@ Cyonan: Case A strikes me as incoherent; if you are positively opposed to attractiveness, why start with attractive? It can still work if the staff really has incoherent goals, though. I totally can imagine situation where people responsible for faces make proud presentation of their work but senior managers like "Lolwhat? We can't have that in our product!" May be they do. The question is: Why?

Why do they value characterization over attractiveness, you mean? I don't think there's an answer that will be very satisfying. It sounded like they think that characterization is the point; conveying the character that the writer wrote is the job.
And attractiveness... well, why is anyone not very interested in something that he isn't very interested in? I don't have any reason for not being interested in The Voice. I'm just not.

They are not mutually exclusive things and I can't see how attractiveness managed to stand on the way of characterization, forcing creators to value one over another without plot reason. Elsariel made great point IMO. And this is AAA-title so mass appeal is a big deal here. You guys need to play Horizon Zero Dawn, such acclaimed game is shitty animation fest, but hey - Biowaerrr should learn from Naughty Dog durrr!! Hey, I addressed that!
