Hell no! I never have had or never will have anything like Netflix or HBO. If it's not on basic cable then I'm not interested. What world do you live on? Or what year do you live in? It's 2017. Some of the best shows ever made are on both.

No because I refuse to pay the ridiculous cost my cable company charges for HBO for just one show. I don't like shows based off books or games because the casting rarely fits with the idea I have in my head how the characters look and behave. Not calling you out specifically, so don't take offense to this. But I have a big problem with this line of thinking. Why would a show have to 100% reflect the original source material? Even GoT didn't do that, although they stuck closer to the source material than most adaptations do. And why does the main character not reflecting your own idea of the character take away your enjoyment of the media to the point where you dislike it? I have my own idea of Shepard, but I'd love to see a movie or show based on the original trilogy. I don't give a rat's ass if Shepard isn't close to my idea of Shepard. I just want another way to explore the universe. It doesn't have to be 100% of the source material. I know better than to expect that because it isn't even possible. I did enjoy the Harry Potter films and The Lord of the Rings films, even though they had to change/leave out much of the story, but I've seen enough shows that were so totally off from the books that they were unrecognizable. And for me, a beloved character lives in my memory and when they're portrayed as so wildly different from that image, it is just too jarring and the mannerisms of the actors just don't jibe with what I have in my head. It just becomes something entirely different and I con't care for it. I wouldn't want to see my Shepard look and act differently from how I created him and her (I played both) because they just wouldn't be Shepard to me. What I wouldn't mind is to take an NPC or some other crew member and explore the ME universe through them. Or even create an entirely different character unrelated to Shepard in the same timeline, while hearing about Shepard and their exploits from a peripheral view.

It would be great, but I'll have to say no because I don't think they could do it justice. The aliens would have to be CGI, too much CGI for TV... and TV can't reproduce the depth of character interactions like an RPG game can. You know what, it could work if it was an animated series, like the Star Wars shows, but for a more adult audience, rather than family friendly. Yes, some species could only be represented with CGI, but I think several of the main ones could be managed with make-up and prosthetics on human actors. Also puppets - like Yoda. It would still be a pretty expensive undertaking. Rubber suits aren't cheap.

Yeah, those of us who live in the civilized parts of the world forget how bad it can get out there. I couldn't get bad enough broadband to care about Netflix' bandwidth even if I wanted to, and nobody's selling capped plans. Still, this is a problem with your community's infrastructure, not Netflix or HBO.

What a company that gets people excited about watching something that they find out later they can't have -Stranger Things. A show that I would not mind watching after seeing its commercials on local TV -BUT will never watch due to issues we have already discussed and the necessary money -NOT the sub fee. If they are going to be a streaming-media provider then don't be putting commercials for their crap on local TV getting us all hyped for something never will we see.
I live in a civilized rural town and no it may not be the most infrastructurally sound city in the world as say the mighty Manhattan but it can hold its own. I refer to the fact that us people who with life being what is can not afford the complexities of not only shelling out crap load of dollars to go and upgrade our internet speed and then also having to shell even more money to upgrade the very hardware needed to work with these streaming sites.
Which in my own personal view only T3 or fiber-optic compliant should be the BARE-MINIMUM -especially if I am going to be streaming media) -a process that right now would exceed nearly $4000 for me personally to upgrade everything-they would have to rewire the whole house and even put in the lines from the nearest major city).
As to HBO... I could careless. Sure their stuff may be good at first but as time drags on it falls harder than Saren through the Citadel floor. Also not a company I favor who use vile manipulative means just pull in different crowds -I mean having ten different channels and seriously Sesame Street? I will stick to the classic TV shows -that I can watch on the TV.
So I am to done with this.

That's silly. Where else would a streaming service show ads in the first place? They can't lose out on exposure just because some shlubs in Podunk Darkzoneville don't have enough wires in the ground around their teepees to stream video over the interwebs.

The Expanse is my Mass Effect fix, absolutely loving it (in tandem with reading the books too, so good!). An HBO produced full budget Mass Effect adaption of the trilogy with an unknown but amazing shep actor (not some fucking Colin Farrell or whatever) would be my dream come true....but I guess the eventual film, if it ever gets made, will have to do. Mass Effect 1 would make for an amazing TV series in my opinion...easily the best and deepest story of the trilogy, so much flavor and imagine the CGI Hanar and fan favourite elevator ride conversations complete with that elevator music from the game...fuck me sideways, I'm slightly rigor mortis thinking about it.... "This One would watch a Blasto Infused TV show anytime".

I am confused.
I'm seeing ME being compared to GoT, but I can't imagine two franchises more different. Something ME based does not even sound to me like the type of show HBO would be interested in airing — it's not nearly decadent enough.
Netflix sounds more viable, but have you seen how much space opera and science fiction in general is airing these days? I don't think ME would stand out as much as the OP suggests.

Netflix sounds more viable, but have you seen how much space opera and science fiction in general is airing these days? I don't think ME would stand out as much as the OP suggests. So it all depends on the writing and character development vs the not so great action sequences and cgi. Stuff on Scifi typically comes off as corny or hokie. Game of Thrones would be nothing but a nerd fest if it wasn't for better character development, writing, adult themes, and twists. It's basically a glorified soap opera set in fantasy world. what would normally be terrible except to select few could be good if done right. Besides the CGI being an issue, the side of Mass Effect's space drama could translate well if done correctly. Again do new characters different from the games, and make them easily expendable once we've grown to know them. If it's just ridiculous action with mediocre CGI then no, it won't translate well. If it sticks to the morality and relationships of specific characters set throughout the galaxy with some great action scenes every now and then, I believe it could be a hit. At the end of the day, the Mass Effect setting would serve as the backdrop and setting. What makes a show like GOT great are the twists and unexpected (gratifying) deaths. So you're right if done poorly. There are superhero shows that suck and there are some that are great. Same argument can be said so it comes down to quality.

An insane budget would be needed to do this well. You're not just talking about doing sci-fi well, but getting the aliens right, also. It's not likely to be feasible. That said, of course I'd watch it if someone were willing to take on the expensive challenge.
Storywise, any program or film will do well to steer well away from the games. The galaxies are huge places with plenty of stories to tell. Retreading old ground would be foolish.

So I am to done with this. As someone else mentioned, this is silly. Too silly to make anyone mad, I'll wager. Living somewhere with no real broadband options sucks, but that's not Netflix' fault. I don't know how they could advertise in a way that wouldn't offend your tender sensibilities. I'm sure they'd avoid showing you their ads if they could, since reaching you is of no value to them. Your analysis of HBO's business practices is divorced from reality. An HBO subscriber gets all of the HBO channels at once. In what universe is giving your customers more viewing options vile and manipulative? Besides getting the actual broadband connection, what sort of hardware upgrade are you talking about? An Amazon Fire Stick is $40.

If they were to do this it would be better to do an entirely new story that doesn't even reference Shep and company in a way that would canonize any choices the player makes during the trilogy. Though personally I'd rather it be on Netflix or something, just because HBO is an awful service in Canada if all you care about is watching Game of Thrones on your PC. This is my thinking as well. All video games that become movies (or even television shows, or the other way around *cough*Quantum Break*cough*) uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... Suck. The only successful adaptations of these games are like BioWare did with Star Wars and KoToR. I would be fine with telling somebody else's story during the reaper invasion, but not Shepard. Not anybody involved in the game.

Again, a prequel would suffice. First Contact Wars. The first season could be about the origins of the human race finding the mass relay and I guess discovering the advantages of element zero? The CGI characters would be the Turians. If the show was successful enough in it's first season, it would continue past the first contact war. The drama, character development, and story would mostly be focused on the Human race at first.
I don't know much about the first contact wars but it seems like we would not come across the Asari, Krogan, Salarians, etc

Netflix or Amazon. The number of people who subscribe to those services would, I think, be the same people who play the game(s).
