Every story needs a good villain, so I've been thinking about the Kett and their leader, the Archon, a lot lately. I've been wondering why exactly we are fighting them. I've seen people mention how they think they are fighting for control of the Remnant technology due to the scene in the recent cinematic trailer where it appears that the Archon is hooked up to some sort of Remnant thing. This seems plausible, because clearly the Remnant technology is important if both of us want to get it. Another thing I've been thinking about is that I think the Kett are enemies with the Angara to. The Angara seem peaceful to us, judging by the way they greet us in the trailer and the fact that we supposedly are getting a Angara squadmate, who will probably fight the Kett with us. So I think that the Kett are a warmongering species who want to destroy everyone else and take all the Remnant technology to become the dominant species, kind of like the Protheans were. What do you think the Kett are after?

Yeah, I'm definitely getting a Prothean (not that they ARE Protheans) vibe from them. In the sense that they are an Imperialistic society. The MW races are a threat mostly due to our unknown quantity to the Andromeda races. They could sympathetically see us as invaders to their domain and want to push us all back. The Remnant could very well be the Macguffin the drives everything forward. They certainly are hostile beyond being "used" by the Kett. Could very well end up being a three way fight by the end.

Yeah, in fact they kinda even look like the Protheans. They have the same kinda head shape. Also wouldn't be surprised if there were some fights between whatever those Remnant creatures are, the Kett, and us.

Kett are imperialistic and want to rule other races. The bunny/Twi'lek angara are probably the avatar race. You know, nature-loving and all that. So they're the weak ones, resisting Kett. We ally with them to beat the imperialistic Kett.
This would the the easy way out for the writing team, anyway. Hoping for a bit more than that.

That's why I'm thinking that there is more to the Remnant than what we have been shown. Of course Bioware is going to keep the big story beats close until the game is released. I'm thinking whatever motivates the Remnant will be one of them. I'm hoping it's more than a race to see who can control the high tech stuff first.

That the Andromeda Initiative races stop throwing thrash on their space backyard. Being serious, I don't believe that the Kett motives are simply to conquer everyone else, if that were true then the whole Andromeda Initiative would be doomed to fail after all according to Scott's words "we are explorers, not a army" and besides that we are just a few tens of thousand strong. So if the Kett were truly interested in conquering everything there would be nothing we could do to stop them.

BW has said that they don't want to portray the whole Khet species as evil. My theory is that the Archon's group is some kind of cult or outlaw faction within the Khet (hence the religious-type names), which is looking for the key to galactic domination. I'm guessing that the Khet as a whole will be less aggressive towards the MW species, provided that their territory is respected. Sort of like how the Jaws of Hakkon were openly hostile while the Avaar as a whole were simply wary.

Some Kett could have rebelled against it. Could there even be a case that the Kett are in the middle of a civil war and Archon's side is winning?

I think it'd be a good twist if Archon turned out to be a good guy (overzealous but still good) and is just trying to stop some Remnant doomsday weapon or something.

They want cheese ofc but we didn't bring any so now they're trying to kill us Do you think they would do the same thing they did with geth "Oh, the ones fighting you are totally not true Kett, they are just heretics who want universe domination"?

I hope not. If they want to do something like that I'd rather it be more like the batarians, not every kett is evil but their government is.

Moaar Powar!
I seriously hope not. But it does look like it's being setup as a one path narrative. The Kett are a threat to the AI's settlement endeavors and seriously outnumber us, so we join up with the only other alien race capable of standing against them. The greater threat could be the Remnant tech itself.

Steak... They 'ucking want STEAK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But for real, I think they want to go "Prothean" path, i.e. "You work with/for us - you're set, you 'uck with us - YOU DIE". Remember, that Shinobi602 already teased, that Kett intentions aren't necessarily 'evil'... this reminds me of: www.darkmeme.com/wp-content/uploads/memeone-memes/54e765d61171b.jpg

What do you think the Kett are after? Uh, I saw Ryder being escorted in at gunpoint. Was that a different part of the trailer?

If in the end WE are the bad guys or even the lovely Angara ARE the bad guys, I would be pleased. I want a plot twist. Plus, what if in the end we have freaking Archon as squadmate? I mean, we have his Funko figure. Maybe he is like Legion, he joins later in the party when the plot twist (JienIsEvil! WeAreTheBadGuys! TheAngaraPlayedUs) happens

They're probably just being cautious since a large group of unknown aliens just showed up in their part of the galaxy.

I didn't interpret it as necessarily being escorted at gunpoint against our will, I was thinking it was more as a sign that they could trust us. Also, I feel like the way they spoke about us seemed very respectful and formal, it didn't seem very antagonistic. That's all just how I see it though.

Perhaps, but I don't think I'm ready to jump in and say they're allies just yet. Surely some of them will be, but I'm actually hoping for a bit more complexity between the races than just "These are the good aliens" and "These are the bad aliens".
