Not sure what to think since this is nothing like past roles he's played and I'm not sure he has the acting chops to pull it off. They'll definitely have to ugly him up a bit for the role though. I'm honestly hoping the rest of the cast are talented unknowns. The last thing the series needs is to be a celebrity fap fest.

Well, decided to give The Witcher 3 another go and see if it imparts a different impression on me this time around. Got it on sale for 20 on steam with all the dlc so, regardless, not a bad deal if I still don't end up liking it. Surely a game with such praise must be good.

What made you not like it the first time out of curiosity? I'm trying to get into the game myself and struggled a bit at first. Thinking of starting over to give it a proper try. It was just a combination of things that annoyed me just enough to turn me off of the game, I think. Such as: I find the controls for the combat to be in the wrong places on the controller and there doesn't seem to be another controller layout or a way to remap the current one. (Disclaimer, following is in Xbox Controller lingo: Like I think the sword attacks should be in the RB and RT with blocking on LT. Evading should be on B, Jumping on A, Quick menu on LB, Abilities/Signs on X or Y, Sprinting on LSC, Horse on RSC, etc) As it is, I'm always clicking the wrong thing when trying to attack. I feel like I should note I'm playing it on PC with a controller and originally attempted playing the game on console. Another big thing for me originally was the lack of cool armor and inability to customization Geralt (I wanted to make my own character, but now having loved God of War and some others with set, pre-made characters, I wanted to give Geralt another try). I'm planning on just using the one armor I like all game, the starting armor. lol Unless, of course, any vets of the game can tell me where to get better armor that's similar in appearance to the default armor?? Past that, the sheer size I think turned me off a bit as I'm a completionist and there's just so many side things to do and lots of horse riding to get there (and I'm not the biggest fan of having to ride all over the place all the time to get to the next point in a quest, looking at you Hinterlands!). It wasn't the story or anything like that. I quite liked the idea of the Wild Hunt chasing him/ciri down and them being mystical ice ghost things lol. And the witchers themselves are a cool idea on monster hunters. Mutated to have improved reflexes, sight, and abilities.

The combat is not the best system, despite being pretty stylish and smooth in terms of animation. I read an article that says it's much better to just play on the easiest difficulty because of how punishing the combat is (he argues it helps to cement Geralt as a badass. Large monsters are still a challenge, but smaller enemies you'll breeze through.) Hidden in the world are stuff called Witcher Gear, which you have to find a diagram and then get crafted. They are indicated with a green background in the menus, and are arguably the more powerful equipment in the game. Definitely research where to get those. I can't really help you with the size of the map. Best advice I can give is to just do stuff as they come up and maybe after the story's done explore the rest. There is a fast travel system, but it's very stupid as you have to actually be at one of those street crossing signs physically and then you can fast travel.

In terms of early level armor thankfully they attempted to address this with some free armor DLC. The Termerian Armor being my fav of the bunch. The Cidarian Cavalry Armor from the Vanilla version of the game also grew on me.

I'm actually playing on the second to hardest difficulty and I haven't had many problems yet aside from the controller layout. I just killed the griffin last night without dying once. And have only died a couple times in combat... of which were bs like accidentally falling off a cliff whilst trying to hit someone lol I'll definitely have to look up the witcher gear though and hope it looks like the stuff you start the game with.

Looked them up... the witcher school gears definitely look better than most of the lame armor in the game, so I'll be hunting those down.

It has one of the lowest level requirements to wear and it looks cool enough from tier 2 ownards. I would suggest wolf school armor for late game. There is also the viper armor in the hearts of stone dlc (wich is a full black version of geralt starting armor). Thought viper armor requires a whooping level 40 to be worn.

For non witcher armor I always loved the Nilfgaardian armor they added in but I'm also someone who loves black. As for what I feel is the best looking Witcher armor? I would have to go with the school of the bear, followed closely by viper.

Wolf Armor is the best looking of the Witcher gears, imo, but you don't get the all the schematics until pretty late in the game. Until then, I used Cat or Griffin sets, and kept switching them out whenever I met the next level requirement.
This is Grandmaster Wolf armor, which is available in Blood & Wine dlc (and costs a pretty penny to craft as well!)
Edit: One word of advice: the upgraded Witcher armor sets require the previous version as one of the ingredients in the next level, so don't sell or deconstruct your lower level set armors since you will need them later on! I also found that storing them in my chest didn't work for me either, so I pretty much lugged them around everywhere until I upgraded them.

Wolf Armor is also the "cheapest" in terms of crafting requirements. Also, Grandmaster Wolf Armor does not require previous versions. I like all the Witcher armor at Mastercrafted or Grandmaster level. Griffin is probably my least favourite, but with armor dyes I found you could really make Griffin fit the overall colour palette of Toussaint, and I ended up mainly using Griffin when playing Blood Wine to my surprise.

I think Viper and Bear look the best. Cat isn't terrible. Not a big fan of the others really. I made it into velen last night and diddled around doing random quests on the way to find the witch and we're about to go into the meeting spot some elf gave her. I feel like it takes a while to level up and this is the low levels! lol

I'm holding out hope since the showrunner explicitly stated she wouldn't shoehorn modern political trends into the show, and she cares enough about the lore that Geralt won't even have a beard.

Same here. I hope they dont go down that route. They can put as much zerichanians there for diversity, and not mess around the world, definitely not Ciri. Because changing her would mean changing her heritage. And since the book if I remember correctly, said that she looks like Geralt, she can pass as her daughter, then Geralt will be black too. At least she found roach ☺ I wonder how many roaches they will use.

So I only recently started playing Witcher 3 after it sitting on my shelf for like 2 years or something. I think it might honestly be the most overrated game in a long time. Like starting from the fact how wacky the female characters in this game are to pointing out that the minor NPC's all have like the same 4-5 faces and almost every dude is voiced by Blackwall's VA. I've also heard million times how awesome this games sidequests are... eh what? I mean yeah there's been a few good ones but there's also a lot of repeating monster hunting and what not. Maybe if the NPC's were better written... Part of what makes this game kind of unappealing to me is how no one seems to have anything positive say and everyone you meet are miserable sobs.
Not saying Witcher 3 isn't a good game, just that it's highly overrated. "Juvenile fantasy", like Jacob might say.

Don't know who this one is. He doesn't look much like Geralt like at all imo, but then again it's not like you can scavenge the world searching for the perfect match either, there's a big catch of being an actual actor. Is it truly gonna be a 8 episode series? I fucking hate mini series more often than not. He's the guy who has been playing Superman lately. Also in Mission Impossible: Fallout, amongst other movies and cable TV shows.

Currently reading The Last Wish and, I admit, I am somewhat disappointed the story isn't 1.) about Geralt first meeting Yenn (though, granted, that tale may turn up further on) and 2.) not a single story line but multiple tales he appears to be telling to the Melitele priestess, for some reason.
Just finished "A Question of Price," when Pavetta was "awarded" to Duny and I'm wondering, did her awesome display of power actually come from Ciri?

May or may not be legit: Netflix wants a black CiriOH HELL NO!!! Omg, SJW strike again and kill the series before it's even filmed. I cannot believe how bizarre things have become. If these dumbfuck network idiots go through with this, I will not watch a second of this nonsense so I don't get added to the ratings. Gotta love total ignorance and disrespect for the source material. So is all of Nilfgaard going to be a black country now?! Because surely they know who Ciri's father is? I already don't like ditching an authentic Slavic look with pretty boy Cavill and presumably other non Polish actors. But this is a product for the American market. So I can tolerate that. But leave minority politics out of it! Ciri has gray/white hair similar to Geralt. This is iconic. This is important. If Netflix wants to score points with the SJW tyranny we're all living in now, make up your own story about a black lesbian kickass heroine and her transgender sidekick but don't pervert an amazing book series. Disgusting.

Disgusting. Wow. Someone's popped a blood vessel.
