I wasn't a big fan of DA:I but I personally felt it looked impressive. The wastes were a bit bland but outside of that the environments were all pretty well done so it wasn't something I was worried about. I will admit that these screenshots are not that impressive. They do seem to be taken from a low quality stream at a poor resolution which explains the quality to some extent, and I feel they are also deliberately chosen to look bad, but I also have to say that the OP does have a point. From what we have seen, the environments are less impressive than I was expecting, it does look like a backwards step from DAI. They have had a chance to do some really beautiful and alien worlds, it would be nice if we are forced to drive around a lot to have nice scenery.

Looks fine to me. Love the variations in all the environments, especially the purplish looking jungle we saw in the Combat Trailer. And really if we're gonna complain about "emptiness", then ME1 is the crown jewel in that department. But people forgave it for that because of the beautiful backgrounds and the actual sidequest content you found on those planets. Btw Andromeda isn't considered Open World, but if we're gonna call it that, then here's another one from 10 years ago:  |

I think the idea was to create something that felt realistic to a undeveloped planet, while still having interesting landmarks and outposts to view and find. Which is great, so far I'm impressed with that.
Now I also feel that planets shown in the gameplay combat trailer are more akin to mass effect 1 style side quests planet with a bit more to do and see. Also a huge plus!
We also have to remember the main planets, including hub worlds, homeplanets, colonies, and renemant ruins that will probably be the more developed and aesthetically pleasing for us to explore too.
So overall not deterred by this and looking forward to exploring these planets myself in March!

The pics you posted from the recent combat trailer are MOST LIKELY miscellaneous camps found around planets while exploring with the Nomad, as to not give away any quest or lore areas - which I'm sure are much more detailed. We haven't really seen any inside combat areas either.
Also I think they picked those more "blank" areas to show off the combat skills and animations better - a busier background wouldn't make them stand out as much.

![]() Empty. Yeah it's an outer space game about colonizing new planets. Did you think most of it would take place in sprawling cities? I don't like being disrespectful or an asshole to people especially strangers but come on, man. You also complained about there being no cover based shooting when the gameplay video specifically demos taking cover in various scenarios. They want this game to be next gen. They have the ability to give people more flexibly with combat and how you approach things in a more open map. If it was cover in tight spaces with convenient waist high barriers everywhere, it would be boring and unrealistic. Unrelated, Is your thumbnail of Deathstroke? It's pretty badass. Related, We will have more linear environments too you know? |
