First: Hi Dutch! Second: I think it should be fairly diverse. From what I've seen, counting the NPCs ( not player or squadmates) I spotted at least six people with darker skin. And about five maybe six people with lighter skin tones. I gathered some screengrabs I took off of YouTube, of everyone I could find with the exception of Kallo Jath's blonde female co-pilot because I couldn't find her. But if they start making test tube babies, I hope that make every ethnicity look the same. A totally new ethnicity that looks like Sectoids from XCOM, that way we Star-Bellied Sneetches can stop hating each other, and start worrying about the aliens that want us to surrender or burn! EDIT: Also, Reyes is a Hispanic name and Jien sounds Asian. From what is shown, there is a sense of small Hispanic dominance among humans. But we only seen very handful of unmasked and named humans so far, however. But in general, yeah, no white European dominance clearly.

After generations of interracial mixing and genetic engineering, don't you think humans would have changed as a species?

Didn't you hear? Every human in Andromeda, no matter the skin color, is a Slav. Only because they found out that slavs are more survivable due to presenting a smaller profile in a firefight.

This depends on the rate of interracial marriage among the general Earth population. I can't see how there's going to be a lot of opportunity for interracial marriage in, for instance, China and India anytime soon.
The main difference by 2185 will probably be a lot fewer very white people.

Clearly the White-Nationalist movement gainend a lot of ground in the Mass Effect storyline. Either that or European peoples turned succesfully towards cloning.
Actually that be a great storyline for a potentional spin-off, the inner struggles of humanity not involving Cerberus.

I've gotten numbed to this sort of talk after having spent so much time on the internet in the last couple of years... or just in the world I'm sure considering it's supposed to be representative of a future almost 200 years from now, that the group of humans on average in such an establishment as Ai is going to be pretty diverse. Not just diverse american guys but also asian attendees and european as well as middle-eastern people. That's the wonderful thing about a contemporary sci-fi setting that depicts a far future. You can really play around with things like this without being forced by certain lore-rules unless you've set those up of course. I honestly had a problem with how liberally DA:I depicted sexuality and race when so much of DA:O and DA2 focused on the tension and oppression of especially Dragon Age's version of diversity which is elves vs humans vs mages vs templars and stuff. I'm not asking for those characters to throw stones at people who don't have white skin, but the whole "Hi I'm transsexual, I'm with the Qun, and you have to refer to me with a male pronoun!" and "My father didn't want a gay boy so I was forced into marriage because Tevinter is evil!" was pretty darn preachy for a series that used to be more in-line with its own lore. I don't doubt Tevinter is evil, but to highlight homosexuality and make it sound like the cliche "My father won't recognize me because I came out as gay" was a bit too suburbian and not-Dragon-Agey to be Dragon Age IMO. Mass Effect has always felt more like "real life" in depiction if you get what I mean. I think I would be more accepting of it here, especially because "Daddy Issues(TM)" is such a trope.

I agree all around. I think DA's course is a direct reflection of its writers' personal stories, in some cases. At times, this colored otherwise stellar writing more than it should have. Mass Effect, on the other hand, hasn't had quite as impressive an over-arching plot or as deep of lore; yet it's been more consistently believable and true to life in the ways you describe. I love both settings, but I'd definitely chose ME's more consistent, believable approach every time.

Mass Effect is influenced by how its lore is split up where humans are basically representative of everything humanity represents IRL right now. Dragon Age isn't quite that direct a parallel. There's definitely a place to discuss race, gender LGBTQ in Dragon Age, I just think it was ball-less in DA:I when realistically I imagine such an issue as a Transgendered warrior in a pack of Qun might've been met with a lot more suspicion, not necessarily by his Qun friends but by the outside world, considering the culture and norm that is so often depicted in DA:O and DA2 which is that of excessive prejudice and under-educatedness that is parallel to RL HISTORY, (I think we're talking BC here) but not RL 2014 (when DA:I came out). That's why people complained DA:I turned Dragon Age into a high-fantasy, the "it can be anything it wants to be"-ness cheapened it in believability and made its resonance with historic themes less... well... resonant.
ME:A will not have that baggage with it because it's looking ahead and it has set few if any rules up about how LGBT/gender/race in humanity is treated back home in the 22th century

I don't think this is correct. Sexuality and ethnicity always were nonissues in Thedas, by design. DA:I confronted you with that fact, but that isn't a change.

Again, I think it's the way they did it. They threw in the mundane "my father is rejecting me because I came out as gay!" but in the context of Dragon Age and it feels like it's modern-day issues thrown into a historical context where it doesn't fit, whereas previously issues, let alone issues of sex, had been dealt with in a pretty cruel fashion such as prejudice, murder etc. in earlier Dragon Age games.
Granted, they were always liberal about the fact that you could be gay or lesbo or bisexual ever since DA:O but I felt particlarly Krem and Dorian sounded like the kind of preachy stuff you hear all over Twitter or Tumblr or any other social media, like DA was just part of the echo chamber instead of going somewhere interesting with it. I still like that they attempted to use the lore to build up the context, but for Krem I believe it actually is a direct contradiction about gender in the Qun somewhere in DA:O, and for Dorian I felt like Tevinter had become allegoric to the middle east or something. Maybe it's not as bad as I remember, but it was still underwhelming how this issue was over and done with in one dialogue that counted as his entire character arc, basically, especially because I like Dorian and it was just like "that's it...?"

Then why did you bring up RL? Thedas isn't a good fit for any particular historical era on Earth, and you knew it. As for the Qun, people often feel there was a contradiction, but that doesn't make them able to produce one.
But this is getting OT for this thread.

It became really jarring in DAI when half the population of the hinterlands were rivanis speaking in a fereldan accent. It's better that they sound like locals, isn't it? Lots of recent Rivaini immigrants are harder to reconcile with the setting than a large ethnic minority built up over decades or centuries.
