Who s ascending for andromeda ?

I've ascended to 900p/30FPS. Get on my xbox level suckers

I may grab a scorpio after it releases if reviews are solid and they offer upgrades to games I care about. If not, I'll stick with my current xbox.

I can probably run it okay on a GeForce 660, we'll see.

I should be OK, I can run Dishonored 2 at about 30 fps on medium resolution without major frame drops.

But I might get a new video card although my 760GTX should be generally OKish.

I sometimes look at 2nd hand gaming rigs, as i dont care being on the frontier performance wise. But i m a bit lost and a hardware noob.
Most of them second hand are 18 month old or more and look not even 20% cheaper... I thought there wld be a big market for those, but i havent found it.

yeah, seems processor have not stepped up for a long time now, core i7 still rules AFAIK.  GPU on the other hand ...

newegg.com has the 6GB EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 for around $260. I might go ahead and get one of these, assuming it will fit in my case. I'll take the measurements later. I'm supposed to be in bed now!

Yeah that one's got the 6-pin power connection.  There are like 2 or 3 variations of the EVGA which have 6-pins, though the vast majority have 8-pins.  So will definitely be comparing with the one you posted, though end of the day they're all extremely similar.

EVGA does have one 6-pin that's a fullsize card, as opposed to these little halfsize diddies, atm I'm researching if there's an advantage to this (noise/heat levels, etc)

This is fullsize model.  The little ones just have a fan on them, which could mean higher noise and heat levels.  This fullsize one has the blower out the port in the back of your PC, meaning hot air is actually circulated out of the pc, making the card not run as hot and the fan not run as much.

It would be a really tight fit though, but it should work.

Here's a post on EVGA forums to beware of cards with ACX 2.0 fans, such as the halfsize cards we're considering.  I think the fullsize EVGA with the blower is the best option for 6-pin power connections, especially in light of this.

The post refers to dual-fan cards specifically, but EVGAs website details the cooling systems of each model, and the halfsize 6-pins are using ACX 2.0.

That said, it looks from the pictures that EVGAs cards have clear vents.  I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at when I view that area of the Zotac.

This is literally not an issue if you have halfway decent airflow inside your case. Now if you're putting it inside a microscopic case, or don't have any case fans at all (in which case what are you doing), then it's something to keep in mind.

Whatever you do, just remember, don't buy MSI video cards 
Would a 1070 be in your budget? It's worth it price/performance wise.
There's some on amazon selling for around $380 just around 100 dollars more and it's a significant boost. I got the ftw edition but sc is great too.

Just something to note though. Coil whine is a somewhat frequent complaint, but it's mostly down to luck. Mine has next to none.

For anyone thinking about upgrading, keep an eye on the /r/buildapcsales subreddit, which exists solely to share sales on PC components and other hardware such as mice, keyboards, and monitors. Do your research before pulling the trigger, though.

For example, on the first page of the subreddit is this R9 Fury Nitro for $259, or $239 after a mail-in rebate, which puts it in the same price range as most 1060s currently on Amazon US. The Fury is a faster card, but it also draws considerably more power (~270w vs the 120ish of the 1060), so you would need to check to make sure your power supply can handle it.
