I just did the math and we can actually end up using half of the abilities available for use. Pretty happy about that. They must have seen the complaints from DA:I about the 8 ability limit so they compensated with fewer abilities and more abilities available for use.
There are a total of 24 abilities and with the ability to use 12 that gives us half. Had to count all the abilities, but there it is.

YES! It is now confirmed. The options, the options. This tweet states that the swapping happens in combat: and this tweet states that it is off the radial menu: The only thing left to confirm is the penalty. I am leaning slightly more towards the switch triggering the new abilities individual cool-down as opposed to a long-ish global cool-down. Also a big thanks to SofaJockey for all the eagle eyed work. It most definitely does appear to be a a button that switched the radial menu. Not sure how I feel about that but someone did tell me that R3 will be for shoulder swaps so it makes sense. Not a huge deal and since I was one of the people happy with 3 powers on individual cool-down this is all just icing.

You will unlock abilities the higher up you rank your Profiles. This was confirmed with a passive during the CES gameplay. Also some notables missing are Warp, Stasis, and Reave. I wouldn't be shocked if lash, smash, and and dark channel made an appearance. I also think that some abilities will be earned, secret, and loyalty rewards.

Another thing worth mentioning is the shield/barrier semi circular bar. In the gameplay videos, we see that Ryder appears to be able to use both of them (the blue and purple). I assume we'll have some control over it, and they will offer different kinds of protection.

Ok going off what 'soon'jockey said I think it will be his "A"or "B" or my "C" for an explanation of how this could be done better than going into the actual menu in inventory. A) Another control opens the favorites wheel directly ( i believe this to be the most likely. Hitting the "x" would cause the radial wheel to flip like a coin. One side is weapons/ammo the other is favorite load outs.) The d-pad turns into a selector for favorites while the Radial is open. (This is probably the most efficient possible system and least fanciest. This is the one I want it to be.) C) Using the left stick keeps it as weapons and selecting with the right stick would cause a ghost fade like transition to favorites. (this would look the coolest and have the benefit of making people go cross eyed. It is also the worst option, don't use it Bioware. I'm just a crackpot.)

I'm referring to the protection bar. I'm not sure if we'll upgrade/choose them in the power screen. Shield: Barrier: Off Topic, but why can't I mention you? I think we are talking about the same thing actually. I didn't think barrier was the same thing as shield and that is what I was curious about. So we have our standard shield and then we have a Barrier that we can upgrade just like all the other upgrades and passives.

I don't think we yet have conclusive proof that the favourites wheel can be opened with a single control. (Though if Tiberius is passing, a nod would be nice - though can understand if this is withheld to the appropriate video) What we do know is this (worst case scenario) - sorry for the large graphic, required to explain: - From the Game Awards trailer (Dec 1st) we know the weapons wheel had 2 controls: Use and Holster.
- From this week's Combat trailer, one additional option now exists: 'View Favorites'
- And the favorites wheel allows a different powers loadout to be selected.
The takeaways from this: BioWare have listened. The favorites option was not there on December 1st. Even if I have to change powers loadout by pressing: (Weapon wheel) - (X) - (Stick select loadout) - (X) - ( - (Release Weapon wheel) It's viable, and if you do it 10,000 times it will become automatic. ok, even better would be either: a) another control opens the favorites wheel directly, or D-Pad changes loadout [1-4] when the Weapons wheel is open But hey, progress people... The next vid should make it clear how this works, but if not, poke me after and I'll provide some additional clarity.

Yes, it will be interesting how this is handled. It might be profile specific but then your shielding could change when in combat. There might be a shield mod slot and the type (tech or biotic) would gain benefits from your passive. Let's say your biotic passives give you increased biotic powers. That power could transfer to your biotic shields. So you would want to pick the type of shield you are most specialized into. I know it won't be tied to the mobility option because I have seen biotic blink used with an energy (blue) shield. Hell maybe there is a yellow armor option for the combat class that functions completely different than shields like how "armor" worked in DA:I. That is just me going wildly off the rails though.

For our special ammo that we can use (like cryo ammo) we get 3 clips worth of rounds for one time we activate the cryo ammo to use. That gives us 15 clips worth of ammo per ammo type (unless we can pick up more).

I believe this too be the least likely of things I have stated as of yet. Really a food for thought comment.

I understand we are kinda getting into tin foil hat talk now, but could it work like in XCOM 2 with the way armor works there? I suppose it would have to recharge right, so it can't work exactly like that, but the idea that armor in that game shields you from explosives and stuff could be something I can see in MEA.

The special ammo is craft-able and lasts for two magazines of ammo I believe. It may be possible to craft more than 4 types of ammo as well. The limit is just for selectable ammo trhoguh the WHeel. The 4 guns will most likely be one of the 4 weapon types (submachine gun was rolled into pistol). I wouldn't expect to be able to take multiple assault rifles.
