Don't know why but I sort of assume Thessia got hit harder than Earth or Palaven. Maybe Shepard's reaction had something to do with it. I could also see why the Reapers might go hard for a world full of biotics. And I'm not anti-asari the way you are. You misunderstand. I'm talking about what will/what might happen to them after the reaper war. They refused to show up for the summit. They failed to reveal the artifact earlier Setting aside Indoctrination Theory (look it up if you're interested; I'm not a believer), it seems like TIM was able to use dark energy to control the minds of others. Given that asari can already mind meld this isn't really a stretch. It's just not something we've seen biotics be able to do. TIM wasn't able to mind control Shepard or Anderson. He was able to control their bodies. Both were able to say whatever. If he was controlling their minds, especially Shepard's, Shepard would not be able to have TIM shoot himself. The whole scene was bad. He already proved his point that he was able to control both. Having Shepard shoot Anderson was overkill. Then again, I would never have Anderson on the Citadel at all

I feel like the Destroy ending means you have little faith in organics and synthetics coming to a peace you may have actually already witnessed as Shepherd between the Quarians and the Geth. Not necessarily. Shepard could also not trust her own personality with the power of Control and find Synthesis horrifying, or immoral, or some such. In which case Destroy becomes the best choice of a bad lot. But if a Shepard of mine feels the way yours did -- and most of them think the Catalyst was just wrong about everything -- then she typically won't pick Destroy. Unles the geth are no factor by that point, which changes the stakes.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you seem to be assuming that I think it's guaranteed that they can get EDI back exactly as she was, when in fact I have said that is NOT the case, but only that there is a possibility of getting her back in some form. Well, it's the "in some form" part that's the substance of the debate. Is any AI installed in the Normandy and named EDI actually EDI? The personality will be randomized. (And the soul will be different, if you think that souls are actually a thing.)

I'm going to play ME1. I never made it past somewhere between hour 5 and 10, gave up, and skipped ahead to ME2 an entire year after my first attempt at the Trilogy. Now I've come to love Shepard and even played MEA.
I'm possibly quite spoiled on everything in ME1 of significant note. But maybe not. So I'll put my PT stuff right here until I finish ME1.
I'm considering doing two PTs of ME1 at once. Female Paragon Shepard and Male Renegade Shepard and carrying both those save files forward. That way, I can see what I hope are the drastic differences and outcomes while I'm still used to these games controls.
Will also be editing OP to explain why I'm necroing my own thread. ^^

I lean Sniper as a preference, should I go total opposite for Renegade Male Shep and choose Biotic? I've literally never played biotic in any of the Mass Effect Games.

Are you going to pick different classes for each? Hmmmm. Sure, why not. I lean Sniper as a preference, should I go total opposite for Renegade Male Shep and choose Biotic? I've literally never played biotic in any of the Mass Effect Games. It might depend on if you have happened to unlock any of the weapons bonus talents in your first attempt (by shooting 150 enemies with, say, an assault rifle). If you haven't, the infiltrator is restricted to only using the sniper and pistol, the vanguard can only use pistols and shotguns, and the engineer, adept, and sentinel can only use pistols. The soldier can use any weapon. If you have unlocked the assault rifle bonus talent, then you might consider tacking it on to the pistol only classes so you have an alternate weapon. There are missions where the enemies will agressively sabotage you... causing you to be unable to shoot or use powers until after the weapon goes through an extended cooldown. It's handy to be able to just switch weapons at that point to keep shooting. I like the infiltrator (which is most like Garrus), but TBH, it's not a whole lot different from playing a soldier for me. The biggest difference is that the soldier has to take 1 squadmate with decryption (sabotage power) and electronics (overload power) abilities with them at all times (either Kaidan or Garrus) or else you can't unlock the crates. The infiltrator has these skills in their own skill tree, so it's possible for them to take, say, Ashley and Wrex on the same mission and still be able to unlock everything. For the biotic classes, the Adept has singularity (like Liara), which is very powerful, probably the most powerful in the game. The vanguard (like Wrex) doesn't have that power, but can use a shotgun in addition to a pistol. The human vanguard can wear medium armor (if you have a tendency to take a lot of hits); whereas, the adept can only wear light armor. The sentinel class is most like Kaidan and the engineer class is most like Tali.

@upagain
Femshep is going to romance Kaidan, so he'll always tag along. So she can be a soldier according to the talents of Kaidan. But I remember liking Infiltrator in ME3, so if I go that route, she just wont need Kaidan for that reason.
MaleShep is going to romance Ashley, so she'll always tag along. I think regardless of class, I'm not great at avoiding being hit, so maybe he should go Vanguard? But if someone prefers I play a Biotic, I'm willing to give it a shot. I just get underwhelmed by the lack of notice about Biotic skills in a Shepard/Ryder.

I think biotics are similar (not completely) to mage classes. It's funny, then, that I like it because I rarely play mage in DA. I have a preference for rogue. I

I just get underwhelmed by the lack of notice about Biotic skills in a Shepard/Ryder. That's right. Just be aware that Infiltrator in ME1 doesn't have a tactical cloak; and ME1 vanguard does not have charge. MaleShep, as a vanguard would need to take either Garrus, Kaidan or Tali (sorry, I forgot to mention her before) to have both decryption and electronics available. With Ashley always along, you won't be able to use Wrex or Liara, although you might want to consider leaving Ash behind on Wrex's LM (even though you aren't actually required to take him along). If you want to try an Adept (it's fun), you could wait to start your playthrough until you have unlocked another weapons talent. Once you get the achievement (150 kills with that weapon), you can add the bonus talent to any class that doesn't naturally use that weapon. That means any weapon other than the pistol can be added to an adept class if you start the file after you've gotten that achievement. I should add, I know you're playing on PC and have access to mods. You might want to check if there is a mod and unlocks all the bonus talents right away then you don't have to worry about waiting to start the second file.

Soldier/Infiltrator FemShep Team: Kaidan and Wrex/Garrus
Vanguard/Biotic MShep Team: Ashley and Tali /Wrex
Only leaving out Liara who I find mostly just weird anyway.
Are these bad team setups mechanically?
Is there any missions that have great involvement from the companions, as @upagain mentioned not bringing ASh on Wrex's LM, for example.

Soldier/Infiltrator FemShep Team: Kaidan and Wrex/Garrus Vanguard/Biotic MShep Team: Ashley and Tali /Wrex Only leaving out Liara who I find mostly just weird anyway. Are these bad team setups mechanically? Is there any missions that have great involvement from the companions, as @upagain mentioned not bringing ASh on Wrex's LM, for example. With the vanguard (who also has neither decryption nor electronics), Ashley/Wrex team will not be able to open any crates; Ashley & Tali will work OK. For Wrex's LM, you won't want Ashley and Wrex, you'll want Wrex and either Garrus, Tali or Kaidain (sorry if I wasn't clear on that before). For Garrus's LM, you'll want to consider taking Garrus and Ashley for the Vanguard With the Soldier, taking Kaidan will work throughout regardless of who else you have with you. So take Wrex and Kaidan on Wrex's LM and then take Garrus and Kaidan on Garrus's LM. In either case, you may want to consider taking Liara during the mission on Noveria (for dialogue reasons). Again, it's not actually required. Liara has electronics; but no other squadmate has just decryption, so you'll still need either Garrus, Tali or Kaidan (who have both) along with her. For dialogue reasons, you'll also want to do a round of the Citadel with each different pairing. They have different dialogues with each other in the elevators and at certain points around the Citadel (such as the Krogan statue and the Relay Statue).

@upagain So Vanguard/biotic Maleshep should have Ashley and Tali as his main team to be able to open crates. I guess I'll let Femshep have a Kaidan/Wrex team then. I'm trying to Bring LI plus "Character who has most of their character development in ME1" along. Tali and Wrex were strangers to me in ME2/ME3 (although I grew quite fond of Wrex) and I don't know Ashley AT ALL. Garrus, however, gets to be a full companion in 2 and 3 so I can pass on him well enough. But I suppose I was hoping to get to know him better to understand why people want to romance him. Choices must be made though.

Choices must be made though. Keep in mind that there really isn't any combat banter in ME1 like there is in ME3 and certainly no "Mako banter" like the "Nomad banter" you get in ME:A. There is some banter in the elevators that can reveal some personal things about the squad (but you can usually catch everything between any two of them by doing a single round of taking elevators and clicking on them at various viewpoints.. Everything else you're going to learn via the conversations on the ship, of which there are only about 4 each for non-LI's, with a total of 3 more related to the romance itself). With Garrus and Wrex, one conversation is completely about acquiring their LM. There is one dispute possible, depending on how you play out your romance dialogue choices. In short, I don't think you're going to miss much in the way of getting to know Garrus better by not taking him... but you're also not going to learn much more about Kaidan by taking him with you on absolutely every mission. If you're getting bored with the combat and want to mix that up a little, don't be afraid to change out your squads.

But I suppose I was hoping to get to know him better to understand why people want to romance him. BECAUSE HE'S AMAZING. ACCEPT IT. In seriousness, I hadn't played ME1 at all yet when I decided to romance Garrus. I wanted to romance him based on his introduction in ME2 and how he was the first person that I really felt Shepard was safe with. I recall you not really liking his vigilante tendencies in ME2, so it could be that Garrus will never be your thing. However, considering that you like Cullen, I think you might like where Garrus's romance ends up going in ME3, but I can't tell you why without spoilers.

I will add one specific mission that you might want to consider taking Kaidan with you regardless - UNC: Hostage. It isn't officially an LM in that he doesn't request anything of you, but he does provide some unique insight on that mission.

Additionally, the save file I'd imported made Garrus think I was being really OOC. He's all like "Shoot people!" and I'm like "Don't shoot people!" and he's like, "WTF, you used to tell me to shoot people all the time! what's wrong with you! GAH! annoying, fine I won't shoot people." So ummm.... ya, i guess there was just a character disconnect going on there.

There are actually two slightly different ME2 Garrus's, depending on how you converse with him in ME1. If you stick to the paragon (upper left or right) in ME1 and you take the shot during his LM, he comes across a little less gun ho vigilante in ME2. If you stick to the renegade dialogue in his ME1 conversations and let him take the shot, then it comes across as though he's learned how to be a renegade from you. So, in that phoray used another person's import file, she may have grabbed one where Garrus was more of a renegade... don't know.

Do a walkthrough of the Citadel at certain points or any time? There's a section after the tutorial where you have to be on the Citadel. Beyond that, it's a good idea to return at least twice more before heading into the endgame - where you will be summoned back to the Citadel. There is one side quest that takes 3 visits in all to complete (Conrad Verner's). I like to go back every time I Level Up during the early game (except if on a main mission in which case you'll probably level up more than once during each one). Why? Because the shop inventories randomly change, and I like some of armor gear that's pretty rare (Rage armor for Wrex is a bitch to get). So I probably go back to the Citadel about 10 times per game depending on how lucky I get with the shops. Later on, their inventories change every 5th Level (I think - I'd have to look it up for sure). When I go to the Citadel, I make sure to take a different pair each time so I hear their different elevator conversations. Some of them are quite funny (ones with Wrex in particular).

Almost done installing mods. Got the very important "Controller" mod, "Faster Elevators", then Large Address Aware pathc, now on MEUITM (sp) and it took a LONG while to DL for some reason.
Then I just have two hair mods, one each for fem shep and male shep, and I'll be ready to go.

So like... Do a walkthrough of the Citadel at certain points or any time? I would do everything possible when on the Citadel for the first time. You level up without much fighting involved. By the time you get back on the SR1, you might at about level 12-13. What this does is give you points to put in whatever talents/powers you want to upgrade, making it easier in a fight. I would suggest going back to the Citadel after each main mission is completed. Go talk with Udina and Anderson. There will be other side missions that will become available on the Citadel. When shopping, make sure to purchase all licenses to get better gear.
