Be forewarned, I'm gonna sound like a pig and probably an idiot here, and that's usually not me. But here goes... I think any criticism Bioware has received over the facial design of these characters, is well warranted. I'm not talking about destructive criticism, but I gotta be honest, while I don't think Cora and PeeBee are ugly in the true sense of the word, they aren't exactly the fairest looking maidens either. "Well why should that matter?" You might say. Well...because it honestly feels a bit like whiplash to go from women who look like Liara, Miranda, Jack, ME1 Ashley, Traynor, and Samara, to....well what we have with Cora and Peebee. It's true that in real life, looks shouldn't take priority in dating. But this is suppose to be fantasy. Romance has always been one of the biggest selling points for Bioware games. So when you create average looking characters, don't be surprised when people are disappointed. It really doesn't help that female romance options in DA:I weren't winning any beauty pageants either, and the only three physically attractive women (Morrigan, Leliana and Harding) weren't romance options. While I liked Cassandra, Sera and Josie, they didn't exactly become the center of attention for fan art, the same way ME1-3's characters did. It's true that Bioware had a lot of critical success with the faceless Tali, but that's really an exception to the rule since Tali was so wonderfully written and voice acted. Not to mention it helped that she had a curvy body with killer hips to go with that personality. But is lightning gonna strike twice? My argument probably sounds like shit to a lot of you, and it's probably poorly worded too. But my main point is, they could've done a lot better. Even if we were to keep Cora's hairstyle and whatnot, they could've done a better job designing that face. There is something aesthetically off about it. I am going to romance one of them, and I look forward to learning more about them and getting to know their personality. But still....Liara had an amazing personality, but it really really helped that she also looked like a goddess. That's just me at least. I Don't think there's something wrong with your post. If you don't find them as attractive compared to the previous women in the IP, you should be free to express it. The point, I think, it's that not everyone feels the same. We have different preference and for some the new characters might be on the same rank of above some of the previous ones. I, for example, don't think either Samantha and Ashely are that particulary attractive (note, they do look good) to be some high standard. And while I think Liara was pretty, I don't rank her nearly as much as you. Face wise, Jack and Samara were, in my opinion, on the top of the list. Miranda, my favorite female character and romance of the trilogy, while she looked beautiful when her face worked properly, she wasn't modeled exactly right, which lead to uncanny valley problems and situation when her face looked way worse then, from what we saw so far, on either Peebee or Cora. I do personally think that both look quite attractive, although I'm waiting to see how they look in the full game and in the full range of animations. I do also think that Peebee got and gets a lot of criticism from her appearance in the behind the scene trailer at E3. If she was first shown as she looked at the PS4 pro footage or now, she'd get a lot less criticism for her face (while she'd still get some for other reason, like her mark/paint).

Characters have been hideous since they changed engines. I just expect it after DAI. You either make peace with new-engine-ugly-characters or you don't. *shrug* There are worse things than icky looking characters IMHO.

Without getting into the nitty-gritty, I found that while viewing Cora's kit - especially the cropped close-ups - I couldn't help but have 'Ass N Titties' playing in my head...reckon that's on the playlist in the Pathfinder's quarters?

This again? I never met an early 2000's mum (excuse the Aussie spelling there) with an undercut: Other people complaining about it are saying that it's too Miley Cyrus. Clearly it can't be both. If it's not your cup of tea then that's fine. For me it strikes a happy medium of being funky and different without being OTT. And we've seen nothing to suggest that you can't make her wear anything heavier in combat. I suspect that Bioware will try to accomodate people who want the sexy cat suits and people who want more conventional armour. I'm not an expert but I believe it started with that american reality mom of too many kids (if you google mom hair and the manager meme you'll see her. ah nevermind, I'll put imgs below); moms copied her look or maybe she was inspired by something that was already trending and it exploded. Whatever. It's just ugly, as are most variations of this hairstyle. Cora's not the same, but like I said all variation are ugly. Lol I have to admit that I haven't seen those memes before. I think with most hair styles you can have good, bad and downright awful versions of the same kind of thing, even if you don't like the style as a whole. I won't say that there are no similarities between Cora's hair and the cuts in the pics you posted. What I will say is that her hair looks way sleeker, more modern and more professional than those do. It reminds me of how lots of people tried to copy Jennifer Anniston's Friends hair when that was massive in the 90s. Even if you weren't a fan of that style, you could clearly see the difference in quality between her version and the budget cuts of some of the mimics.

My own human female Inquisitor was vile looking no matter which preset I tried to use. I know I'm probably bad at character creation, but then why were all my wardens and FemHawkes so beautiful? It's fine though, I think I can at least make a SisRyder that looks better than default.

Honestly, it's not that extraordinary. I mean it's very nice, obviously. But nothing to write home, or The Lawd, about. One guy likes butt, second guys says butt is not that great... arguing about subjective shit will always look weird to me. Also... i like her haaaaaaair.

Beat me to it. You could tell that all of those characters were designed to look attractive but it didn't always work out that way due to the way they were rendered in the games. I'm currently playing through ME1 again and the old graphics aren't that kind to Ash in close-up shots. As a side note, there's a bigger version of your profile pic on the MEA site where you can see Cora's smile in more detail. I think it looks really cute and far more natural than what Bioware has previously produced.

I play in Xbox Land, so yeah, not surprising my human wasn't great. My avatar is from Destiny, and it just amazes me what pretty characters a mmo shooter had, compared to an RPG. Go figure.

Is the difference because of the hair quality? Because the options are the same. I still saw good face made on console, so we'll have to agree to disagree. RPGS aren't in general that great, at least on vanilla versions, in terms of the player character's and often npcs appearance, with some exceptions.

The lighting on those images is really funky and flattening everything down so I will wait to make any real comment until I see them moving about and talking during the game.
The voice acting will play a huge part in if I find a character appealing, Miranda should have been right up my alley (bitchy, pale skinned, dark haired, busty girls are my thing) but her voice acting killed any interest for me, crappy character designed Fenris on the other hand was saved by the great voice.
I will say that the hair as always is not good, not so much the choice to have the hair they have, but their inability to implement those choices well.

Also @the Elder King I haven't been ignoring you, I just haven't figured out how to quote multiple people yet. But I thought everything you've said was fair.

I saw unmodded female characters that looked quite good though. I think the problem might've been that compared to the first two we didn't have sliders, which even if not giving the same range as what we got in DAI they were easier to use. I know the struggle of trying to make a good looking character in inquisition and I play on primarily a console, but I eventually made a inky that I was very happy with, it just takes some work depending on how good you are at cc. If you haven't already, you should have a look at the "post your inquistors" thread there are many unmoded inquistors from console players that look awesome and even just as good as the modded or pc inquistors. There are also tutorials and slider videos on youtube that you could use as a template if you need help creating a face that you want, so it's definitely possible even if your playing on a console, you just have to play around with the sliders a bit.

The only nice looking characters (unmodded) that I saw were all PC (I'm so jealous!). I play in Xbox Land, so yeah, not surprising my human wasn't great. My avatar is from Destiny, and it just amazes me what pretty characters a mmo shooter had, compared to an RPG. Go figure. Excellent advice, thank you. My real problem: I hated DAI and my only (completionist) playthrough was agony, so that's why my character was ugly. There's no way I could suffer through another playthrough just to have a better looking PC. Cullen was the only thing that made it bearable. It's the only BioWare game I have ever hated, so I'm really hoping it was a one time fluke.

So Cora's uniform has a butt window? I like this. I like this a lot.

I remember Gaider once talking about naming characters. It's always odd at first because people nitpick it, "I dunno, it doesn't sing to me," but once the character has had that name for a while, you cannot imagine that character by any other name. I find that to be true for physical appearances. I've seen the various objections, but I simply cannot imagine Cassandra with long hair. Her no-nonsense hair just fits her. I suspect once we interact with Cora in the game, her hair will become iconic.

I look forwarding to seeing Cora charge the shit out of things alongside my Ryder.

Eh.. I wouldn't be talking about this if Cora was not a romance option, but I don't like her face. I spend so much time in all sorts of character creators, I can just see all the sliders I have to move to make her more attractive - cheekbones higher, upper lip a bit fuller, browline lower, jawline and nosebridge thinner, chin a bit to the back. Yeah.. that would be much better.
You know what's funny though? It seems like Bioware is trying to portrait a more average woman when it comes to beauty, ''being all progressive and not setting up unrealistic beauty standards, jadda jadda...'' But here, have a dumb modelling pose and a nice wide ass-shot! That's totally fine.
LOVE her hair btw.

BTW, Cora looks more than a female than Cassandra ever did, facial structure wise, and whatnot. I really don't get it. I find her adorable... Her hair color, her cheek mole, just about EvERytHinG.
