BioWare blog entry today about New IP. Possibly Multiplayer game

But granted to the writer-offers, I am with them. From what has been touted about the IP, it sounds very disappointing.

An article a while back said that Mass Effect Andromeda is the most important game of the year, precisely because of the storytelling and character importance, and the narrative drive of the game. That it isn't following the trends of a lot of AAA developers, eschewing story completely in favor of multiplayer gameplay.

All the above ironic now after the statement on the new IP.

How so? They didn't say story is going to be completely overwhelmed by MP. Bioware actually mention story/lore and characters in their note on the game. There are huge assumptions made just because it'll (likely) have a stronger multiplayer presence compared to their other games. It doesn't mean much in regards of the story, which could still have an important role in the game.

Beside, they are still developing games focused more on the SP. I honestly don't see why they can't do different types of games, and I'm not even that big of a fan of MP components.

Remember the days when gaming was about having time to yourself and blissfully shutting yourself out from this ocean of human garbage we live in?

People are going too far writing it off, however, it is absolutely reasonable to assume it's gonna be multiplayer only. Not MMO or MOBA necessarily, but persistient online world? Yup. Destiny, Division etc.This is the trend and it was clear this new IP would head in this direction too since E3 2014. They already said all this in the interviews from that time, of course most decided to ignore them and delude themselves

You know as long as they don't have a subscription for the stupid thing or jerk over the player base who does not want to pay a subscription I might be curious in a BioWare MMO.

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of a few lines at the mo, so I'm going to reserve judgement until some more info is released & see what happens then, if it is an MMO style game, what platform is it on? As these don't really last too long on console, so will it be a PC first/only release? Will the story be linear with a set protagonist, or follow BW's usual style of at least come customisation & choices?

The Bioware formula is great but not perfect, if they want to try their hands at a multiplayer IP I don't see the problem. It could be the next Diablo, Overwatch, or Destiny for all we know so I say give it a chance before writing it off

Plus they are not abandoning RPGs.

So much this.  I've played WoW, found it to be ...    Well, lacking in the story department.  Or rather, lacking in the story department that doesn't give a fucking migraine from over half an hour trying to figure out what the author meant to say in his paragraph long run-on sentence.  Blizzard just needs to shit can that entire gaming department and move on.  Hire some real writers, some real editors.   It's not like they're hurting for cash, at this point.

And these "shorts" that everybody and their brother seem to love about Overwatch ain't gonna cut it either.  "Awww, look, he saved the butterfly.  *sob*"

Its been a well known secret that Bioware have been wanting to create a sort of shared world always online RPG(not to be confused with an MMO, the two are different) since even as far back as the time of the first Mass Effect, and coincidently enough thats the exact sort of game missing from EA's portfolio. Its one that EA have desperately been wanting to add for a while now since not only is that type of game hugely popular and generates massive income, but also because all their major competitors have their own massive franchise's which fill that role, with games such as The Division, Destiny and Warframe being notable examples, and Microsoft is releasing Sea of Thieves soon which also falls into this genre.


Shared world RPG's are great since they usually have a continous stream of content in order to maintain a strong playerbase, but they've also been blamed as being a factor in the decline of the sales of many previously strong video game franchise's, with many people choosing to stick to their shared world RPG of choice instead of buying new games. I see no problem with this tbh, shared world RPG's have proven themselves to be a much better time and money investment than the vast majority of video games this gen, so I'll happily stick to my Warframe over playing disappointments like the latest Deus Ex and COD.


I'm very interested in the setting they choose for their shared world RPG, I suspect it will Sci Fi, or a sub genre of it such as Cyberpunk, but we'll see.

So this isn't Andromeda related... so it should be elsewhere, if not merged with another thread.

Me too, but B2P or F2P suck, so... I don't believe in sustainable story-driven MMOs. I would rather they did an alternative on-line endeavour in the genres I have not tried. BioWare's style Overwatch, with SWTOR like creativity in presenting their MP component, but without all the Daily Filler of Things You Could Do if you were locked away in a 6x6 white-walled windowless room for eternity with no other potential occupations whatsoever.... a game that consists of just the high-Octaine, drop-in, play as long as you want or as little as you want per day parts of the MMOs... Zoom-zoom that!
