You gotta catch up with those history lessons. It wouldn't make much sense at all - immersion breaker for some and a ridiculous concept for others, but nobody would take the option from you, which what the poster was talking about. No need to get so bitter over it. A game sets it's own setting, it is history inspired not history reliant. Mass effect is completely fictional. A game can be set in a period, therefore a game has to be faithful to that period. Women during that time period lived in their houses, had barely to no importance in combat or whatsoever, that's why playing as a female warrior could be game breaking for those aware of it. We are not talking about women in Mass Effect.

Also when a game is set in a fictional world, even if that world is inspired by a particular real life period, it still doesn't necessarily have to be true to that period.

I'm terrible at creating custom characters. I'll probably start as the defaults unless I like one or more of the other presets. Then I may fool around with one of them. Otherwise I'll wait and use one I find online.
I do wish it was like Bethesda games where you can change appearance after the prologue so you can see how he or she looks in action

I think you once heard the word "example", which was what I just gave you after you failed to comprehend why the poster wants to see which Ryder fits the story the best, just like there's many who say that DAI is better enjoyed with a female elf. Example. Got it? But it can, and that's what you need to understand.

I just don't see any difference when it comes to ME games, I think there was a total of 2-3 quotes max through out the entire ME2-3 that acknowledged your sex at all.

Probably Broryder because of the voice acting, I'm kinda indifferent towards Femryder's voice. Don't dislike it, it just doesn't do much for me the way Femshep or female Sith Inquisitor did.
(Custom Ryder always).

Going for a custom BroRyder which is a big change for me. Usually go custom female when it comes to Mass Effect games. Always custom tho, even tho default Ryder is real easy on the eyes and tempting.

Default Scott first time. Hoping we can edit the default this time though so I can get rid of his 13 year olds attempt at a beard and give him a real one.

usually customize, but i do like the look of default Scott. since i'm male i usually go for male option first. shocking! I am a male but I usually always go for female option first. Is that shocking? As for this thread, custom female Ryder, most probably. And I am going to play her as much of a jerkass as possible

When it comes to rpg games that let me choose between male or female, I usually play 10 minutes of each to figure out which gender fits the story better in my opinion. What's the difference? If your looking for some logical reason for a difference I don't really have none. It's more of a feeling of how the story seems to flow with one gender or the other. It also involves possibly how the voice actors are, how npcs react to different genders, and how the general universe of the story feel with one gender or the other. I do eventually Play both genders, but my first and what will become my main playthrough is my Canon gender for that game.

Can you give a few examples of your canon genders for games? As for the topic, I'm going with default Sara, I think. I haven't done a first run with a female character since either NWN2:SoZ or Jade Empire, so it's about time. Sara looks interesting enough to play, the marketing hasn't made me sick of her yet, and I'd rather just get into the game then fiddle with the CC. Time for that later.

Custom Sara likely. I started with Maleshep the first trilogy, its time to take a womans point of view for a change. Plus ive always liked strong women characters is scifi, like Ripley.

I am still deciding which one I will pick for my first playthrough. I have heard that there are some difference in personality between the siblings. Do we know anything about what separates them? In Mass Effect it was mainly cosmetic.
Who will you pick? Discuss.
