickly became a matter of pride and I save scummed the hell out of it.

Didn't have to win to continue the quest, actually, but it quickly became a matter of pride and I save scummed the hell out of it. There's a quest in B&W where you play some challenging opponents, with the added difficulty of being forced to beat them all in a row because you're immediately dumped into a cutscene/conversation between games so you can't save scum. And the Scoia'tael deck can be pretty good IMO. They get other stuff to abuse instead of the Spy cards. The Monster deck relies too heavily on the muster mechanic for my tastes, which can easily leave you screwed with a bad hand if you end up with too many of the cards you'd want to muster in your active hand, instead of the ideal situation where you'd just have the one in your hand and the others then get pulled into play for "free" once you play that one card. The chances are too high that you end up with more than one muster card in your hand because you have to put as many of the same type into your deck as possible to make them as effective as possible, but then once you get more than one into your starting hand you're basically wasting valuable cards slots since all of them get played when you play one.
