People may get ticked at me for saying this but I think this is just another DAI knockoff like the locations you killed some enemies and poof! Up springs a little mini camp populated that now has your crafting and stores and such. Yeah I think so too. I am at least hoping there is a progression system with each colony though to do some kind of preset upgrades. I like that we can at least pick the locations and assign colonists accordingly

can we see/visit those settlements and the people living there? This is all I've seen so far: You can create settlements. 'Find a suitable planet and on that planet a good spot and you can create your own little communities scattered through the systems.' There is a limit, because there is a limit of people on the Hyperion It could be similar to the old planet scanning mechanics, but I imagine we will get at least a few communities to visit. It would be weird to not be able to see those people. Here's hoping there's defense missions that occur over time.

I'm fully expecting this to turn out like the campsites in inquisition I got bored with Inquisition really quickly. Can you remind me what the campsites were? I think that MEA settlements will ultimately turn out to be a pretty uninspired minigame, but I hope I'm wrong.

I actually enjoyed the settlement building feature in Fallout 4, but it has no place in a Mass Effect game, because it would distract too much from the story. I also thought resource gathering in Inquisition was rather tedious, so I hope they revamped that a bit, giving us multiple items per scan. Something like in The Witcher expansion or Assassin's Creed with a sensible amount of required resources might work well. They tried with Skyhold in Inquisition, which only failed because they gave you the option to plant a garden in the middle of war, without allowing you to clean the rubble blocking the way to the war council... and fix holes in the walls. Since we'd likely build new structures in Andromeda, that shouldn't be an issue. Yeah although enjoyable in Fallout 4 I found it diverted me from the main story. I found myself spending more time building settlements than progressing through the game and lost interest in the protagonists story which is kind of a problem for a so callled RPG. Given that the game did not have a particularly strong storyline or characters to begin with this meant any story game momentum ground to a halt. I did enjoy the feature but it may be problematic in an RPG as it can stall the narrative and character progression as the player can become easily sidetracked. Maybe these game elements would be better implemented as unlockable late game quest related features dependent on significant character/story progression. I also found resource gathering in DAI a bit of a snooze fest. Yeah, something like the Blood and Wine vineyard, or, a closer example, a more expanded version of Shepard's apartment in ME3: Citadel would be keen, but Fallout 4 style seems like a bad idea. Agreed it does kill the story. It was enjoyable at first but after many times it became a Fallout Bore. Few times in F4 that got me asking: "What was I doing again?" Another where done horribly is in 4x spacial games like Galactic Civilizations -especially when they have you have to come back to defend said colony.

I don't think it has the same function of the camp sites of inquisition, for the simple fact they already said the stations you can call off like in the VGA trailer have that function.

Title says confirmed, so this is actually going to be in the game? I voted no in any case, but I don't think it's a garbage idea. Some games have done it well. I just don't think it's in BioWare's wheelhouse. They should just focus on the primary reasons people buy their games. Anyone who votes the second option will be murdered by kittens at night. Silently. EDIT: You asked for it. Thread done.

Ah, but I like the fact that I can get distracted from the story. I honestly don't want Bioware and EA to have any Mass Effect game going forward to be anything like ME2 and ME3 besides story. They were so straightforward with no exploration or side content to distract you that it was like playing another uncharted game in space...with dialogue trees. It's a given that Bioware will make a good story. They've already proven they can do that. The jump from last gen to current gen needs to have more immersion and more mechanics otherwise it will just seem like a prettier version of last gen Mass Effect. (But then again, I would be happy with basically Witcher 3 in space with a Mass Effect caliber story)

Didn't even know about this. Possibly have this again but on the Nexus where you can upgrade and display collectibles, armor, weapons, etc would be awesome too. I believe the Pathfinder does get customizable quarters on the Nexus. They showed Sara in it. At least I think that's what it was. In one of the early briefings.

Till you find that you have not done a single mission in 40 hours of game-play... again F4 looking at you. Sometimes things can be to distracting. Also by chance what is the total number of settlements people have created in say F4? I had over 150 using mods. And to reiterate: Sometimes things can be too distracting.

And I had to go back and renovate them all after the season pass and then again after the ps4 got minimal mods. I'm pretty proud of my vault. Can stream my settlements for ya if you want to share ideas. I guess I just never mind the getting distracted part as long as the game doesn't force you to deviate from the story too much. I want games with tons of diverse content so it can appeal to anyone or just whatever mood I'm in.

I don't see much sense in scattering settlements all over the place when you've got an already tiny population. You're just making yourself vulnerable.

Anyone who votes the second option will be murdered by kittens at night. Silently. EDIT: You asked for it. All things considered, not a bad way to go. If it's more interesting and better implemented than FO4, I might be enticed. But usually these things are overly complex to the point of tedium because it usually means spending hours scouring the countryside for elfroot and the like followed by hours crafting hundreds of different objects. If settlement building was more like buying a kit with most of the essentials and then laying out the settlement based on strategic location and whatnot, that would be better imo. Then maybe you could add a few cosmetic things after the fact to personalize it a bit more. That's about the extent of settlement building I'm up for.

Full paragraph from article: I agree so much with the article, its kind of dancing on a razors edge. I just hope its not tied too heavily into the main story and it does not block off too much content if I, as an individual, don't like it. I mean I think I could really, really, like this system. But one of the only real frames of reference I have is FO 4s system, which I hardly used, but thought kind of sucked and was a chore when it was and did not connect to anything and was overly complicated....so maybe I will grow to like it if BioWare puts their usual story twist on the mechanic afterall

Then when you go back there are small buildings and plowed land or mine shafts and what have you.

I just hope this isn't going to be like the fallout 4 settlement quests. You know the one big difference is BioWare has NEVER. EVER. (at least as far as I am aware) done any of the crap radiant quests. People think fetch quests are boring? Well Fall Out gave us RADIANT FETCH QUESTS. If BioWare ever does do a radiant quest....well its really not their cup of tea, at all, because they like things going to script.
