Would you ladies and gents be interested in HBO or Netflix creating their own version of Mass Effect (either the original trilogy or a completely new story/protagonists possibly set in the Milky Way during Shepard's time)? Better Question: Do you think it would be successful? With GOT's huge success, I think it would be a hit among main stream audiences if done properly.
The story and lore is too detailed for a movie adaptation to be any good. If any of you are Game of Thrones fans, I think you know that HBO has every capability to successfully produce a Mass Effect series a few years from now. None of us would want Mass Effect on the small screen without the adult themes, awesome space violence, and deep story. Edit: Netflix Too
Just thought of this idea after being around all the filming for the Walking Dead and most Marvel movies here in Atlanta. Many people I know would become instant fans of the lore and stories but are unfortunately ignorant to the story because the aren't gamers. Maybe they can get James Gunn to produce or direct a few episodes considering he's a big fan.
Discuss on whether or not you would think it would be successful regardless if you want it to happen or not. What are your ideas?
Edit: After some discussion, I personally would like to see the First Contact Wars brought to life on the small screen or big screen. The Turians at that point would be the only characters who require CGI the majority of the time. It would still fall into Mass Effect Canon being a prequel to the OT. The show or movie could be about the Human race discovering the The Charon Relay outside our Solar System orbiting Pluto, the drama behind the decision to use it, and the beginning of the First Contact Wars. Humans would use traditional weapons until we learn to harness mass effect fields and mass accelerators to improve their arsenal.
I think one of the main characters (as I don't like having just one main character in a tv series) should be a younger Alec Ryder. (Someone hire Emily Blunt for this as well!) The show should incorporate the war from both Races' points of view and the development of the characters on both sides similar to Game of Thrones' development.
If the show is successful, the producers can continue the series to include more races and story as their budget expands.

No because I refuse to pay the ridiculous cost my cable company charges for HBO for just one show. I don't like shows based off books or games because the casting rarely fits with the idea I have in my head how the characters look and behave.

If they were to do this it would be better to do an entirely new story that doesn't even reference Shep and company in a way that would canonize any choices the player makes during the trilogy.
Though personally I'd rather it be on Netflix or something, just because HBO is an awful service in Canada if all you care about is watching Game of Thrones on your PC.

An adaptation of the original trilogy for TV made by HBO would be awesome, but only with Emily Blunt as Shepard.

Why not? At least with HBO you know that if it turns out to be shit you'll still have lots of gratuitous nudity.

No, I don't think HBO does a good job with shows. I would not want Mass Effect subjected to that.

i'd only go with hbo under one condition: the show would have to be utter perfection, like the wire, and not ultimate trash like game of thrones. that is the worst show that has ever been created...but then again, mass effect is the worst game that has ever been created, so it might be fitting for the tv show to be complete trash too

I imagine most of the people here would probably be more concerned about it being faithful to the Mass Effect lore and being an enjoyable show rather than it having record breaking ratings. Personally I only really care about ratings for a show I like so far as they're needed for the show to continue being made.

I'm gonna be the silly one here and voice my preference for an animated spinoff story detached from the Shepard epic. I don't think that Mass Effect would ever translate well to live action affair. Netflix would be the one more likely to pull that off.

Well, that depends on how much you'd like a series or movie to succeed. As a fan of Dredd, I was disheartened that it didn't make enough at the box office, resulting in any hope of a sequel vanishing.

No. It really bugs me to see the characters with a different faces/voices. I'm all for CG movies with the same voice actors, though.

Just going by how episode releases are handled, I rather have Netflix then HBO for it seems HBO shows start to feel padded out after while, not as bad as AMC though. The other problem I have with HBO is how their content is released outside of the US, for unless I pay a lot of money I don't have access to their content.

It would be great, but I'll have to say no because I don't think they could do it justice. The aliens would have to be CGI, too much CGI for TV... and TV can't reproduce the depth of character interactions like an RPG game can.
You know what, it could work if it was an animated series, like the Star Wars shows, but for a more adult audience, rather than family friendly.

I could see thm doing all CGI a few years from now. Maybe a mini series instead of multiple seasons. Maybe the only to do a live action is by doing a big screen production. I would want it to be closer to rated R than PG-13 though with a mix of adult humor and mild humor of Guardians of the Galaxy.

HBO has a lot of money tied up in WestWorld and something like Mass Effect might be too expensivo for them, right now.
The better bet is NetFlix because they will use an independent production company and the money will be raised from more diverse sources. A decent 6-10 episodes a year series might be pretty good for them.
One dark horse to toss out there: Amazon's parallel universe show Man in The High Castle is outstanding. The downside would be the fees you'd have to pay to get Amazon Prime (it's pricey) but they could pull it off.
