I plan play in the early start (March 16). And right now I think: "Should I play broRyder for myself, or should I play sisRyder for Jaal?" lol I really played femShepard only for Garrus. A little uncomfortable, you can't create your OC, just cuz u want romance aliens. I hope they have gay NPC aliens, but... I'm really not interested humans in this game, no matter how good they are. I hope we will get more information up to the 16th of March. Disappointment.

Well, it IS a horror game... just kidding. No, I agree, I think generally straight gamers don't care... at last if it's not outright "forced" on them in a game where it's not expected. I agree.
The problem I have, however, is that I've seen too many straight gamers say that the content is "forced" on them when it really isn't to completely ignore. That even learning a character isn't straight is forcing "the gay" on them.
I remember old discussions where this kind of gamer would say that they wouldn't be happy with anything less than a gay toggle in the options menu, so that they can lock any content they find objectionable behind nice little walls before the game even begins and never have to subject themselves to the LGBT+ agenda that those SJWs at Bioware keep trying to "force" down their throats.
Thankfully, things have gotten better since the last time I saw that argument in earnest. Thankfully, I know that most straight gamers do not want to live in that gated bubble. And thankfully, I know that most straight gamers don't care if gay content is in a game and are happy to live and let live.
I'd blocked the 'gay toggle' arguments on Fight for the Love from my mind. Man, those were some dark times.

I don't think they were having a go at you gaycaravaggio, just stating their own position and perhaps that others getting overly stressed by the discussion take a break from the subject to feel better. Plenty of people are happy to keep theorising and collect any possible info they can find (we all have our preferences ) , the whole forum seems to have become more tense the closer we get to release (it's not your doing). Thank you. I shouldn't have responded so aggressively. Hey, we all need to blow off steam sometimes. Safe spaces and familiar faces are good for that that's what most fandom aspires to be right? Sounds like your a bit frustrated with the info/Leaks , If you feel like discussing/ranting but don't want to post in general feel free to pm me (not concerned by spoilers in the slightest confirmed or otherwise).

For me, the issue about squad vs non-squad romances isn't necessarily about the length of the romance but about how you naturally feel closer to the characters you take out in the field with you for 50+hours (more like 200 if I'm doing a run).
Yes, it's nice if they have some romance banter, some teasing from other squad mates, or maybe a bit of romantic interaction or acknowledgement while on a particular mission, but it's more about the bond that's being created through hearing their banter more generally, through fighting alongside them, hearing them give an opinion on a decision you've just made or being able to have input before you make that decision.
They become a far more well-rounded character because you see more of their personality than you would through 6 scripted encounters on the ship, whether that in-the-field content is related to the romance or not.
I don't expect or even necessarily want all romances to be squad-based, because it's nice to have different options - but to exclude just one type of player from being able to experience that added closeness altogether doesn't strike me as particularly fair.
And I repeat what I said earlier: would the writers honestly sit down and say, "We won't give Scott a straight squad romance, it's not necessary"? No, because there are some things that are considered essential - and a m/f romance is one of them. Which leaves gay men with only one conclusion to reach: I'm not as essential.

There was more backlash from that side than you'd think, especially around release. Progress seems especially slow in this industry, and I feel like it's partially due to the aftereffects of Gamergate. People are so scared of "SJW" stuff even though having LGBT characters and other minorities should be what's expected and not what's "socially progressive." Well I think it's both, but it's like "socially progressive" is a bad word for some people, when in reality it should be one of the most positive things out there. Well it's not like the "progressives" have been friendly and inviting.

Still, that whole, so called "culture war" never was really helpful...

It was really lame that South Park dedicated a whole season of the show to SJW issues. I was so sick of hearing about PC everything. I know they were championed as champions of the anti-pc movement or whatever that was supposed to be...but myself I was like, can't we go back to fart jokes or something?

Adam Fondark@fondragon @tibermoon Will you guys announce romances before launch? I really dont wanna chase someone just to realize at the end that I couldnt
Ian S. Frazier @tibermoon @fondragon Not planning on it, no. We want players to discover on their own. You won't have to spend 60 hours flirting to find out that >
Ian S. Frazier @tibermoon @fondragon a given character is or isn't an option for you, though.

I hope the dataminers can give us some answers. Also I'm starting to think Ian is not the best person to ask about romance matters. He seems to be done with the subject for the moment.

Oh that's going to bite them in the ass and depending what's there and what's not, it's going to be really bad. But...maybe the writers deserve that criticism. With each response I feel less and less hopeful and more cynical about it.

I didn't mind that they chose to focus on SJW issues, but I did have an issue with the quality of their commentary on those issues.
Instead of truly lambasting the worst of both sides like the best South Park episodes tend to do, to me, the whole season felt a bit meh, and I came away thinking, "So why bother to choose that as your issue in the first place?"
Edit: The safe space bit was pretty good though.

[ BITTER CHUCKLING] On squad vs non-squad, I greatly prefer the idea of non-squad romances. I enjoyed Cullen's romance in DAI, and, whenever I get around that game again, I'd like to try Josephine's.

I'd give up until someone gets a guide or datamines the damn game. This romance crap has turned people into monsters, as well as made some harass even poor Tom. Uncalled for. I remember having to shut down a forum I worked at once because canon couples announced in an anime nearly burnt it to the ground. I for one am done with this thread. It's unhealthy and can steal your sanity. Very toxic.

After taking some more to think about NPC vs squad member romances, I've decided that I'm okay (not happy, but okay) without having an m/m squad romance if, and only if, at least one m/m NPC romance option has Joker levels of presence throughout the game.
I could be misremembering, but I feel like Joker had a lot of content. He had some great dialogue scenes on the Normandy, and he was often in Shepard's ear when the player went on missions.
If Andromeda can give me an m/m NPC romance option who, in addition to whatever conversations we have at his specific hub, has some kind of continued interaction with Ryder while the player is in the field, I'll consider it a win.
Unfortunately, based on what we know about the game so far, the only character I can currently see fitting that profile would be SAM, and as interesting as that romance might be to write, I just don't see it happening. That is a great point, and I truly felt like the strongest relationship my Shep had with anyone in the whole game was the one he had with Joker. Joker was always there for him, through thick and thin. And you're right in that you could still interact with Joker via comm; imagine if he'd been a LI and you could have some LI-related banter with him, so I could see how it would work in MEA. That said, again, you're right; none of these proposed NPCs seem to fit the bill. It's too bad Kallo probably isn't one; he would work perfectly. As for Gil, I forget what he even does on the... Tempest, is it? And Suvi is... an engineer? I forget. Because that's how much coverage these two have had. As for Reyes (if we're even still talking about him, whoever/whatever the heck he is), he DOES communicate via comm; if that murder mystery turns out to be a main quest line... maybe we have constant communication with him throughout. Maybe he even joins us on several non-combat related operations. He could be a police officer or something.

How I feel about the MEA marketing;
Everytime there's something new, GREAT, WHAT A VICTORY, WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!
But after a moment, it sinks in. Doubt. Uncertainty. Will I be happy? Will others be happy? Do these characters have a chance at surpassing, or even matching the others? Am I too nostalgic for it to be fair? What are they hiding? Why can't the devs be honest? Does this "wait and see" approach work? Was this our fault for the ME3 backlash? When will love be equal? Will efforts even ever be enough for some people?
I find my hype... dying. Between the shitshow of marketing, sadistic or ominous devs, vitriolic fans, and uncertainty regarding how this game, three weeks before launch after five years, will even go for me... I just... IDK. Maybe I need a Snickers bar, or something.
