I think I haven't seen a single movie/show lately that wasn't about amazing extremely capable women, many of them black (because that is the only ethnic minority that matters to Hollywood right now) and/or lesbian... and awful stupid men, of course.
It's literally everywhere.

Just finished A Handmaid's Tale the other day, a MUCH hyped show. And while the visuals were the most beautiful I've ever seen, absolutely stunning, and it's not a bad series at all, there's hardly any decent guys to be found (except in Canada because Canada is the SJW haven in real life too). Or rather, they're just nameless hanging corpses. Very one-sided depiction that falls perfectly into the female victimhood narrative. I was equally horrified by all the men that just get executed which to me is worse but that doesn't concern the narrative at all.
The worst moment was when in a flashback the black lesbian best friend out of nowhere starts ranting at the husband:
"You're so fucking patronizing, 'My wife?' She doesn't belong to you. She isn't your property and she doesn't need you to take care of her."
That was Tumblr level cringe-worthy that completely broke with the rest of the subtle mostly silent narrative. But apparently it needed to be said! Because taking care of people is a bad thing nowadays, lol. Then said horrible husband takes a bullet for trying to flee with his family. How evil of him!
On the other hand, this totalitarian regime was the idea of a woman!!! And THAT is the most realistic thing about the series imo. That part is brilliant. No idea if that was in the novel, I haven't read it. But a friend did and from what he told me, the adaptation seems quite a bit different (he won't watch the series because his reasoning was that if Tumblr loves it it's gotta be man-hating SJW bullshit and he's not entirely wrong).

While from an adaptation standpoint having a black Ciri would be wrong, I honestly wouldn't have a problem with it as long as Ciri herself is still a good character. If they try and do something involving her skin color and not her ability as a sorceress/witcher, then we have a problem.

I won't be watching the Witcher show.

Wouldn't be surprised if they double down and stomp their feet saying they will make Ciri non-white to stick it to the "racists".

I hear Marvel comics tried that strategy. Lucky they have all the MCU money to help keep themselves alive.

Ciri simply can't be "BAME" because of her biological parents and Elder Blood.


Plot twist: the casting is actually for False Ciri/Becca.

I'm not sure where the report of Ciri nearly being black really came from. It feels like people violently reacted to some online info without properly checking if it was reliable or not.

BTW, I wonder if part of Cavill's parting ways with Warner Bros is partly because of his work on the Witcher? Haven't gotten an answer to that yet.

No one has an answer to that yet, but I'd just point out that it is not confirmed Cavill is leaving DC movies.

It may be true - in fact, it wouldn't be surprising - but it hasn't been confirmed (unless WB have done so in the hour - give or take - since I last checked up on that).

Now, everyone here knows my stance on the Witcher.

I hate it. Passionately.

But this is just stupid.

Staying true to a character should be more important than making something more in line with "new" thinking.
