Not trying to sound dramatic, but I really feel like it's getting outta hand. If Sara isn't a decent looking woman, then people need to start telling me just what the hell is, because I would date the shit outta this girl. The reason why I'm getting a tad bit offended by all this though, is because I'm looking at people pick apart little things like "Her nose is too big!" and "Her mouth has weird proportions, and her eyes look derpy." I mean jesus christ if people ever wonder why women obsess over their looks in our society, then here ya go. I'm not here to argue whether or not she looks amazing, but she absolutely doesn't look bad in the true sense of the word, so I don't know why people always gotta exaggerate. Furthermore it's funny that these same people complaining conveniently ignore the fact you can customize the look of your character. Something that's existed in Mass Effect since....um...the first game. Almost 10 years ago. Far as I'm concerned the Sara = Ugly thing is just a shitty meme at this point that people are just hoping on. Some people will whine about anything. Take note that most of the people who cry a river over Sara are also the ones who did the same when Bioware revealed PeeBee.

But there are women who may read these complaints about Sara and Cora who might think, "If this is what they think about the look of a pixel woman, what do they say about real women and how they look?" The line between game and reality can become blurred when insults of ugly and man jaw seem to be casually thrown about. Then you add the photoshopped versions of these characters others create to 'fix' their appearance and it's disheartening as a woman to see that. "That is what a woman should look like" Really? I don't care if someone doesn't like Sara's default look, that's cool, you (general not specific) don't have to. But vehemently slandering her appearance is a reflection on how women in real life are treated for their appearance. Then they need to grow a thinker skin and learn to not be a special snowflake. Just as i leaned that girls lusting over hot studs on bioware forums do not represent how males should or should not look like. People that can't distinguish reality from fiction should not be on the internet.

Let them complain. I love the way she looks right now, and I'll definitely play with her default looks... Don't see any reason to customize her at all Yep I agree. I like the default Sara and will most likely play as her (as well as default Scott). In fact she looks kind of similar to my custom femShep, just slightly different features.

All face-scanned preset models, you mean? If you don't get what I'm talking about - Sheploo had been created by devtools, if you ever try to recreate him in ME CC, you risk dying of age before succeeding. And there's a reason why default ME3 femShep's hair has heavy clipping issues with the CC headmorph too - it had never been designed for anything other than her own hand-crafted face.
Default Ryders are scan-based preset models hand-tweaked by the artists. They are supposed to be better at things like proportions, facial animations, clipping etc - because that's something QA can test. They might mislook a glitch one gets by setting complexion to X with nosebridge Y and eyes Z, but those 'canon' models should work flawlessly...in theory. What they've done to Sara in her early 'dead face' scenes and charkit is literally unforgivable. We can only hope that most scenes have it more like her inventory screen. And custom faces are having even higher risks when it comes to animation glitches, awkward face effects etc.

There's often a variation in the quality of various game features. Usually down to choice, engine type and gaming priorities.
I spend time occasionally posting as the BSN YouTube account and some of the shit people come out with is eye-watering. Stuff that can only be credibly shared by an anonymous poster.
Dumb and originality rarely go hand in hand, so calling out Sara/Cora/Cassandra are 'ugly' are easy claims to taunt fitting in with a 'BioWare are all SJWs' narrative.
It's perfectly possible to make even more 'pretty' characters in other engines if the face didn't have to be fully customisable but that's not the case here.
Is it offensive? No, it says more about the poster than the character.
If the story is terrific we won't care about this. If it's not, the protagonist's default face will be a lesser matter.

I think she looks fine in the stills. Not the usual porn star look many developers seem to think is the female ideal. It's when she she moves her face that she looks odd and that's an animation problem. Peebee looks great (apart from the eyebrows, obvs).

It's much easier to make good looking aliens because we don't have reference sources. We see real humans everyday. Disney spent squillions recreating Peter Cushing and even that is not 'perfect', partly because know it isn't.

Who cares what ugly women think? There are plenty of ugly men who are mocked as well, but they just deal with it and move on. I'd say ugly women have it far easier because they will usually end up with a loving partner and family anyway and they're not automatically assumed to be pedophiles like ugly men are. Maybe media should stop lying to women and should instead tell them that being ugly isn't the end of the world. Plenty of ugly people live fulfilling lives.
In other words, there's nothing wrong with being ugly but there's nothing wrong with me wanting hot women in a video game that I play for entertainment. If someone takes issue with that or other complaints then the issue lies with them and their own insecurity.

You might be right, but that still doesn't make the human characters look any better. There's a certain uncanny valley feeling with the human and human-looking characters of ME:A IMO. Yep the uncanny valley is a thing. BioWare are not the best, nor are they the worst, in my view.

Something that's existed in Mass Effect since....um...the first game. Almost 10 years ago. Far as I'm concerned the Sara = Ugly thing is just a shitty meme at this point that people are just hoping on. I never liked Sheploo. I don't even know how Default Fem-Shep looks. I made my owns. I seriously don't get this whining. Either we are plagued by the worst generation of man-children I've ever known to exist, or the most helpless. Either way they ought to be shamed of themselves. One thing I blame is the over-sexualisation of media, including games. Some men are so used to it they might not even understand what is normal and what is not, and what is entitled, childish whining and what is not. They seriously are so used to see women as objects they just can't get out of that zone because they don't even understand it is a zone. My God how are they gonna survive when they understand that they can't order a perfect wife/gf from a catalogue and the thing that looks them from the mirror, well, it actually isn't Adonis and many women don't find it much attractive.

Women obsessing over looks in large an evolutionary trait to attract a mate lol OK (sorry flyingovertrout to drag you in, could not find original post), science nerd coming in with the science here to argue the opposite. Real Zoologists and biologists, feel free to correct my neophyte attempt to discern truth from semi - science. At some point in the human evolutionary period, probably during the transition to bipedalism, humans took up monogamy. Groups of apes started breaking off from one another, namely females who became more aggressive and defensive over their territories. Scientists think this was because at this point the idea of 'alpha' male in the group was starting to become infeasible. The transition from a male ape to another male ape would involve the next male ape killing all existing young and then killing unborn young at the point in which they were born, in order to ensure that it was theirs. Thus, monogamy was more logical because it would prevent infanticide. This gave weaker males the opportunity to mate with females - as long as they brought them food in order to 'attract' them. Females appealed to males for food and instinctual breeding, and males appealed to females for instinctual breeding. It is a natural balance - not so more than the other. If you look at the psychology of the modern man and woman, one would realize that both try to attract one another almost equally. It has been found that societal expectations may have skewed this one way or another, but this is solely based upon society and culture and can vary from region to region. Therefore, it is difficult to state that your statement is accurate because it is not, at least, biologically defined as an 'obsession'. Something to be conscientious about, yes, an unhealthy obsession skewed one way, no. In regards to the topic, I do think it's been blown out of proportion, but again, it's the internet. People will complain because the sky is blue, and, the anonymity of the internet also makes people more brave. I've been bullied on the Internet (not fun), and I doubt that those people would ever say it to my face.

I personally have no issues with Sara's current look. But I might tweak a few things in the CC, provided its possible.
